I've got another problem, mij ipod classic 80gb lags, when I go to the next song it freezes for about 5 sec, the backlight goes out en then it responds again.

idc what you all say, scrolling is painfully slow on my 80gb 6th gen too. simply scrolling through songs or playlists is really slow compared to my old 5th gen. also when searching through songs i have trouble getting the letter show up in the middle of the screen to search by letter instead of individual names, while on my 5th gen it pops up right away... its annoying as hell.

I've had my iPod classic in bout 1-2 years now and it just froze when i took it out of the computer (unplugged it) and it froze and i got ?electicity? hurt quite hard :S and i just reseted the system and it worked fine again now "chuck"ing and stuff... so.... yea and i only got like 70 songs so its NOT overloaded -.-

ok here is the thing, if you get photos from the internet that are large it will take some time. The photos that come with itunes purchases are usually 8k or lower. Also have you ever did a manual reset this can help it.

Hey man good video. I just got a 120gb yesterday (what happened to the 160? I looked and didn't see it anywhere) cause my old 30gb died. The 120gb is also slow on the scrolling and loading. I'm thinking about exchanging it for another 120gb but I'm sure they're all the same.

Well, I understand your observations. However, bear in mind, that this device has two 80 Gig hard disks built in. Naturally, it is a bit slower ! On the other hand you have an enormous amount of storage space.

I also have another 80 Gig iPod which is a little bit faster, but I think it's not really important, as long as the files play flawlessly.

The iPod classic does not have two 80GB hard drives, it has a single hard drive with two 80GB platters. Also, the hard drives would have nothing to do with the scrolling speed, the data is read from the hard drive and cached into a small amount of solid state memory. The problem is that Apple HALVED the size of the memory cache in the new iPods.

my 80gb classic has the EXACT same problem. I dont have very many long files like the text documents but my scroller is terrible, its like sometimes it works sometimes not, it kinda skips along "chugs". it seems to be very insensitive and doesnt recognize that I am scrolling. I dont have too much stuff in it yet only 1 movie and some music (4.5gb) yet the classic has a very slow response time.

it's not a bug in the software, that's why updates aren't doing SHIT. the new iPod has a slower processor to keep/improve from the battery life of the past iPod while trying to make the new iPod slimmer (larger hard drive, smaller battery in the same, or smaller space). it's a readily addressed issue, and it probably won't be fixed.

There is however one problem when you have a large library of music 10,200 ACC files about 600-700 albums the cover art is a little slow loading. Simple fix disable cover art.

I'm hearing many people saying the same thing. I want to buy a 6th gen. Ipod. But with all of these problems, I am very skeptical. The 5th gen. Ipod is fantastic. But I really like the superficial look of the new ipods and the fact that it's 80 gigs for $250, it's a very compelling motif. I'll wait 2 months from now to see if apple will FINALLY fix these problems. If not, I'll just buy a fifth gen. Ipod.
