The Old Dun Cow was written (words and music) by Harry Wincott (1867-1947), born in Lambeth, London, lived the later part of his life in Yeovil. The original Old Dun Cow was in Walworth, an area of London.
@TawnyGoblinQueen Yeah, that happens a lot in the SCA, too. In fact, the version I'm singing in this video is actually an amalgam of three different versions I've encountered over the years, with my own little twist thrown in for good measure. ;-)
Sounds good to me! There are a bunch of variations of the lyrics, though, so you might want to Google "Old Dun Cow Lyrics" and choose the ones that you like the best.
i wish there weren't comments likes dislikes and ratings they just cause war over youtube i say this out of how many people leave hate comments and we respond back yelling at them hatefully not knowing them at all re post this if you agree started by mileyworldrocks247

"Playing down the nose" makes no sense. The song goes "playing on me nose", as in George Carlin's Hawaiian nose strumming.
Or are you making it out that "The Nose" is some coffee shop or gathering spot?

@Rajamuttu It's "playing dominoes".

Ah! Thanks.

@ebenbrooks Actually the verse goes..."Some friends and I in a public house
Were playing a game of chance one night
When into the pub a fireman ran
His face all a chalky white. "

@TawnyGoblinQueen This is a folk song. Trying to assign concrete lyrics to a folk song is like trying to herd cats. ;-)

@TawnyGoblinQueen Understood, I lernt it from Fellow revolutionary War re-enactors...Lyrics get Askewed and Dirty Very Quickly With us my dear...

I love the version where they dont die, but they go to another pub;
Later that night, when the fire was out
We came up from the cellar below.
Our pub was burned. Our booze was drunk.
Our heads was hanging low.
"Oh look", says Brown with a look quite queer.
Seems something raised his ire.
"Now we gotta get down to Murphy's Pub,
It closes on the hour!"

Very nice, I might just have to go around singing it. Maybe teach it to my friends, and have all of us sing it.

its a great song, but i have to admit your version is a little lacking... i prefer the more authentic "raunchyness to the voice" versions
jcmingme 2 years ago
C'est la vie. My version isn't everyone's cup of tea... But thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
ebenbrooks 2 years ago
Needs more speed, and more raunchyness to the voice. Seriously. It is after all, IRISH.
Phantomsbreath 2 years ago
I play it at the speed I learned it. And I guess I could sing it with a brogue, but that might just be annoying... ;-)
