Looks like some of the photos had some added color to them with photoshop. Other than that those are some great cloud shots.

@razz4040 None of the photos in this slide show are edited. The reason the colors stand out so well is because the photos were taken at longer exposures (10-15 sec), so the darker areas of the photo stand out much more vividly than normal.

shelf cloud is just a formation. They typically are just regualr thunderstorms with occasional light hail. Some do become supercells but as I said, it's just the formation. I lived in Texas alot of my life

traditional arcus shelf, the most menacing storm i ever saw was a powerful arcus cloud which well, basically made me shit myself when i saw it, it looked like a giant wave, or mountain, and when it hit, actually i didn't see anything because i was 14 and went into my basement with my 10 year old sister just after it started hailing, but we were devestated by the damage to our cottage.

well shelf clouds are normally the beginning of thunderstorms...as seen later in the video....

basically theyre a wall of clouds. and like a wall itself, it'll build up and up till it becomes a storm. and the storm that normally comes out of shelf clouds are tornadoes. hope that helped!

You don't have to get your undies in a bundle. I never said supercells weren't dangerous. What I meant by saying that supercells alone don't define what is severe, is that there are other types of thunderstorms that are not as potent as supercells, that also satisfy the definition of what is severe and that supercells weren't the only type. I don't think you actually read my comment in it's entirety, because again I never said supercells weren't dangerous.

That would be a Shelf Cloud, which actually does rotate, but not in the way a mesocyclone does. It rotates horizontally with a rolling motion, which is also refered to as a roll cloud.

There is no rotation here!

Don't confuse a shelf cloud (witch not rotates) with a wall cloud (which rotates and is part of the mesocyclone in a supercell).

I think this storm is al squall line, not a supercell.
