@toycrush I think that a lot of people who actually played Warcraft III do like Kaelthas, it's just he got thoroughly shafted in Burning Crusade as did Illidan. Aside from the addition of the new races, BC seems to have made a lot of people thoroughly displeased as far as lore and such, but then, every expansion seems to do that to some extent. That said, I adore Kaelthas.

Interesting to note on the whole "Blood Elves = Anime" argument, that Kael'thas has his version of the Shitenou (Four Heavenly Kings) in the form of his four advisors. VERY common trope in anime - you have one major bad guy (Kael in this case) and he has four lieutenants who have to be defeated by the heroes before engaging the big bad. And, just like in many japanese games/anime, he resurrects all four of them by the end.
