Without Val, i wouldn't have had the pure passion for music i have now, Val was first, my introduction to the world of music...others followed but without the emotion...
I never knew this was a single-I've only ever heard Petula Clark's version on the Colour My World LP-written by Jackie Trent, who co-wrote with then husband, Tony Hatch, many of Pet's hits. Not too familiar with Val...I don't think he was big here in Canada, so thanks to YouTube and you wonderful folks who post lost gems like this, it looks like I'm going to search for more of his songs.
This song was in regular rotation in 1967 on the national CBS-FM network. Two years later Val had a summer varity show here in the USA. He was, and still is, a very talented singer.
val was unique in 1967 - he was the only solo artist to have a number one album whilst the beatles, the rolling stones and the sound of music dominated the top spot... the album; val doonican rocks.. but gently.
Lovely man...lovely song....lovely lyrics...unlocking a golden treasure trove of so many lovely childhood memories..my mother's gentle smile and tender embrace...this is for you, Mum..hope you can hear this from Heaven!

@ petclark1: The title "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" on Petula's "Colour my world" is not identical with this one by val doonican.

Val Doonican, Matt Monro and Englebert Humperdink all remind me of my childhood when I listen to them, such lovely voices.
