China has been in Africa doing the same thing for decades. They're getting the resources they need to become a mighty world power. Since they're not capitalists, they actually pay underdeveloped countries what their resources are worth instead of trying to swindle them. This will allow those poor countries to rise too meaning fewer kids will starve to death or die of diseases that have cures. More kids will go to school and our species will advance by leaps and bounds all thanks to China.

I won't deny that it brings a measure of development to those nations. But the exploitative nature of the ventures can be seen in preferential treatment given to Chinese workers in Africa, and the recent popular backlash against Chinese and Chinese companies in several countries such as Zambia

The fact that a Chinese company may be given pref treatment is irrelevant. The terms of the agreements control. Moreover, China's principle has been "no outside interference with internal affairs". That is absolute nonsense. I see little difference between Chinese corporate behavior towards Africa and western behavior. Really though, I am something of an American Sinophile - I am not trying to attack China per se. But one shouldn't blindly accept that the Chinese are doing "good" things in Africa.

Let's define the term "good". I do not assert that China is doing charity in this case. Aside from a humanitarian crisis or natural catastrophe, no nation is expected to do charity in a foreign country. Therefore, a defense of China's policies does NOT require a showing that they are doing charity. The bi-national agreements are strategic and mutually-beneficial alliances. If the native workers have a problem, they need to look to their own government and its laws.

China has been in Africa doing the same thing for decades. They're getting the resources they need to become a mighty world power. Since they're not capitalists, they actually pay underdeveloped countries what their resources are worth instead of trying to swindle them. This will allow those poor countries to rise too meaning fewer kids will starve to death or die of diseases that have cures. More kids will go to school and our species will advance by leaps and bounds all thanks to China.

If the alternative is starvation, they will die for the cruel dictator that feeds them. With Chinese investment, they can build schools and get an education, they can start businesses, get equipment to farm more productively, or work in growing AFRICAN industries, not European or American ones and keep money in AFRICA.

It's kind of funny, I seem to have more faith in your country than my own sometimes, ultimately I hope your country proves to be the stronger one as the 21st century unfolds. Perhaps the future belongs to China.
