  • I bought a copy of this documentary. McNamara was complex character. I felt he never really let his guard down. There was a lot more he could have said, but wasn't going to. There were moments of breathtaking selfpity, "I suffered, too." He seemed like the right guy in the wrong job. Perhaps, he should have stuck with Ford.

  • How did you get a hold of this clip? Is it on the DVD?

  • @nipponese Yes. The DVD contains several scenes that were cut.

  • Shame he didn't read this earlier in his life.

  • One of McNamara's lessons was "Empathize with your enemy." I think he was pretty contrite about the things he said and did. He was aware that he was seen by some as an ogre. I don't think he expected forgiveness from anyone. And his admission about his role in WWII implies that he understood his de facto guilt as a war criminal (in WWII and Vietnam). I think he was right, war is complex. It's hard not to judge him but perhaps we should not. He was his own judge and likely suffered.

  • Why was this scene deleted? It reveals so much of the breadth of the interview subject.

  • you're missing the 2nd verse but really good

  • nice vid mate, great documentary
