i learned how to do figure 8's today on a 250cc kawasaki eliminator.. it took a few minutes but the important thing is to remember to turn your head as you turn cause your body moves with the bike.. also not to get so bent out of shape about the lines, and not to look down... looks like you got it !! :)
i cant do figure 8's took me about 2 hours just to get nearly there then i gave up coz i knew i wasnt gonna get it done, try again soon...so much harder than thye look
only tricky part of the test is this figure 8, but you dont have to be perfect, i went 2 the class with 0 experience on 2 wheels and passed, thats here in florida....dunno bout other tests.
I was told to watch a video on Figure 8s, because that is what I'll be learning for my second motorcycle class. Nice video. Are you on a military base? It looks like NAS Jacksonville in the background. I used to be stationed there for about 3 years.
This is easy compare to our test ... we have to do figure 8 smaler than this. No passing whith this kind of bikes. Olways enduro bikes can pass this test and theres a snail figure that you have to pass with one hand...
try too look as far as possible to where you want to then you dont need to ghet balance it goes automatic the bike wil follow, looking down just makes it worse
Damn thats not how we had to do our figure 8's where i took my test, and we also took the test on cruisers, well lil Kawa rebels or something like that 125cc or 250cc i cant remember, we had braking and maneuvering and riding over things, braking when in a turn, balance and clutch control while going really slow as if you were in traffic barely moving, all in all it was a pretty good course to take, makes insurance cheaper, learn alot from it, and it was free!
weave in and out of cones, followed by a figure 8. long corner, followed by a high speed avoidence (30mph). walk bike in a u turn. walk bike backwards into a parking space. you need to show some basic maintenece checks, how to check your lights etc in good order. a few others too. all these needed in uk test
Hey way to go, with this video being old now how did the test go? Also this will be my first bike (I brought at 9,000 miles for 2,000 ^_^) Do you think I made the right choise? Also I am currently in the MSF. Thanks!
What's the diameter of those circles? I don't think it would even be possible to cut that tight a turn on my ZZR600. I was practicing today and a locked and leaned turn was ~20'.
You should be slipping the clutch, so let the clutch out so far so its revving like the video above, that will give you control, then use the back brake lightly to control speed, no need to adjust the throttle if you do it correctly.
I'm doing the 25' u turn box (MSF CLASS) 2003 R6 and I can't do it. I was doing like what you were doing-putting my foot down. Either that or my wrist/elbow would hit the tank and mess me up. Just really trying not to drop it.
Hmmm.. could be are you from NB Canada, Im pretty sure I had the only one around...I sold it last year and the person I sold it to ended up selling it last month or so....
Whats the story on the bike? I've been wondering how it got over here. Anything you know about the bike?, The PO didn't know much, I'm wondering if its got the original motor in it, and any major work done on it?
The old cbrs aren't the easiest to work with at slower speeds at first... they're hella heavy! I've got a '92, and it took me a little bit, but it gets easier and easier the more I ride it.
So you got an r6? I found them to have amazing handling once they're lowered. It was an incredible difference.
Good work fella. Not easy keeping that upright at slow speed. I passed on a Kawa 500 (ER5) and now feel comfortable doing the turn on most, but vexpopuli, choose an easier one with a better turning circle than a CBR, especially an older one...
Give yourself a better chance, might be ok but using a rental Kawa er5 or a GS500 will be far more forgiving... Just a thought..
Did you pass the test on this CBR? I have to do this too, and everyone is trying to convince me that it's just way too hard to do it on a CBR ('93 model btw)
Yeh I did pass it with this cbr...it was my friends bike and he also passed it with this bike...its probably not the easiest bike to do it with but with practice it comes really easy...on this vid it was probably my second or third day practicing...after a good week you will be fine
Hey man just wanted to thank you for this vid. I was already planning on buying some 125cc bike since some people were convincing me it was impossible to do proper eights on a larger bike. I now have a 1994 Kawa ZZR600 and after just a few hours of practice I see it's not such a big deal. I think it's larger than a CBR but still with proper clutch and throttle control it gets easy realy soon. Just have to remember to look in the direction I want to go :) Thanks again man!
Hey..happy to hear that, u'll be all set now with the bigger bike when you get your license. U'll be fine, I practiced for another couple of hours the day before my road test to make sure I was ready and that it came to me naturally...I'm sure u'll be fine it'll get better as the days go by...later nice talking to ya
its gets easy with practice,..it all depends on with bike you drive..I now own a 2007 yamaha r6 and the turning ratio is much wider wich makes it a lot more difficult..
Nice video. A safety suggestion. Sometimes when you drop a foot it will get caught under something on the bike. Some good work boots will help prevent a broken ankle or torn achilles tendon.
Is there a certain speed you are required to go while doing this, and the figure 8?

@xxschuugboyxx
Not at all as long as you show that you have control of the bike and are able to maneuver the circles correclty

It's not a very hard exercise. Just get your hand off the clutch, and give the bike neutral gas and adjust your speed with the back brake.
