i hear it that fast for the first time. And i like it very much!
For me, the slower version is like looking at the infinite ocean, and your version is like a rapid river.
i know it doesn't agree with your video combination, but that's how i feel;)
so i think we can't say that one of the version is better. Both are lovely if played with feelings. I can hear your feelings in here- and that's beautiful!
Just because Michael Nyman played it slow in the soundtrack and everyone else in YouTube followed him, doesn't mean I have to. I played it slow before, and I couldn't feel the music flowing. This speed suits me. The tempo marking in the sheet music does indicate quaver (half note) = 50 - 64, allowing some tempo freedom for different players.
Slower may be better for you and everyone else, but not for me. I like it just the way I played it :-)
i personally like this piece slower but i do agree with you- a piece is all about the players interpretation of the music and if you feel this is the best tempo then good for you to say it!!!!! i liked your performance btw!!!!!!!!
You played it really welll (and your kids sounded cute) but, I think you needed to slow down a little bit to really get a sense for the passion of the song.
I agree that normally this piece is to be played slower, like Michael Nyman's version in the soundtrack, and almost all other players on YouTube.
The version I haven't seen on YouTube is Ada's version, the character in the movie, played by Helen Hunt. She played considerably faster but with as much passion and conviction. That's why I played at Ada's tempo, something different to offer YouTube viewers.
Oh, those kids weren't mine and the "daddy" wasn't me!
I'll have to watch the video again but I think if just the begining was slower, and you kept the speed throughout the rest of it,it would sound more like Ada's version.
well played i must say, but because he is young he does not feel the music as the title says my big secret..but the young man has talent

It's beautifully produced. I do prefer it slower though. But like you say, you should play it the way you feel it. So good on you!

i think the song sounds better a little faster; slower sounds too sad.

Hahaha! Well then the random kids sounded cute.

Either way I really liked it
