I'm so glad this was required viewing in government class, Coyotalia! If you want suggestions on great movies in black and white, let me know. The ones Bezz offered are also great, although Bezz, I think you maybe ought to cut this student some slack. Most black and white films do seem slow compared to their modern counterparts, and thus can bore younger viewers, unaccustomed to the pace. Some of the best films ever made were in black and white.Why does it matter anyway..other than shallow,selfish reasons.So 'Schindlers List' is a bad film 'cos it's in B&W?This film?It's a Wonderful Life?12 Angry Men?Good is good whether it be 1933 or 2011.Grow up.

The bit where the papers get picked up and the kids get harassed is one of the truly heartbreaking moments of the film. Really makes you genuinely hate the antagonists.

I usually hate Black and White movies because they tend to annoy me because they're Black and White and often boring with bad acting. However, having to watch this in my government class, I've realized that this movie is the exception--in fact it is now one of my ultimate favorite movies. So empowering and such character.
