  • got this on original 12 orbital play on vineall sorry obout spellin wot a tune

  • timeless timeless timeless, i saw this live on pete tong bbc essestial session i still have the tape of the original recording.... pure brilliance.

  • Seeing this song live was worth the permanent hearing damage :)

  • this choon is wicked! and it was recorded for less than £1 on paul and phil's dad's tape deck!

  • quite possibly the song that defined the era in my book. One of the first songs i heard at Konspiracy in Manchester which then led me on to many years of doing the thing in Manchester, Stoke and Blackpool (they were just the legal ones!)

  • Fantastic timeless classic music. I am glad I grew up near Manchester and saw in person the greatest era in british dance music so far in the hacienda club and all that came from there.

  • does anyone know this song.. i forgot the title :( please help /watch?v=do32_kNb2LQ

  • Oh how I miss the nineties club scene. Before everything became about dance mixes to top 40 and hiphop shit.

  • I heard the "remake" of this by Shapeshifters and thought I had heard it before, but just chalked it up to a "damn good tune". Now I see I DID hear it before. "1989"?!?! Wow!!! Still timeless! Ever timeless!

  • spoonfork.

  • Shit how can all this be so far in the past ? seems like i did first eccie last year - this was 20 yrs ago for f***s sake - who ever thought the Hartnol's would one day be dinosaurs ??

  • @bevanmcg hhahahahhahahahahahahahahah love it

  • Great tune,

  • genius tune, hartnell bros rock x

  • Generation and age has nothing on this timeless tune. I just wish I was around when raving and the golden age of Techno was about. Never hurts to be the black sheep of your generation when it comes to classics.

  • @Helaw0lf

Just turned 45. The "golden age of techno" is wherever you and your friends find good music, good times and share a love of beats that last till dawn. You've missed nothing; every golden time lays just a weekend away.

  • @cypherks That perfectly sums up my attitude to it all, being 17 I missed the boat but I'm still having my golden age now, with my mates, my music and my weekends. Roll on seeing them in April!

  • my great taste in music brought me here

  • ive took 70 magic mushrooms and listened to this all i can say is mind blowing

  • I've got so many happy memories of hearing this rolling over festival crowds, while everyone goes nuts.

  • i cant understand how kids my age can listen to justin bieber or black eyed peas or something even worse, when they have these electronic classics here on youtube

  • @caby2708 I feel you!! Stinks being the minority who appreciate good music but keep spreading the word.

  • My favourite dance song of the 80's.

  • can't believe I forgot this song

  • 89 what a great year ... to be born.

  • This sublime slice of techno, along with KLF and The Orb, ushered in the 1990s. Beautiful!

  • Wow. People actually "disliked" the song?

  • userRED13 what are talking about. this was an 89 underground anthem. you obviously wernt a raver.

  • Absolutely BANGIN BRILLIANT !!! Feel good to the max tunage !!

  • Awesome jaw droppingley good...lol

  • classic tune

  • classic choon,!

  • FECKING TUNEAROONIE.

biggest insperation to my youth and even now at 37 with a family

and settled down i will continue to play there music.

  • Can't believe I'm 39.

  • Live - 'Welcome Party', NYE 1991/92, Sydney Australia

  • This was one of THE tunes of the Second Summer of Love. I was at many of the original M25 Orbital Parties and this absolutely rocked it every time !!

  • I remember buying this version when it was released. This track is as good as it gets. One of the greatest dance anthems of all time.

  • It makes me weep with joy to see that soı many of you young 'uns love this song as much as I do. Anyone who says that electronic music has no soul has clearly never found themselves on a dance floor at 04:00 in the morning listening to this with 2000 other people.

  • think YT take 15ish mins now?

shall we put up the whole thing?

    ;)

  • Ahhhhh, such a perfectly balanced tune.

  • I only know of this awesome band by my dad having their 2002 cd Work. Without hearing that today I would not be able to hear this awesome song.

  • Never gets old, just as fresh now as when I first heard it which is over 20 years ago!

  • Call it Bobs your Uncle for all I care pal, you must confusing me with someone who gives a shit.!

  • amazing

  • Hacienda. Nude. Fridays. 1989. Small podium upon approach to the dancefloor. White Caps. MASSIVE!!!!!!

  • GREAT STUFF !!!!!

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT !!!!

  • So simple, yet so beautiful.

  • If this track needs a category, it should be under the genre of Beautiful, pure and simple. If I live till I'm 99 I will never forget the pure joy of listening to this tune blisteringly loud, with like minded, chemically challenged youths and all was well in the world. LOve it

  • Awww 2 di Sooooom Choooooooon!

  • Just such a brilliant tune. Love it. Always.

  • Amazing track!!!

  • Absolute classic! Hacienda revisited!

  • I have got to try tripping with this song, it's fecking awsome!! I remember this as a teenager in the 90's and never remembered it being so good!

  • @stuchka I was a teenager when I heard this early last decade. Brings tears to me every time I hear it, also got me into dancing.

  • i love it..reminds me so much of our old club..countless saturdays spent in bliss.HAPPY DAYS

  • Comment removed

  • wow, back in the day i remember a mushroom tri with song...gd stuff

  • I tried in absolute vain for years to get even the standard version of this track. Thankfully a few years ago, a Sunday paper gave away a free CD, highlighting some dance tracks to the early 90's. Thank heaven the 7" was on it. It brought back happy memories of that girl dancer's cute arse on "Top Of The Pops", when I first heard the record again. Thanks for the 12" upload.....aceeeeeeed!!!!

  • This track still gives me tingly rushes, and I'm nearly 40 and haven't done E for years!!

  • @iloveesr Cool!!!

  • Thirty five next month wish was thirteen going on 14 where did not have to worry about anything where are those days, this sound tune brings it all back.

  • TunE!!! BarE tunagE... TakEs mE back to thE days of mdma drEams...

Try Quartz MEltdown aswEl, thats anothEr that bElongs sidE by sidE with this..

  • The kids in the nineties had this, and the kids now have the Black Eyed Peas...doesn't it make you sick :S Just wish I had been born 15 years or so earlier :P

    *Hits the play button AGAIN*

  • @Sascopa dude i wholeheartedly agree to this!

    its a shame really.

  • @Sascopa Are you kidding me? This wasn't on mainstream radio in the 90's. There was equally bad pop music in the 90's, and equally good underground sounds still kicking around now. Try looking around, you'd be surprised.

  • @UserRED13 Sorry, but I remember this being played on t'wireless when I was a kiddie :) Ok, amongst some other awful shit, but still, it did get played. I just meant that, in '92, spotty 15yr olds from BIrmingham were raving it up to this, and now, the equivalent 15yr olds think LMFAO are a pair of fucking geniuses. Now, like you say, good music is "underground".... I wouldn't class this as the "underground" of it's day, at all. Standards seem to have changed :P

  • @Sascopa The pop charts are more purely crud than they used to be, but that's probably because a lot of mp3 downloads don't get counted, particularly from small labels, etc, that don't go via iTunes or whatever. But maybe that's not it. I mean, people aren't as nostalgic as they used to be, are they?

  • @Sascopa Is clearly oblivious to what's going on with the whole house/uk funky/garage/dubstep scene right now. It's arguably the most exciting thing to happen to dance music for a good 20 years.

  • @allanispro Um....what makes you think that?? Wrong assumption I'm afraid :)

  • @Sascopa So if what im saying isn't the case, why are you citing the Black Eyed Peas as artists who represent electronic music today?

  • @allanispro I'm not :) I'm citing them as artists who are popular today among 15-18 (ish) yr olds. And contrasting them to Orbital. Admittedly, there are kids now who do think that BEP are the cream of the electronic crop :/ I'm fully aware of how much good underground music is around now, and totally agree with you that it's the best it's been in too long; but it's just that: Underground. Which I think is a pity, is all.

  • @Sascopa I understand now! But whilst the 80's/90's generation had bangers like Chime, we haven't done too badly ourselves! Night by Benga and Coki is just as popular and is unreal! It might be mostly underground, but the odd track that breaks out is worth withstanding all the misguided retards listening to BEP!

Conclusion: Music was insane back then, and so long as you look in the right places, it's till insane now!

    keep it real.

  • @Sascopa absolutely sickening dear sir.

  • @Sascopa

Ok... but this kind of music never got played on mainstream radio. BEP is pop music... this ain't.

  • This is the track that played in the new Millennium at the Cream Pier Head gig, I spent most of the night snorting Beak of a porta loo seat, then flew out to Tenerife at 12:00 that morning, 12 hours seemed enough time to make sure that the planes hadn't fell out of the sky cuz of the y2k bug thing, obviously they didn't, and never where, but me & most other ppl in IT made a killing out of it, that's how I paid for the holiday, happy days. Unfortunately we all need to grow up sometime.

  • Nice remake....I prefer there original but this is new so its just as awsome to me.....like how they kept allot of the old base concepts for it, i did find that it is too much like all there old remixes though....I didn't make it though so whom am i to judge great song ty for uploading it!!

  • wow the 12 inch version of this song is boring...

  • I remember the first time i heard this, just over a year ago (im young), it was epic along with belfast and steel cube idoltery while driving through kerry...

  • this made me want to play streets of rage again o.0

  • Ah i remember this, my 18th birthday down to the pub at lunchtime from work for a couple of beers and listen to this tune on the jukebox, seems sooo long ago....good times ;)

  • @ DJMarvey - is it Cosmotrash by Trashman?

  • Used to loose the plot to this one back in the heady dayz of house.

  • An old school classic. The beginnings of dance music.

  • hey dj marvy. the track you're looking for is called Cosmotrash by the Trashman.

it was released in '92. the glory-year of techno !

  • A CLASSIC from back in the good old days. Whether chillin with a spliff or trippin on E, this tune took us into our own little world.

  • you know this is hot..

  • ...super ORBITAL...sound of the future...woooooow...!!!

  • What a tune. I've just played it twice from start to finish.

  • invincible! It just doesn't age!

  • 1989? It still sounds about ten years ahead of its time.

  • @Keighley1970

Ten years ahead of now you mean.

  • @mckayefc No. It would have been better phrased had I written that it sounds like something written in 1999; not 1989.

    More importantly, it is fantastic.

  • a peak in dance music history

  • Great Upload!!!! Keep up the good adds! originally found this track on (Music Choice Electronica Channel) which i have a playlist on my Channel of. Check it out sometime....You might like! also Sub back if u like to! Everyone else is welcome to also... Thx in Advance : )

  • classic!

808 kicks and snares make me loose it!

  • Saw them many times in the past,,,

But the one of the best was at the big park in Tokyo ages ago, at least 8 years ago,,, was a rave thingy at Yoyogi Park. I miss that good old days.

Aye it's a real classic. I was glad to experience it all!

  • @diiiaaannneee

don't want to split hairs but this ain't trance.

  • @kij100

in my eyes... or ears i suppose... id put it in the genre of 'oldskool'... which lead to the birth of 'hardcore' and 'garage'....

...but who am i to say???? either way its a f***ing good tune! rave on...

  • what a tune !

  • what a tune

  • been on my wants list for so long, managed to get it after 10 years, on vinyl as well, what a tune

  • if the human race ever entered a utopian state on earth this track would be heard by all. it lovingly screams love, union and respect

  • absolutely too freaking long traKKK

  • I recall a long time ago seeing Orbital and MBM at a show in San Diego. Only a few of us were dancing, but we made up for the lack of energy of the "natives".

  • DEFO THIS 1

  • Look back, move forward =)X

  • According to a documentary I saw, this song was originally much faster but the tape deck they recorded to ran a little fast and it brought the bpms down a bit..

  • absolut coming.....best track!!!

  • It's a hoax.

  • Hey spiderpikachu, i'll be sure to send ya a couple letters regarding your HOAX.

    F.U.

    Try that on for size!

  • I like it that you kept the tempo original. I was at a rave when the dj dropped this, just as I was getting warm. Always remember. Again. Nice one for the tempo.

  • Classic...

  • Twenty years ahead of its own time.

  • high quality audio??????? I wonder what's the worst......

  • @darkshiningstar3 the upload is high quality, but the track itself never was cos paul and phil hartnoll aka. orbital recorded it for less than £1 on their dad's cassette deck!

  • It's lovely - what an awesome debut - but I confess I prefer their more "badass" stuff like Petrol.

  • Sweet life weaves a thread from then to now. The then, The Manchester Academy, the now? Me at 40. LOL. Fantastic, the river flows but the depths have stillness. A dove, friends and laughter.

  • @letsbeone same here mate..lol...southport raves where RAVES....non ov the shite today comes near it.

  • Can this be truth this is 20 years old? Whole green album sound so fresh and modern!

  • @Kubihnb 21 years! my God I remember it's first release but I feel 16 again whenever I hear it though :)

  • This tune is like having something beautiful calling across to you inbetween time and space ....a beacon....like something indescribable is coming from far away to you and and yet its been right there inside you all along. You can t say what it is even though your sure you know what it is, you can t quite form the idea of it in your heart, nor your mind, nor the words to speak it in your mouth. You cannot quite grasp it though you long too; you long to be....what?! What is it?! WHAT!!!

  • lol i bet if you rolled to this song you could tell me about it.

  • @cyrustic Your comment made my day : )

  • @cyrustic

it's MDMA by the sounds of it :)

  • @cyrustic What about sweet memories from a long-ago summer morning (that possibly never happened)? - You're so right, there is something magic shining through those beats, shining through that so-simple melody. Something - untroubledly, naturally, almost laconically, and in this regard undistructibly, optimistic.

  • @cyrustic STOP READING MY MIND!! They played this in Melbourne and it wasn't just beautiful it was hypnotic. Thats the only way i could describe it. Orbital World Order!

  • @cyrustic

Assuming you`re not taking the piss.....It`s Techno. In it`s various forms, and more fashionably labelled as "electronic music" - no other music has its far reaching and undescribable power. Chime is timeless and most certainly a classic for a generation.

  • @whiteytresor NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. Techno is a form of electronic music, it is not a descriptor of all electronic music. House music is not techno. Trance is not techno. IDM is not techno. Please do not EVER call something techno when you mean electronic.

  • @perleatsworld It's just a label, why the incesent fixation with pigeon-holeing so called "musical genres" at the end of the day there are two types of music, good and bad.!

  • @MG3AEH So can I call Bob Dylan techno? I'm gonna call Bob Dylan techno.

  • @MG3AEH Too true!

  • @cyrustic Have you triedtaking Ecstacy then listening to this tune, it just might give you the answer..?

  • @cyrustic Have you tried taking Ecstacy then listening to this tune, it just might give you the answer..?

  • Does anyone think maybe Friendly fires like this tune?skeleton boy sounds just like this.

  • any musicians here? what key is this in? and what's the chord progression in numbers? thanks :)

  • this 1st note's a G.

i'm too high to work out the rest =P

  • @analfrost you mean the first high melody note? yeah. G, D, C, D, A, B, G. And the lower melody playing with it is Eb, Bb, Ab, Bb, F, G, Eb, When they play together they seem to clash slightly because the 3rds of each melody line are close to eachother. But it makes it sound even more like church bells which have more than one note.

  • Hi, Infiltrate202 I been looking for a track that contains samples of Led Zepellin - Immigrant Song and The Trashmen - Surfin Bird. I never knew the name or who played it, I remember it's from the earlie 90's. has guitars blended with a techno beat and a synth sound. I hope you could have an idea of this track I been looking for it since I listen to it. HARD TO FIND...

    :^)K Thanks.

  • @DJMarvey

Hmmm, I'm not sure which track you're after. I tried looking on Discogs but I can't find something which contains samples of both tracks... ?

  • @infiltrate202 Is Funky Breaks off wipeout fusion because I can't remember what that orbital song was from

  • @infiltrate202 I did the same a year ago the sad part is that I lost the recording of that track. so I have nothing to start from... just my recalls.

  • @DJMarvey

its rob gee under the name riot squad and the tune is called nonshlen tustokken

  • @ckdwa Thanks but that one is not the track I'm looking 4

  • @DJMarvey What's funny is Orbital sampled Surfin' Bird on a track called Tension from their The Altogether album.

  • @4evernate28 Didn't you know? The Bird Is The Word! I thought everyone knew that the bird is the word.

  • @4evernate28 I appreciate the buzz...but I still not find the right track.... It contains the long scream from immigrant song and the phrase hear what everybody say from surfin bird and they put one more phrase which I do not recognize. / /

    O/

    /I\ I

    / \

  • @DJMarvey - is it Cosmotrash by Trashman?

  • @billcoons Thanks!!!! but it is not COsmotrash... The track I mention has more rock guitar sounds, the main scream of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant song and just the prhase "Hear what everybody says" from trashmen.. which repeats several times during the track....

Actually Cosmotrash is a great tune I am also looking for realeases similar to that one, the so called techno,, industrial,, or new beat...

Look for Mr dynomite of liquid metal... 2 have a better idea...if you know more let me know

  • @DJMarvey - 'tension' by orbital uses samples from surfin bird (papa oom mow). is that the one you're thinking of ?

  • @DJMarvey - 'tension' by orbital uses samples from surfin bird (papa oom mow). is that the one you're thinking of ?

  • i think jamztaovarmy is probably just a hardcore chav, to them losers, being thick and PURPOSELY spelling shit incorrectly is cool and adds to their street cred...oh and by the way Roger Sanchez is fuckin awful!

  • jamztaovarmy must die just because of his english

i know you wanna sound cool but ...hahaha

    made me piss

  • Aye no bad. Video could do with some work though, get the finger out.

  • jamztaovarmy

  • thats ali g mate. lol

  • coooolll

  • @jamztaovarmy and in english that says???

  • i remember this tune bein feckin hugh....they even appeared on top of the pops and looked totaly out of place...back then it was all rick feckin ashley and kylie, this must have been a shock to the system

  • Never heard this long version before...excellent! :-D

  • and when i was ten i started getting really into that shit

  • Same here bruv...no E's...just loved the music! :)

  • Here's a question for all you anoraks out there. Who sampled the part at 6:27 first? Was it Joey Beltram, (Energy Flash) or Orbital, (Chime)? Not being a smart arse, genuinally would like to know.

  • Comment removed

  • I think Joey Beltram's version came out later...around 1992, I think....

  • Beautiful, happy, (hazy) day's!!!!!!!!!!! Anybody agree? Comments please.
