The other issue was the Ustasha accepted Nazi laws etc as the Nazi's were the occupying power in the region. I don't believe their utimate goal was to eliminate the Serbs from Croatia due to the fact they established a Croatian Orthodox Church for Serbs to join. Why bother doing that if you want to exterminate them?

@roknikov Pre-war the Croatian communists handed over most of the weapons of the T.O. to the JNA. In Slovenia the communist party was smarter and didn't carry out the order from the JNA . Croatia organised the ZNG or "National Guard" which was poorly armed in the beginning, later this became the Croatian army. Basically Croatia started with nothing much but over time increased its fighting capability with imported arms and of course captured heavy weapons i.e tanks,artillery etc

Serbia fought four wars (started, armed and funded) and went to war with the U.S.A and 19 other Nato countries and lost every time except maybe a partial victory in Bosnia with the formation of a state within a state i.e: Rep.Srpska.

Tito executed many for this crime after the war. It's history and can't be reasonably denied. The hatred between Serbs and Croats was very prevalent in the 1960's when I was there. Random fist-fights were common on the streets of Belgrade and Zagreb. I didn't understand it at the time. Now I do.

I 've read Adolf Hitler gave that directive. So yes not tolerant of the Serbs but then you have to ask the Muslims of Bosnia how the Chetnik Serbs treated them in WW2. The Serbs murdered tens of thousands of Bosnians as well as Croats. One of the reasons many of them joined the Ustasha in WW2.

Furthermore the "wholesome" Ustasha leadership had Jewish connections specifically Ustasha leader Ante Pavelic's wife was half Jewish and Ustasha minister Col. Kvaternik also had a Jewish wife her maiden name was FRANK, daughter of Josip Frank. Jasenovac was a concentration camp but with differing levels of comfort. No arguement there.

@TennesseeOwnsMyBones Their endgoal was to have a Independant State of Croatia (NDH) in her historic borders, it didn't work out like that of course due to Mussolini's interference. The other issue was the Ustasha accepted Nazi laws etc as the Nazi's were the occupying power in the region. I don't believe their utimate goal was to eliminate the Serbs from Croatia due to the fact they established a Croatian Orthodox Church for Serbs to join. Why bother doing that if you want to exterminate them?

There was 50.000 - 70.000 victims in general (Serbs, Jews, Croats - enemies of the regime...) according to the foreign researchers. Ridiculous 1,500.000 victims was made up by some Serbian archeologist. After WW2, Jasenovac was stigmatized by Serbs and made as an example of Nazi brutality in communist Yugoslavia.
Nonetheless, it was a horrible massacre!

The Ukraine Famine was a result of Stalin's mismanagement, he wasn't that smart. The Katyn killings were not ordinarly Polish civilians, but high ranking military officers, politicians, priests, police, bankers, landlords, etc. Bleiburg was the Ustashi getting their punishment for all the people they brutally murdered.

They were going to go to war against the Serbian controlled "JNA" which had 3,000 tanks, air force, navy etc. Serbia started the war. Croatia at the begining of the war in 1991 had 0 tanks, 0 planes, 0 navy. So no real army.

moreso Croatia had its own territorial defence ( TO ) force.
The TO was equipped to repel a soviet attack until the army 'd relieve them ( part of the "Jezh" policy )
being equipped with enough arms to repel the soviets, but not enough to being able to adequately fight the Serbs sounds shady to me but, we're talking about a war on the balkans; propaganda is to be expected i guess

@roknikov Pre-war the Croatian communists handed over most of the weapons of the T.O. to the JNA. In Slovenia the communist party was smarter and didn't carry out the order from the JNA . Croatia organised the ZNG or "National Guard" which was poorly armed in the beginning, later this became the Croatian army. Basically Croatia started with nothing much but over time increased its fighting capability with imported arms and of course captured heavy weapons i.e tanks,artillery etc

And did so at an enormous human cost, by often ignoring in many cases typical common sense from bigger brains. The only Stalin wanted to maintain was his bureaucratic control over the Soviet Union. Again, would a smart man have been caught off guard on 22 June 1941 after repeated warnings? Whatever Tudjman wanted, he implemented nationalist policies which contributed to the bloodbath.

The unity of the communist party of Yugoslavia dissolved before elections were held in Slovenia and Croatia but "nationalist policies" i.e: its called democracy in most countries, certainly was a threat to the communist JNA .

@AmeriKa1050 This is not Serbian propaganda. I lived in Belgrade and have been to the location by the Sava where this all happened. Nobody denies it happened there. Tito executed many for this crime after the war. It's history and can't be reasonably denied. The hatred between Serbs and Croats was very prevalent in the 1960's when I was there. Random fist-fights were common on the streets of Belgrade and Zagreb. I didn't understand it at the time. Now I do.

Lets be clear Jasenovac camp did exist but a variety of nationalities were sent there including left wing Croats. The numbers who died there are far less than what many Serbs claim. Some Serbian archeologist inflated that number up to 1.500.000, and in that name they were making all that slaughters in Croatia only 20 years ago. We all know that. It was like a payback. Nonetheless Jasenovac was a TRAGEDY! Just as Ovcara and Bleiburg was! A crime is a crime, no matter how large scale it is.
