Actually for both of you this is a brass chorale written by Wayne Downey called F-Tuning and it was written for the 13 Time DCI World Champion Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps from Concord, California
Yeah, it's also funny how we're 20x louder than the GT Marching Tampons.
And any band that plays this WARM UP (hundreds of bands and several drum corps use this to warm up) as a stands tune is uh... what's the word... retarded? What's new for 2009? Lip slur exercises for kick-offs?
The trombones sing something, but I haven't ever really been able to figure out what it is. We're supposed to just sing "La" or "Ah", but they've never been good at following directions. (:
Hahahaha yeah I finally remembered to ask Mitch what it was. Not gonna lie, I thought it was funny. To be honest, when you can't tell what y'all are saying, it actually sounds kind of pretty.
They do sometimes, they have shyed away from it because GA Tech and other schools will do it on 3rd downs. They have another song they do but I cant remember the name of it on 3rd or 4th downs.
videos like this really make me miss athens on football saturdays. i wonder how many cigarettes i've smoked on that stairway at the tate center where the cameraman is standing. i wonder how many times i've tried to catch a peek at a game in progress through the small spaces in the white boards they used to put up, blocking the view from the bridge overlooking the stadium...good times.
Yes, it is commonly known as the Bb or "power chord" or in some instances (depending on the college/university) it is referred to as a #, i.e. #7. Oh and if you do it and people do not clap...its because either you aren't doing it loud enough or they just don't realize that you are doing it (like you do all other things) for their enjoyment. Then again, my college band had 350+ musicians so sound definitely wasn't an issue and we had great fans.
actually, the Blue devils play F tuning. Which is also Bb tuning. this is similar, but we have an additional chord built off of the D in the tubas that isn't in their chord progression.
chill bumps every time i hear it! Go Dawgs!

jonmc3408 2 years ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Wow they sing louder than they play. That's pathetic. I'd expect more sound out of a band that size....

Is it basically called Bb warmup?
bronxbomber918 3 years ago 2
With a twist...
Outlining the I - iii 6/4 - IV- V - I
Or for you jazz people out there
Bb - D/A - Eb - F - Bb
BiggestofMikes 2 years ago
Do you mean defense or offense. They play different things during different situations.
aceofspades1017 3 years ago
Doesn't the band play 3 notes from their warmup to pump up the D and the crowd on 3rd downs at home?
bronxbomber918 3 years ago

was that Bb tuning? we do that before a game too sometimes, but people never applaud when we do it. :(

the more popular term for this warm-up is the "Blue Devils" warmup, made popular of course by the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps
silversax22 4 years ago

This is NOT F-Tuning. It is similar but different...thankfully. I would gag if I had to listen to that band play BD's warmup note for note.
