Don't get me wrong, I'm still impressed by this car, especially with a driver running this fast in the rain. It reminds me of the Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette testing. With a Lingenfelter TT SBC under the hood and John Lingenfelter behind the wheel, he was running 240+ during test runs in heavy rain, and ultimately ran 256MPH. The thought the car had more in it, but left it at that.
I'm pretty sure the Keating TKR or the NRE TT LSX powered Mosler (or any of the swoopy NRE powered cars) are considerably faster than this. The TKR did 260 mph at El Mirage dry lake in 3 miles while only running 10psi (900 HP) when it's good for 1200+HP on pump and 1800hp on race at full boost (32 psi). The similar engine in the Mosler ran Vegas to LA getting 19 MPG with water and oil temps never over 160 F. Street Legal: Check. 250+mph: Easily. Finding a driver to keep the pedal down: not yet
In 1987,Gale Banks went 283MPH with a Pontiac GTA. In 1999, at Bonneville,Kugel&Lefevers Pontiac averaged just over 300MPH,exiting at 307MPH. Although this video was put up a few years ago, but their info was still wrong, even then. Even so,it's still fast... but nowhere near fast enough. Only 5 of the 50 Veyrons built at the new level will be set to reach the new max level. They are factory hot rods but I don't call "5" production. When you get to this level, it's just who's fastest.
Awesome! I just love the 3rd Gen Firebirds, especially the GTA. I had a 1986 Firebird V6 years ago. I have a C5 Corvette now but still miss my old bird. Back then it was too expensive for me to fix its broken engine but now I think I should have kept it. 3rd gens are getting rare now. Nice to see an old supertuned Firebird breaking modern day supercar records. There was a time the 3rd gen F-bodies were the most aerodynamic production cars in the world. Nice vid, thanks for sharing.
I know it's an American car and most likely powered by an American engine, but it is the work of a bunch of Europeans. So as much I'm proud to be an American I'd have to say at least half the credit has to go to the craftmanship that turned what we essentially consider a clunker here, into a Veyron beating supercar.
Today the record has been broken by the Veyron but this car is still one helluva machine and honestly, if I had to spend my own money buying a 250mph car, I'd get this.
it wouldnt be that hard to make one just a big block i think 650 or so plus a supercharger that pushes 30+psi about one hundred thousand dollars to build it not much really.
only stock production cars count for this kind of record. 400km/h is nothing outstanding. any race car with 1000+hp can do that, but that is not a car that is sold new to be driven on the streets
This is some performance measures on this transam.. Enjoy!
(0-60mph) 0-100 kph: 2,23 sec,
(0-125mph) 0-200 kph: 5,55 sec
(0-185mph) 0-300 kph: 12,22 sec.
(1/8 mile) 201m: 5,91 sec-205 kph(127mph)
(1/4 mile) 402m: 9,19 sec-202 kph(125mph) ( the gearbox broke during this run and he rolled over the finish line, thats why he had so low trapspeed. The car runs high 8's )
60 ft: 1,45 sec.
AND.. The official record on the ATP-Papenburg is 407.134 kph ( 253mph ) with WET conditions, hard rain.
@WarCowboy - he doesn't need American this or that. It was his preference. Simple as that. Lots of euro guys like muscle cars, as we like they're euro stuff as well. Quit with the import vs domestic implications. It just shows ignorance and narrow mindedness.
it's all in the gearing of the transmission and rear end. I guarantee he has really low gears in the rear end and transmission making his pick up slower than average but over all speed is obviously alot higher...
this is for the owner of the car.. are you utilizing the ground effects up front as downward force or appearance? id hope your leaving unwanted drag in the equation
Flaire I Hope to God you read this. You are the reason Europeans are hated as much as the Americans at the moment. You and your uppy attitude. You assume you are better than anyone else because you shit in Europe. Grow the fuck up.
Hmmm... Could either a Veyron or this car keep up with The Big Red Camaro? 1969 Camaro that pulled off a 197MPH average over 97 miles clear back in 1989 with a 19 year old kid driving it at the Silver State Classic. No fancy turbos or high tech stuff. Just a 540inch Donovon with a great big Holley on top.
This is absolutely ridiculous since there have been multiple cars found all over the world which could go past the 250 MPH marker. There are vehicles from several years ago which could do this, but it was only made into a big issue once people started looking at what stock vehicles could do. However, this is unimportant since every vehicle built from its genesis is always constructed following a process of modifications.
Don't ever try to express yourself on youtube ever again because your lack of intelligence is simply a grotesque insult the human species. It's clear that you need to learn how to open a text book and inform yourself better on certain subjects before writing nonsensical statements.
Your ability to write the english language humors me...The top speed of the veyron was verified, but many cars have been to this speed before and exceeded it. Even the poorly designed venom viper had the ability to beat it. Who cares if a vehicle straight from the factor can go 253 mph? If you used the same parts in any car it would do the same, which defeats the purpose. With the price of the veryon you could build something even better. "Modification" is a term which doesn't exist here.
Did i say anything about the price or about modification i said it was the fastest PRODUCTION car and that it is EUROPEAN, americans cannot make good cars on their own, and as for the english language it is not yours american, it is english and all you did was ruin words by changing meaning and how you pronounce them.
You should stay more up to date than since it was beaten by the SCC company in 2008. You could even count the the venom viper if you wanted to since it is a mass produced vehicle on a limited run.
Your just another band wagon....I suppose that's why the CTS,ZR-1,ATC, and SCC have dominated most of the other production cars out right now. I can guarantee you have never driven enough cars to make an educated statement about euro/pacific/american vehicles. You obviously don't have the financial assets to own any of these vehicles. I can't believe how much you like to flaunt your low IQ...LEARN MORE ABOUT THESE GRAND INVENTIONS AND STOP POSTING FECES ON THIS VIDEO
Thats all rich coming from americans that are wannabe heavy metal artists, and to be honest your kind of sad when all you want to do is try to start arguments on youtube comments. And i very much doubt that you have the financial assets to own any good vehicles as no one has ever heard of your band before and that you are still driven around by your mother! lol you think your hard because your in a band and that your an american, you make me laugh.
And by the way US English is spelled and pronounced incorrectly with very poor grammar in its structure :) So, may I respectfully suggest that you sad excuses for human beings sort out your own inadequacies before you deem yourself to be high enough priority in the food chain to comment on others speaking their own native language correctly.
Than if you are a resident of england...why aren't you more proficient at your own language? Don't characterize me as an american citizen. Simply classify me as a human being.
