I've jailbreak my ipod touch 2G, redsn0w lite works perfectly fine. It's kinda hard on windows but you get used to it. I hope they release the un-thetered one some day :) Check out the redsnow website

No. It has been jailbroken, but currently it's a "tethered" jailbreak, meaning you'd have to re-jailbreak it every time you booted your device (after turning it off). They're working on fixing that, and it will then be released.

It opens up your device from Apple's restrictions to allow for downloading from unauthorized third party apps (like app store apps, only in specific, one's apple wont allow to be on the appstore) from a third party installer, similar to the App Store. With it jailbroken, you can also theme your device and put custom wallpapers behind your apps, and even change the way the app buttons themselves look.

Hey iPoTH4CK3R, do you know much about jailbreaking? I have a question. Once you jailbreak your Touch, can you still normally buy/download apps from the normal App Store, or will it delete your Installer/Cydia?

Yes, you still have the full functionality of your device. Your app store apps and Cydia/Installer apps will coexist in peace next to one another. Only difference is the Cydia/Installer apps aren't gonna sync with your computer.
