I have epilepsy, and i was diagnosed through an EEG and now a lot of times when i feel lightheaded or dizzy i have to tell my parents and they make an appt with my neurologist.
For a long time I thought I was different from my sister. First I found out I had asthma but that didn't explain away how weak I always felt and why I would get awful headaches all the time and why I would get so dizzy I could not even sit alright. The older I got the worst I felt. I started feeling like I was missing parts of the day an was mixing stuff up started feeling like there were times I couldn't move parents didn't believe me anymore I would always tell the dr. How I felt & they would
Its anoying that i have epilepy cause most of the time wen i go to the hospital they hav to put something on My head to scam if the Epilepsy is geting cured or something
In 70% of the cases diagnosed, no known cause is found. Ep affects 50 million people worldwide, Ep is the third most common neurological disorder in the US after Alzheimer's & stroke, DOUBLE the number of people known to be affected by autism according to the Epilepsy Foundation of America. Every two minutes someone is diagnosed with ep in the US. There are over 40 different types of seizures. Not all of them involve convulsions.....
@huandelospa what he is saying is correct, when diagnosing epilepsy it is neccasary to monitor the brain structure to check that the electrical issues have not come from a physical issue such as a tumor. It doesnt so much confirm epilepsy but rather rules out another cause.
I have a MRI scan every 6 months as i have a brain tumour and had a stroke this all happened when i was 7 years old and i had an operation but the surgeon didnt get the whole tumour so i have to get a MRI scan every 6 months to see if its growing sowhen i was 11 i had to have another operation and they didnt get it again so im getting another operation soon and now i am 13 ive had an eeg and other different tests aswell.
Hey Doc : If a patient did not had a seizure from past 5 years , Does it mean she's FINE now..What care should to be taken if she wants to have a child/pregnant...??
I have had 3 EEGs and only 1 mri since being diagnosed. I had to have an eeg before this all happened. I HATE MRI's because its so loud when its on but i like the chirping (its so cool)
@bathbeads10 -- hey i've got an MRI scan tommorrow. How were you diagnosed because mt EEG scan came back normal, but people have said 9/10 it comes back normal.
Hello this video is important to me .. and I like that someone could translate it in Spanish .... I think there more people like me ... they would like to know more about this issue .. Thank
On January 29, 2010 pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline got approval from the FDA for a medicine called LamictalXR to be used for generalized tonic clonic seizures in kids 13 years of age and older. This is really good news. The medicine is also approved for partial onset seizures. The Wall Street Journal and many other news websites ran this news the first week of February 2010. Do a Google search for this news to read about how it can help your family. YouTube will not accept a URL.
To: SlobodaBosni, To answer your question... yes. I am 5'5, 140lbs, and very active in hiking, camping biking etc. I am married and have 4 kids, have a college degree, don't smoke. Looking at me, and even being around me, you may not even realize I have epilepsy and have had it for almost 20 years. I have several Petit Mal Seizures a day, and about 1 grand mal seizure every year or 18 months. But YES, it is TOTALLY possible to be healthy and have epilepsy.
@hwn702 I recognize myself in many points of your description, having a family of my own. Gave birth to girl and a boy the natural way. It took some minor security ;) details during the nights, but we managed. Since the last Grand Mal I got a new prescripted medication and the Petit Mals are totally gone by now. I am even allowed to drive again. One has to be careful though. "My" epilepsy can be a problem during the early morning hours, but only then.

Please correct your speech: Epilepsy is an "electrical disease", i.e. a sort of "neuronal disfunction" thus anatomical images as provided by MRI or CT are just useless for epilepsy diagnosis or epileptic focus localization. .
@huandelospa medical imaging in epilepsy is used to detect and to exclude other causes of convulsions. like brain tumor. it is used in the differential diagnoses to exclude other possible causes of the convulsions, and not directlly to diagnose epilepsy

So if all these wonderful methods of diagnosis show nothing does this mean no epilepsy? So what if the seizures continue? wtf then...
