@BGSlopy city to city flight or the first intercontinental flight (probably) but its is not as significant as the first man to fly now is it .As for scientific benefits i think sending a man to the moon has little scientific value if you can send probes there that can do the same job.After the USSR lost the race t the moon they focused on creating a series of space stations that payed much greather scientific role whit the ability sustain of long term acomudation in space and zero G experiments.
