the movie sucks! sorry but the shots are stupid! who wants to see the reactions of the family's faces for 10 fucking minutes and the worst thing: the remote!!! WTF?????
@admiralzzyx Exactly. It shows that not every victim in movies needs to live (its been done before in other movies) but specifically this one, the villians are in control from the very beginning, (ex. looking into the camera, asking the audience questions, remote control etc.) there was no hope for the family. That's why I love it, movies don't need a happy ending.
I liked "Funny Games" and not for the reasons alot of people liked it. I have always wondered about a horror film where none of the victims lives. You know like in Halloween/F13th-someone always escapes. This one is very different that way because I expected it to end that way. I've not seen the German version, but this was a decent movie.
id rather lick rosie odonnels pussy than watch funny games again.. officially the worst movie ever.. not only does it not make any fuckin sense but a guy used a remote to rewind his friends death??? that def happens in real life.. fuckin joke.. i will shit on the producers face for actually makin this piece of shit movie.. but please watch so yu can react the same way as me
I watched Funny Games and it's one of my favorite movies, but I didn't know that there was a message at the end. I must have not been paying close attention. What did you interpret as the message?
After watching this movie rather than watching it again I would saw my wiener off with a butter knife throw it into a blender and eat it like tapioca pudding
I really don't know what exactly I would give this movie in stars.. I kinda liked it, expecially the idea of the movie. But some scenes where just unbelivable boring, for example the EXTREME long scene in the livingroom with NO angle change and NOTHING really happens..
But yeah, other than some of the boring scenes it's a really good movie :)
People may think it's a boring, tedious, dull film about a exhausted issue with some pompous european director talking down to those in hollywood, but it raising good thinking points, many people watch horror films that have no real consequences or honest resolutions but are entertained, are you entertainment with this violence, it's for your entertainment. This is just my opinion but i believe this film does discuss our compliance in watching sanitized violence and it seeks to punish us.
I go to the movies to relax and have fun especially horror films. I dont want to rack my brain trying to figure out some esoteric fucking message. This wasn't a mystery movie or a documentary It was a artsy fartsy POS horror film from some weird german dude.
This is what Michael Haneke was expecting americans who don't watch subtitled movies, but love to see the latest gore fest or slasher flick will be turned off, pissed off and frustrated by Funny Games. The film is a satire of horror movies and mocks the audience by showing them what they want but then flipping it on it's head, giving you violence but the not stylized, unrealistic type americans are accustomed to is haneke's intention.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Exactly what I was trying to explain. Most people like the typical American gore-fest and ARE entertained but in this Haneke wants you to think that something is going to benefit the family but instead twists it on the audience. It toys with the viewer while keeping it entertaining and thought provoking.
@clrb15 I hate typical gore-fest movies and I also really hate "Funny Games". It was so incredibly boring and pretentious. Go watch "Afterschool" its just as critical of violence but its actually interesting to watch.
@acousticology Agreed, the last act of this movie (if you look away fom all the bad and long shots earlier in the film) was the most boring thing I have ever seen in a film I belive, nothing is happening in this bad movie. I dont see how ppl can like this one.. Intresint idea, bad product..
This movie sucks sooooooooooo bad. Holy shit! its so fucking boring and long. Makes no sense. Bitch ass family deserves to die, but I wanted these two faggots to get there so bad but the didn't and they just keep going house to house killing dumb white rich people. You have been warned! Complete trash!
The two things I liked about this movie was Michael Pitt's performance as Paul (and the other killer was good too, but he didn't have much dialogue) and the good cinematography. What I especially disliked about it was that the editing needed to be tightened up -- too many scenes were needlessly drawn out, making those moments really boring.
The so called games were not even interesting... so what they can count and then shoot some one.... My guess is it is a pathetic attempt at trying to be realistic but totally missing the mark and insulting the intelligence of the viewers with useless information...
don't talk to the audience and try to be original (Don't they do that in Disney type movies?).. the rewind scene was so pathetic... he should have did us a favor and turned off the movie for us.
I like the film. I recommend you watch the interview Michael Haneke after watching the film! It allows you to make sense of the film and see it though the eyes of the director.
just saw the movie and it sucked. it was predictable, boring, unoriginal(seen it before) and the acting was fucking annoying, the worst was the "rewind scene" how fucking stupid was that? btw what was the message at the end? don't let preppy white boys into your home???
Stupid movie with an outdated message that if you didn't know by now proves that your stupid. It is a waste of time and is clearly the worst film in the industry.
funny games is a fuckin cheat. its like they wanna make it realistic to present the way things would really happen in real life. i understood that aspect of the film.....but then this motherfucker gets to rewind and redo the chaos whenever he wants?
thats fuckin bullshit. dont bring up "realistic" if this son of a bitch can pull a Neo, and just control reality...thats such a fuckin pussy movie by the filmakers....
You have to know too that the movie knows its a movie. The characters look at the screen and talk to the audience. I like it so much because no matter how much you want the good people to win and/or you want it to go your own way, the movie doesn't let that happen.
So even though the movie is made to be realistic in how things happen, it's also a movie, and anything can happen when the killers are in control...and they are.
so then the plot is worthless....if the killer is just gonna wind up doin what he wants....what's the point of watchin?...just to see violence....i can watch jackass for that....
I didnt understand at first which was the point of some scenes and before say the film is shit I watched an interview where the director explains his message and the intention of the movie.
I'm not going to explain it cuz my english sucks and I dont wanna manipulate his words but for me the explanation of Haneke worked. I think it's a great movie, there are great interpretations and a great idea transformed in a great reallity.. but you know... this is only my opinion.
I liked Funny games a lot. It was intense, brutal, and it made me feel uncomfortable. At the same time it showed art using 10 minute clips. The only thing wrong with the film is that it was too intense. But that was the film's job.
Thank you! The way it took patience and its time just built the suspense and intensity that much more. It's also much more realistic in its violence which made it that much more scarier than all the unrealistic blood and gore that the "Saw" and "Hostel" movies have.
Good review. You weren't moving around too much, you got to the point, and really grabbed people's attention. I for one have wanted to see Funny games every since they said it was coming out October 26th and after they pushed it back but it's wasn't in my theater. I still haven't seen it on DVD. That makes me mad!
Funny games is meant to show us that we are totally sensitized to violence in cinema.By shoving our face into a real torture scenario(which happens every day through rape, murders and tortures) we get to see what violence actually represents.Noble in a way but I feel all it does is condescend movie makers(we're not stupid) and give columbine worshipping sucicidal fucked up brats ideas.
As a movie or piece,it is interesting.Better than Bennys video which I turned off out of disgust.
some1 tell me,...wTf is the significance/meaning/message of funny games,..wtf was it?....i jsut saw the movie and im just blank, 2 me it was just 2 evil bastards in a fictional movie,...just dont get it and i h8 the part where he rewinds the f*king sh*t when the "hero" actually does something about it
this movie was hilarious. however, we feel that your review is wrong. message at the end? sir the only message in this movie is be anorexic, or die as we explain in our fabulous review. your friends are obnoxious.
the movie sucks! sorry but the shots are stupid! who wants to see the reactions of the family's faces for 10 fucking minutes and the worst thing: the remote!!! WTF?????

TheYorker123 1 year ago
in a nutshell it just show audiences everything they've already seen, there is nothing really shocking that audiences havent already seen.
And that i think is Hanke's point, through out the film it asks you hundreds of times "Why are you still watching this film".
Of course there are loads of other themes, that others have explained much better then i could...
and in response to the fella down there, this film is only predictable if you've seen the original. IT IS NOT PREDICTABLE!

The film would be MUCH more interesting, if they had tried to pull the same stunt with a different family....
Like the Manson family, for example.
Or the Firefly family (House of 1,000 corpses).
That would have made the film a much better watch.
I digress... the point of a film's existence is entertainment and as an added bonus get you thinking afterwards surely?
If it fails in the first area - even if it flies in the 2nd... that's still a fail.
I got more in-depth discussion after se7en.
