If I had to choose I'd pick the one based on a proven design not one that is over budget and trying to fill every niche the military can think of. So my choice is the Mig. And the F22, would destroy the Su35. According to simulations the Rafale vs Su35 has a ratio of 1:1, the Eurofighter would win 82% of the time, and the F22 would beat it 92% of the time.

Agreed, that was my point, pilot skill can and has made up for a seemingly inferior plane in ACTUAL combat. The problem with simulations is just that a simulation with rules and limits on the risks pilots are aloowed to take. A good case of old inferior plane making it hard on a modern jet is the F4 vs Mig17 in vietnam. I really only have a few problems with the F22 and the F35.

Cost is just plain stupid. The F22 sorry but I don't think having weapons doors on a fighter is very smart, ie if they malfunction you only have a gun, they obviously didn't learn anything from the F4 not having a gun in vietnam. The F35 they are trying to make it out to be too many things in one airframe, hard to make it work and be good at any one thing that way. Not saying the Russians or anyone else haven't done the same but they look at things differently.

For starters, it won't lock onto the Mig at 185km. Nothing about the APG-81 has been released yet, so no one can make a statement like that. Also, the Mig has a reduced RCS, so it won;t lock on at that range anyway.

How the hell does DAS help? DAS is purely situational awareness, it does not target people, so it makes no difference in WVR. I'm 99% sure that both pilots will know the other's presence at WVR distances.

Depends on the situation, The F-35 wasn't designed to dogfight, it was designed to be multi-role. If it needed to take out a target, it would use AMRAAM from long range, or AIM-9Xs with the JMHCS. JMHCS = Pilot points helmet at target, locks, and missile fires. Maneuvering is irrelevant with the F-35.

F-22 is not dead lol they will simply not make any more then 187 of them. Problem is that AIM-120D will have hard time killing TVC Flankers and TVC Fulcrums with full combat avionics and ECM suites at max distances since their mid-course guidance gets jammed by latest gen SAP-514 pods on wingtips and also they can't maneuver too well. AIM-120 can kill heavy planes, but fighters are a very hard target. TVC Fulcrum/Flanker can outturn AMRAAM like F-22 can with R-27.

@iamidiotic See my point here is that F-35 will be nowhere near as maneuverable as F-22 and hence will not be able to safely defeat a BVR missile like F-22/Su-35 because the R-27 comes with IR seeker unlike AMRAAM and if Flanker fires a salvo of 2-3 he can fire 3-4 salvos like that while F-35 is left with only two 2-round salvos or even just one (internal load only). One missile at a time doesn't guarantee a 100% kill.
