Those still watching this video some 2 years later: No, there is no "upper" path. "the way it works is that I only had so many screens to work with. God this so reminds me of mega man 8, frost man's stage, where you slide on a snowboard and the whatever it is tells you to "JUMP JUMP" or "SLIDE SLIDE"

and when you DO, do what the thingy does you either end up freefalling to your death or getting your face punctured by a nice amount of spikes.

The beginning part is made like that so that it can be later used for the mid point. I could only work with so many screens before running into the ones for the other Wily levels.
