@ann642 No, at the start of her career, she was a pure soprano. But because of " i want to sound more black" is always in her head, she make her voice sound deeper. She became a mezzo around 1988. And her highest note is C#6 (yes a very nice C#6), she can belt out to a G#5 (actually an A5 but it doesn't count because it's an exclamation), her lowest is C3. There's a video in youtube showing that. Wiki is not always right you know.

No, it was only E5 she does here. She only hit G5/G#5 in it in the studio. The other guy has a habit of inventing notes. People have to correct him, usually. He has to high from smoking too much weed and can't hear the notes right, lol.

If you even know the difference btween Soprano, Mezzo and Alto? It's the high,, medium, low. It really bgoes by Tessitura/Timbre/Tone. You might actually can tell she is a Mezzo, not a Soprano because her sound is a bit too dark but she is also going up but halfway. She is Mezzo. That's all.

She was a first soprano in this clip. You have to include head tones and everything in too account. Whitney don't always belt her highest to perserve her voice think about. She toured like crazy in her prime but a soprano like Whitney could easily belt A5 B5 and probably C6's with ease too.

Also she hits plenty of amazing high belts Radio City Hall 1993, above the usual f5 g5, especially in Didn't We Almost Have it all............. I would say, it all depends on the condition of her voice. Whitney can sing and do anything she wants if her voice is good condition!!!!!!!!!!!!
