I use wax every 3 days after my shower and my dreads took about 3 weeks to completely lock. Wax is optional but speeds up the procedure of dreadlocks... Its really about what YOU want. Stop recomending not to use wax, its stupid.

again why would you restrict the movement of the dreads? that doesn't help the locking process. if you use a proper residue free shampoo or dishsoap washing your dreads should TIGHTEN them. i would actually say that it's critically important to the locking process that you wash them correctly. not with pantyhose over them. if they can't stand up to a washing..don't wash them yet! and if you backcombed/rip&twisted/whateve­red correctly they really should be able to stand a washing fairly quickly.
