Did anyone think this might be the end of the round and the person is just pulling the horse up - in affect the horse is avoiding the bit and going behind the vertical :P My pony would do this in cross country
@BerrySwingingJumper The horses head is behind the vertical. This is an incorrect head position caused by the rider which can lead to stress fractures in the neck. If you look in the rule book for pretty much any English show the poll (bone on the top of the head) should be the highest point of the body. although exact position varies from horse to horse depending on their conformation.
@TheEquineEquation The heads behind the vertical? The horse is wearing a running martingale,it's suppose to put the animals head down by putting pressure on the bit.The horse is probably just doing a couple of strides with their head like that, then when they start doing jumper courses the rider gives them a little bit of slack. This video is just the effect of the martingale, and the rider know what their doing.
@BerrySwingingJumper Martingales are not for "setting" a horses head they're for keeping the horse from throwing their head up and running away with you or from hitting you in the head with their head. Having the horses head that low takes away allot of control & maneuverability from the rider. I don't know about you, but when i do a jumper course i like my horse to see where he is going and where his feet are. LOL from a 13 second video we really can't tell what is going on.
@TheEquineEquation I never said it was for"setting"the horse's head.Yeah it is to prevent the horse for throwing their head up and hitting us,your definitely correct on that, but I was just saying that horses usually like to be silly or they just like to bring their head down while they have a martingale like that on them.Obviously no horse in jumper rings have their head tucked like that for the whole ride.lol,I'm not stupid.
Exactly,it's a 13sec vid so stop making a big deal.
Why is the rider asking the horse to go into a dressage frame (and a very horrible one) when they are jumping?!?!? Is the rider trying to show off or what?? "Ohh look at me and my poor horse, we can do anything" What an idiot. There is absolutly zero need for the horse to be in that frame in jumping....and i wouldnt be surprised if the horse had a bad round, i would also refuse if i had my head tucked into my chest and i couldnt see the jump until it was right under my nose! Stupid people
Even though this horse is being ridden in an overflexed position, what makes you think there is any problem, many horses are very supple and are not uncomfortable like this.
This same posture could just as easily be created without a bit.
@KirstieJDP rider error? no, the rider sure know what he's doing, I hate to see jumping riders forcing their horse in an unnatural position. it's bad enough when the dressage riders do it.
sorry I'm Danish, I dont know the English horse-expression.
@sannedidriksendk I am a dressage rider, and one of the things I hate most, is when people force their horses heads into unnatural positions. Not all riders are cruel, just some take things way too far. :[
@KirstieJDP The bit looks just like a regular snaffle but the thing that isn't really good about this is the rollkur. The horse is beyond his vertical and with rollkur, it restricts breathing to the horse. That's really it but some horses don't get effected by it as much as others.

Horse's need a strong leader, not a rough and tough leader if you can't see whats wrong in this vid then you are clueless about horses

@Lori4Saru well she may have been practicing dressage in a jumping ring. i have done that.
swade21796 8 months ago
@swade21796 the horse is wearing ear muffs, a figure-of-eight noseband, and a martingale. I think its pretty obvious they're jumping.

amandaindy 2 years ago
How is this horse abuse? Honestly.
And what the hell are you talking about? Do you even *know* what you're talking about? Do you even know the first thing about horses?
KirstieJDP 2 years ago
just see how the rider puuull the bit back very hard for every step.
amandaindy 2 years ago
Yeah, I see it. It's called 'rider error' not horse abuse.
