Yes, but they are not the same. The techniques are slightly different in the ways that they are preformed. I have a brown belt in Krav Maga and a green belt in MCMAP and I constantly get yelled at for performing the moves wrong, because both disciplines are so similar. MCMAP sessions also have "core values" lessons along with them. Its a section after each training where the instructor talks about lessons of the Marine Corps. Krav Maga has been around way longer then MCMAP though.

The reason the MCMAP belts are the colors they are is because those are the colors of camouflage. It wouldn't make much sense to have a purple or orange, or in your case, rainbow, belt in the field, now would it? In the Marine Corps, we use our fancy martial belts belts for one thing: keeping our trousers up. Maybe you need to stop complaining and get back to your hard core martial arts training.

We had an MCMAP instructor tell us that if were using Martial Arts in the field, we've failed at everything else the Marine Corps has taught. Marines are taught to kill from 200m or 500m. But MCMAP is still important. And it is used in Iraq by the way, if someone is not complying, you have to put them down and zip tie them, thats where MCMAP comes into play. So it's a last resort, but it's essential. And for the record, most Iraqi insurgents couldn't hit the side of a barn with their rifles.

So I haven't been trained in Marine Corps martial arts? It's not a legitmate combat proven fighting system. You truly just don't get it. mcmap uses fighting styles such as jiujitsu, okinawan karate, judo, and krav maga. It covers moves from lethal to non-lethal and weapons such as knives and bayonets. The reason the MCMAP belts are the colors they are is because those are the colors of camouflage. It wouldn't make much sense to have a purple or orange, or in your case, rainbow, belt in the field, now would it? In the Marine Corps, we use our fancy martial belts belts for one thing: keeping our trousers up. Maybe you need to stop complaining and get back to your hard core martial arts training.

It really pisses me off how, (most) students who attend class to earn there 1st degree black belt can take 2-3 years, while in the marines there putting very few hours in, and nothing compared to students inside the "dojo" who work their ass off for years to get their black belt. while guys in the marines are getting the fucking brownbelts in a matter of months.. shit really pisses me off

it takes about 200 hours to gain a brown belt, in the MC, it takes almost 2 years to get a brown in most places, its just the point that, being known as having a brown or black, and knowing just the basic shit such as submissions and shit bayonets defense, is nothing from what people do when they train everyday in the dojo, it just doesnt fit me in my opinion,

We had an MCMAP instructor tell us that if were using Martial Arts in the field, we've failed at everything else the Marine Corps has taught. Marines are taught to kill from 200m or 500m. But MCMAP is still important. And it is used in Iraq by the way, if someone is not complying, you have to put them down and zip tie them, thats where MCMAP comes into play. So it's a last resort, but it's essential. And for the record, most Iraqi insurgents couldn't hit the side of a barn with their rifles.
