Do you know if there's any way to make this app work as a VST? so it's also audio/midi synced and you could skip the mini jack step i just hate the idea :P
@chadgesser1 are you talking about your computer keyboard? If so, make sure it's activated by pressing command-k, and make sure it's chosen as your MIDI input method.
@chadgesser1 I struggled for about half an hour, following the video step-by-step, and couldn't get anything to work until I discovered he left out a critical step. Make sure you go into the Animoog app and in the "Page:" field, select: Setup > MIDI, and then in the MIDI Inputs box, select the session you created (in this case: "Network Session 1")...that did the trick for me...
another highly rhetorical question? (hopefully the moog boys and girls will be reading this), why don't they just release the anamoog as a vst/au plug???!
@sevenismagicman You don't need WiFi, perse, to do this, and can potentially do it anywhere, as long as you have the two devices that will connect via the ad hoc network created by your computer. And about iPads and USB, yeah, it's not as solid of a connection, but the fact that you can go wireless like this is pretty great, too. There are its obvious flaws, but they're going to make these things better and better as time goes on.

Thanks for making this video. I was about to cop an interface for my phone!

a telling point though, when i adjust the bpm in ableton the way you demonstrate, the change does not show up on the animoog app
so while the ad hoc network is indeed showing up in ableton, perhaps the ipod is not communicating with the computer network?

@chadgesser1 make sure that Ableton is "playing." Changing the tempo statically won't change it.

@palatialcrestmusic yeah, i did that too...really seems like a communication over wifi error...bummer
might just go with an iRig MIDI option..but your route sure would be cheaper

man i have tried this on a windows machine and just cannot get it to work
i downloaded rtpMIDI and it looks as though the settings are pretty much all the same
i go into ableton, everything shows up (the computer name of the network, midi synced that out, etc)
when i open up the external instrument, the ipod is playing through the midi channel but i cannot use my keyboard to control the Animoog app

@sevenismagicman I think the original intent was to have Moog in your pocket. Having them release a vst/au plug-in would be +1, definitely.

ok, stupid question time (since i am kinda new to the wifi scene...).
can you only do this at home? if you play out, do you have to depend on the venue having a wifi?
from day one, when i heard about the ipad, i was kinda bummed that it does not have a usb jack...i know you can purchase one, but still...
