  • excuse me that is the final video

  • Eventuellement in French means the same as "Ewentualnie" in Poilsh...

So in Poland people tend to use Eventualy for maybe

  • eventuellement / au cas où = maybe / possibly

finalement = in the end / eventually

  • tu parle cmben e langue ?

  • I usually use finalement to translate eventually. I'm not sure how accurate this is though.

  • Hi Leyla,

This is a bit unrelated to this particular video, but I'm curious, when you acquire interest in a new language that you've never pursued/studied before where do you start? Do you just by dialogue tapes? Or do you first study basic pronunciation and sentence structure before going to the dialogues?

  • Bon jour Leyla,

J'espere parlez de Francaise avec votre videos!

    Je besoin de Merde!

    Merci beaucoup.

    Hello Leyla,

I hope to speak French with your videos.

    I will need luck!

    Thank you very much.

  • enventually = finalement

    éventuellement = possibly

  • Hi Leyla.

Just to say that (to me) a pretty accurate translation in french would be "finalement" or anything with similar meaning such as "au final".

You are right, this one is super tricky.

    Another one :

    Actually VS Actuellement

The worst with those "faux amis" is that actually when you use them (like saying eventually while thinking it means "maybe" or "perhaps"), that can still result in a valid english sentence. But both people will understand it in a different way.

  • Yep exactly ! Faux amis = deceptive cognate (Bizarre comme mot, hein ! Well, if you saw my face when my 11th grade English teacher told me "false friends" doesn't mean sh** and taught me that word !)

  • Merci !

  • finir par is a very good translation.

    Thanx for that

  • merci... très utile...... encore.....

  • eventually is a way of saying that you'll get to it but not now or have patinece. so i'm guessing ... après un bon moment

  • hello leyla!

  • I don't care if this video is a year old; it's still helpful!!!

  • I love these bitesize tit-bits! They give me confidence whilst I am learning, and are easy to comprehend in the midst of all these grammar- tense- gender- singular/plural nightmares!

    Thanks :)

  • Ahhh, un amigo falso. I think you would say, "por fin" in Spanish. 日本語で「結局」かな?

  • its called a false cognate, sounds similiar but its different, e.g sole in english and sole in italian have completely different meaning. How many languages you speak anyway?

I speak english, spanish, basic italian(kinda crappy) and will be learning mandarin for my degree minor.

  • nice video btw it's hypothetical not hypothetic

  • Ok so for example, Je pense que Leyla peux eventuellement fait un sortie avec moi... but I think eventually she will come around if I am really careful.

  • But they sound so much alike.... It's like such a drag man!

  • How about, 'finalement' ?

  • I would say

    eventually ≈ finalement

éventuellement ≈ possibly / why not

  • same in german

  • Hm.. interesting. I usually say peut-etre anyway

  • Thank you.

Would this be considered a faux ami?

  • yup that's exactly what it is
