this is one of the best versions. our interpretaion is fantastic. its exactly how i would play it. i'm learning this piece right now and your interpretaion helps me to understand this piece
WELL done. One of the very very few, if not the only, "me playing..." version on youtube that is really worth something. Mistakes - who cares. Your interpretation was fantastic and it was just so well done. Almost made me cry a little. Just beautiful. How long have you been playing and how long did it take you to learn this piece?
Wow i just loved this. I think you've interpreted it beautifully... in a similar style to Vladimir Ashkenazy who is without a doubt my favourite pianist ever... so kudos to you there. And as for your comment about being 'alright' but 'could have been a bit better' - pfft. Music isn't about being perfect. And you play beautifully.
@TobiasFunkeIsMyLover Thank you! And that comment about my comment is absolutely true. When you come out of a concert, you're always wayyy overthinking about the small mistakes you made. Getting over that is tough :p
Something about this performance was electrifying. I have been playing for a while and am now a piano performance major. However - this truly reminded me of why I liked classical music. There is SO MUCH emotion in it - and that is the only thing that should matter. Your tone quality, pedalling etc: I thought it could use a bit of refinement. But who cares? The purpose of piano is to express yourself - you will get better but your passion remains incredible. Thank you.
@RobinLSL You impressed me a lot. When I suscribed to You I didnt knew that You are that good!! Thanks for posting videos on youtube and sharing Your talent.
J'aime vraiment...ta posture...la facon dont tu bouges...dont tu joues c'est parfait. j'ai rarement entendu une interprétation de chopin comme celle la
You think that I didn't invest my heart and soul in this? Well sucks to be you. I really love it (well less than the other Ballades but still) and I believe there's a lot of music in what I did.
@RobinLSL : no offense and as much as possible, I dont wanna be rude. It seems like the piano you are using is loud enough and the sustain doesn't stop when you release it... I'm hoping it's with the piano but the outcome is noisy and full of sustain pedals... Your fingers are good but keep in mind that we need our ears as well as our sense of touch... we need to adapt to the piano itself...
@dominicbalabat No offense taken. I appreciate criticism... when I understand it. Listening to this again, I can't find really find any place where there is too much sustained sound... Would you care to enlighten me?
@RobinLSL : from [0:30 - 1:10], I hear overlapping chords.. maybe it's your interpretation anyway.... [1:40-1:45]... [2:11-2:16]... too much sustain on these phrases... after 2:16, it's good and sustain is used carefully...
love your pedals on [3:58-4:30].. it would be better if you apply it on the opening the piece [0:30 - 1:10]...
It's just my opinion though... so you may or may not listen to me... I have much to say but I'll hold it for another time.
@dominicbalabat Thanks for the precisions. I see what you mean about [0:30 - 1:10] but I don't think I agree... I'll think about it later! You're right of course for 1:40-1:45, but the main reason here is that I failed the right hand and of course this had a bad effect on my feet too. I will disagree though for 2:11-2:16 because I think place really needs lots of resonating sound.
Thanks for the nitpicking, it's always interesting :p Never thought I'd look so much at this old recording.
Yessss I have to agree with your infobox statement 100%! There is no more personal music than Chopin's Ballades, and no interpretation is ever the same, and every interpretation is ever an exploration of the performer's soul. Pulling these off at a concert setting is a major challenge as well. Thanks for the vid
Are you sure this is you? Looks like a friend of mine, same hair, same way of rolling back and forth and head jerking, same sort of clothing, same long fingers, and he played this in a recital too! Because you are in silhoutte honestly it could be him! I can send you photos of him on website if you want to see the resemblance.
This is probably one of my favorite interpretations of this piece I've seen on youtube. Very close to how I play it but not the same.
Like you said though, with Chopin's ballades, it is basically up to the performer of how it should be interpreted. My ONLY concern was the old guy at the end of the video holding his left arm, please tell me you didn't give him a stroke?! haha
Wow, this is very good. You play some parts faster than I have heard (and play myself) but it is still very convincing. Your rit. is very tasteful as well. I personally would prefer the inner voice/chords in the beg. part softer. I really like how you take risks and go for the extreme instead of settling for comfortable but so-so. Amazing technique!! Are you a college student?
Buddy, this is just amazing. I haven't ready other comments, but I did read the video description. I completely agree, this is a very personal piece to interpret. As for wrong notes... something about them in most situation adds character to the emotion. I am a perfectionist, but I am not ignorant.
Agree 100% with you here... I would like so much to play that piece to see how it would go out but unfortunately I haven't reached the technical level neccessary to play such hard pieces...
I do like (and agree with you on) your interpretations on many different places in this amazing Chopin piece. What I think would make it even better is a softer sound for the soft passages, especially those with pp and soto voce. So I would suggest that you use the soft pedal for the opening theme, the second theme, and the muted chords just before the end.
Tu le joues trop bien... Je pense que c'est très mal que videos comment ça a 1000 visites et autres videos avec moins qualite ont un million... tu devrais avoir un million aussi!
I don't care if my playing feels ordinary. I'm playing this piece with my own feelings and that's the only thing which matters to me. (though to be fair, at the time I was playing this, I didn't feel "in" it as much as I wanted).
A very fine, and interesting, performance!

Sorry, I meant she plays the piece with more taste, touch, and emotional dynamic; than does Zimmeran in his overacted interpretation of the ballade.
