  • The stories I like least are the ones that take the longest to get Miss Marple into. This one did take quite a while. It's still a good story, but I need my Joan Hickson.

  • 01:41...that stare, just try and lie to it.

  • How can you like Joan over Geraldine? That squeeky voice, almond eyes, gleeful expression. But Joan comes very close but is too serious or somber fo my taste. I still think AG is the best!!

  • In the novel, Mrs. Harmon is Miss Marple's goddaughter. There is such a thing as a distant cousin. There is no such thing as a "distant niece". Unless Miss Marple means a great niece.

  • For me Joan Hickson was Miss Marple. No one else comes close.

  • @fannycraddock99 Agreed. I can't watch any other. There's no "Marple" in them that I can see. Joan seems like she crawls right up out of the books. The pale blue eyes, the distraction, she nails it.

  • Joan Hickson is wonderful in this delicious adaptation of Christie's famous novel...and all her stories. I suppose it's considered 'old school' for kids to call adults by Mr. and Mrs or Aunt and Uncle, but it is a fashion I'm sorry to see absent in these modern times. That first sign of respect goes a long way in how people treat others in so many ways.

  • i call all my aunts and uncles by their first names... and all my cousin's by their first names.... even my sister and brothers kids.... all everyone first names...

  • netty is such a lady in everyway...but that other woman is so silly.

  • miss marple has always been my fav. i was so happy when i knew the christie herself favoured her!!! and i was quite shocked when i knew christie didn't like poirot!!

  • @omaragatha Partly because Poirot was so popular.

  • @lollipopfop I know!!!!

  • What is a distant niece?

  • what do you mean

  • Miss Marple described the vicar's as a distant niece, and I was wondering what was meant by that.

  • She said that the vicar's wife was a distant niece...presumably she isn't the vicar's wife's aunt (denoting immediate instead of distant relation)...probably something more "distant" like a great aunt.

  • bardar27,good question. it's funny, distant niece. maybe she means she is her great niece, only explanation i can think of.

  • I do believe that everyone has distant relatives. For example I call my mother's cousin "aunt" although she is actually my great cousin. Or I also called my grandmother's brother in law second wife "aunt" although we were not related at all. Maybe that explains it.

  • @gassington Wouldn't it be your first cousin once removed?

  • Your Mothers cousin is not your "aunt" but rather your second cousin. His/her children will be your mothers second cousin and your third cousin....so on and so forth.

  • @Renaissanceman86 Its not uncommon to even call a close friend of your parents "uncle" or "aunt". I do.

  • @lollipopfop Yes, these things are not uncommon. My father calls my grans best friend Aunt. As for me, I've never called mye parents siblings aunt/uncle, only by their fist name. However, I do call my great aunts/uncles by aunt and uncle. I think the reason is that my parents called their siblings only by first name, so that is what I was thought as well. They said aunt to their aunts and that was what I picked up. To me aunt and uncle is a respectful name towards eldery, but I might be weird.

  • @Renaissanceman86 wrong. Your mothers cousin will be sort of your aunt/uncle but it is common to say cousin once removed. Her/his kids will be your second cousins.

  • then look poirot up and dont be so rude to the person who took their time to place somrthing of enjoyment for others asshole.

  • I really wish they'd turn this book/ movie into a game like they did with 'And Then There Were None' and the others. I think this would make a fantastic Miss Marple PC adventure game debut.

  • Do you mean Colonel Easterbrook's wife - yeah. Must have taken hours!

  • He must be very rich other wise I cannot account for why she married him. It wasn't for his brain. He thinks the killer replaced the gun after he was dead. LOL She is smart, must be blond out of a bottle.

  • @ez2stepon maybe she loved him!!!!!

  • I love that blond womens hair!!!

  • I love how Miss Marple said

"May I bother you even more inspector, can I have some cheese and biscuits?"

I love how Miss Marple is so peaceful.

    Great book and great movie!

  • I know what you mean. Ms Marple is very Zen. She could have been a shinto priest.

  • @lollipopfop Haha yeah. I study her. To try become like her! (not the other miss Marples. Just Joan Hickson.)

  • She is Miss Marple no other can hold a candle to her.

  • I totally agree, just like David Suchet is the ultimate Poirot.

  • me too...then that angelical look on her little face just melted my heart and caused me to choke up a bit. It makes you want to love her all the more. I love Joan Hickman.
