The lower crime rate existed BEFORE the stricter gun control, and the laws have had no effect on it! I know it's an old comment but in Britain, gun control seems to work fine for most of the time - this is obvious as police here don't patrol with guns - and when people do have guns in public and the cops know about it then they send in an armed response team, the British equivalent of an American SWAT team. Seems to work just fine, however, that may be because we're an island so it's probably more difficult to get the guns in the first place.

England has ALWAYS had a low firearm-related crime rate, before and after all of their increases in gun control and in spite of the availability of guns.
