Let me try again - when selling solutions that cost anywhere up to a $1 million or more, selling to $1 billion+ revenue companies.....in that league of selling.....texts, emails, tweets, etc don't cut it. At lower levels of selling, I'm sure a case can be made for closing a deal via text. BTW, in my position, I get most of my job offers in person with the C-Level execs. Again, a different level.

I've been in sales for over 20 years. Even with all of this social media crap and its predictions about how it will save business.......in the end its all about what you close. The decision makers out there still seek and expect the old fashioned way of conduct, manners, etc. You won't close a multi-million dollar deal via a tweet or email. Now, in 20 or so years when those old farts die out and are replaced....I'll be retired ;-)

It depends on how much you allow yourself to be mesmerized by the lure of the internet, which is essentially unlimited entertainment and information. For me personally, sure, I should spend a lot less time online. However, the internet has connected me with intelligent people I would have never met or talked to otherwise. It has allowed me access to information that I wouldn't probably have had access to otherwise, even if I read all the books in my local library. It has it's good and bad parts.

Wow i experience just the opposite here in houston. I went out the other day for a interview and since i was a hour early i hung out at the book store that was next door. I went to open the door for the guy coming in he held open the door for the girl coming out and all the people who i talked to were super nice it was everyone was saying merry christmas and complimenting each other. It was a huge breath of fresh air from the negativity i have been experiencing at home.

I have a friend, known him for about 15 years, whom I refuse to hang out with unless he leaves his cell phone at home: he just can't put the fucking thing down--ever! You see couples out on a date, not interacting with each other--except to show something on one of their phones. Cellphones are to civility what Wall Street is to the Rule of Law.

This cycle of posting videos then taking them down then coming back with anxiety and worry about posting videos or what to post is a bit obsessive compulsive. Let me try again - when selling solutions that cost anywhere up to a $1 million or more, selling to $1 billion+ revenue companies.....in that league of selling.....texts, emails, tweets, etc don't cut it. At lower levels of selling, I'm sure a case can be made for closing a deal via text. BTW, in my position, I get most of my job offers in person with the C-Level execs. Again, a different level.

I've been in sales for over 20 years. Even with all of this social media crap and its predictions about how it will save business.......in the end its all about what you close. The decision makers out there still seek and expect the old fashioned way of conduct, manners, etc. You won't close a multi-million dollar deal via a tweet or email. Now, in 20 or so years when those old farts die out and are replaced....I'll be retired ;-)

It depends on how much you allow yourself to be mesmerized by the lure of the internet, which is essentially unlimited entertainment and information. For me personally, sure, I should spend a lot less time online. However, the internet has connected me with intelligent people I would have never met or talked to otherwise. It has allowed me access to information that I wouldn't probably have had access to otherwise, even if I read all the books in my local library. It has it's good and bad parts.

Thats why I prefer Youtube over Facebook because Youtube allows me more of a chance to talk to interesting people such as yourself. Wow i experience just the opposite here in houston. I went out the other day for a interview and since i was a hour early i hung out at the book store that was next door. I went to open the door for the guy coming in he held open the door for the girl coming out and all the people who i talked to were super nice it was everyone was saying merry christmas and complimenting each other. It was a huge breath of fresh air from the negativity i have been experiencing at home.

There's a great deal of incentive for web companies to find ways of keeping the attention of all those eyeballs.
