Motorcycles are dangerous he says, but again it's all about the rider. I have a ZZR600 as well as having riden many others in my time over the last 16 years, and never had any major problems. Insurance he says, but it cost me less per year to insure my 125 than it did for my colleagues to insure their car for a month. Whether you choose a car or a motorbike, there are pros and cons on both parts. Insurance in general, especially if you're young will be expensive.
What the hell? i pay 23 a month for My insurance on My 1100 Yamaha. and i have been paying that price since i was 22. that is only 46 dollars a year. i pay $86 a year for a bike a Camaro and a Plymouth with 2 accidents and 3 tickets on My record and i am currently 25 years old. so i THink its time you switch insurance companies My friend. :-)
I'm in australia, i can get an aprillia rs125 (2008 w/ 2'800kms) for $5500. Comprehensive Insurance per year is: Your premium: $2462.18 (plus all 3 excesses below for claiming) + Based on an excess of: $400 + Unnamed under 25 year old riders: $800 + Inexperienced rider excess: $800
my insurance when i first started at 15 with my permit was $150 every 6 months. not bad at all. But i do agree that bikes are dangerous and that if you wreck it will most likely not be your fault.
i'd agree that bikes are dangerous, but you got scammed with the insurance. also, where tf do you live? nice open roads, few stops, no other cars on the road?! riders dream.
i would say only buy a bike if you have the passion and ready to take the risk in controlling it in near death experience (like a car pulling out and not seeing you) you need reaction, and not thinking like a dick that you are v.rossi on main roads, even if it a 125cc or a 1000cc,
thats a horrible price for insurance, i was 18 when i got a sv650s and paid $35 a month with full coverage through state farm. Now im 19 and paying $49 a month for a 2007 gsxr600. Make sure you insure your bike through the same company you insure your car with that makes a huge difference
I don't think any buildings over 1 story should be build. Think about the inherent danger with staircases, escalators or elevators. Not to mention possible roof repair!
thats lucky, the one place i live in canada, motorcycles cost more on insurance than a car, and thats only using the motorcycle half the year. it costs about 2000 a year. its fricking rediculas
@RichardFone92 holy shit thats high, i was offered 1100 third party for my old r1 and im only 17, that is ridiculous anyway, the previous owner had 150$ per year full insurance. problem is license is 900$ per year
@RichardFone92 well a motorbike will always be less, with in reason. a car is known to be way more money. thats y i have a motorbike. if you shop around you will always get better deals. and remeber you maybe dont need a new bike?
@RichardFone92 mm. well over here in england u need to have a cbt. that is bike training. you can get that at 16 and be restricted to 50cc with l plates and then 125cc also with l plates at 17 years old on the same licance. you have to do a full test for a 250cc at the age of 17. im sure that it would cost around £500-£1000 depending on the age and condition of the bike and the no clames on ensurance.
I pay less than $200 per year on insurance for my bike... a suzuki gs500f. insurance isn't that expensive if you buy a non-squid bike. pro-tip, 600s are squid bikes.

Most motorcycle deaths are due to CAGERS and ridiculously fast driving speeds. Stupidity and unsafe driving practices end lives, not engine size.
Don't let these assholes get you down, you ride safe, you ride well, you make good videos, keep it up.
I paid $88 a year thru State Farm for my 1989 Honda Shadow VT600C. I paid $500 last year for my bike which had 9000 miles on odometer. ( It did not startt when I bought it because the owner did not know how to fix it, I rebuilt the caburators and It run now)

wtf Im 16 and my insurance is $50 a YEAR! That is only liability though, Im riding on a old honda so if it gets fucked up who cares. But <$150 a month is just odd. Bad driving history?
yeah, insurance rates differ greatly between bike models and people, I've come to notice. My brother got a bike about a year ago and after everything hes only at 60 a month, and its his first bike. Mine was 80 a month when I was 21 (im now 24), so it definetly varies.
you do not make any sense!!! you talk about why you shouldnt own a bike and yet you say how much you love yours!!!!! wtf????? and the comment not fast enough.... squid
When I first started driving, im 23 now and started at 16, I payed 175 a month for insurance and when I got my first bike a gsxr750 I payed 45 dollars a month. I think it depends a lot on the coverages but I think over 100 a month is excessive to say the least
to continue, off course I had my drivers license for about 10 years when I started riding my Venox, as well as I had ridden a moped when I was in college which counted as experience. The price of the used Venox with about 900 miles was $1800 so that was reasonable. Used to ride every day to work even in winter, most days, so I actually saved money on the subway commute to NYC and back.
I would like to dispute some of the points mentioned against riding a motorcycle. I do not agree that it has to be expensive. It depends how much you are willing to budget to spend. Off course I was 47 years when I started to ride. My insurance cost with Geico when I started on a 250cc, a Kymco Venox (great cruiser, by the way) was $130 for the year, which is really cheap.
hayabusas and any bike over 1100cc should have special licenses for people to use them. i know for a fact that a busa is most dangerous vehicle you can buy.
What objective standard of measurement are you using to cite this "fact?" Starting on a Hayabusa is absolutely insane, but people tend to overlook its competitor, the ZX-14 which is equally powerful. Or how about the GSX-R 1000? The race replica liter bikes are just as unforgiving, and in some ways, even more unforgiving. And what about the large cruisers? Many of those are over 1000cc, and are quite tame compared to a 600cc I4 sportbike. Do you even own a motorcycle?
If you're young, insurance is awful, but it's not a reason for everyone to not buy a motorcycle. Full coverage insurance for me on a 900cc supersport only costs me $333 a year. Age, driving experience and good driving record DO make a difference.
You are paying insurance for the entire year in the months you pay, you just think you're not paying insurance for the months your bike sits in the garage. I'm an insurance agent and I know how some policies get billed as a general basis. Look in to Allstate, we kick everyone's rear when it comes to motorcycle insurance here in Wisconsin where I live. You also need to know what you have, do you have health insurance? then you don't need medical payments on the bike, your deductibles, liability..
Many important gimmicks mentioned there which companies use to weasel money from people who would rather ride a motorcycle than a car! E.g., insurance, overpriced gear, etc.
Remember people, THINK, BE CRITICAL & ASK FOR A REASONABLE OFFER!
@Penn666 Ouch. I just got an even lower premium. I went on the bikeinsurer .co .uk and cheapest was £209.79 with Express Insurance. Their No.'s 0800 980 4226. Fully comp is £436.14, TPFT is £346.02 but they want a £500 excess and my bike's not even worth that so I got the third party only
Progressive allows you to buy insurance online. I just have a small 250 chinese motorcycle and insurance is exactly $110 for 1year. i bought the insurance online and they send the papers to you. i have minimum required insurance
the only reasone i might not be aloud is because its more danguerus i dont care i kno its alittle mor but fuck im only riding it to work a cuple days a week and school so i dont care fuck
@bmws1000rrfan What insurance company? I'm 18 and just quoted a 2007 Gsxr1000 for no real reason. For full coverage it was 800 a year. For minimum coverage it was 300. For my 2009 ninja 250 I pay 130 a year for minimum coverage. BTW I live in MA.
@whothaplaya I dont have any type of record that could cause a high rate so I dont know what the problem is but I live in Texas so that might be it haha, but also whats the minimum, im talking full coverage that a finance company would want a person to have but shit 800 is a good deal for a year, well for Texas
@bmws1000rrfan If I wanted full coverage for my 250 it would be like 500. Min coverage is if you are at fault in an accident only the other persons vehicle gets paid for by your insurance. Any damage done to your bike you pay out off your pocket to fix. Of you dump your bike and total it you get no money from your insurance company. If you get a loan finance through the dealer you have to get full coverage. I paid cash for my bike so i just got min coverage.
I pay $43 a month for full coverage with comprehensive and collision with a $500 deductible, and I am 22 with a speeding ticket... NINJA 250 FTW!!! If you are concerned about insurance, don't buy a Supersport.
Of course if you are under 25-27 and buy a sport bike (besides the 250), I assume with a lien on the title and comprehensive coverage, insurance is going to be ridiculous. I'm 27 and paid $76 to insure a CB400T Hawk for year after taking the MSF course and getting an endorsement. If you buy and smaller, older bike and take care of it you can easily recuperate most (if not all or more) of your investment if you want to move up down the road. Weigh the choices carefully and consider all the cost.
@jeepnix1 AGREED i knew a friend who did this didnt take my advise and first time he got on i told him not to use the gas and just to let the clutch out he didnt do that he used the gas and flipped it on top of him
@jeepnix1 not if you actually respect the power of your bike. 90 percent of bike crashes are bc the rider was being stupid one way or the other. hitting the gas too hard, going into a curve to fast, shifting through a turn, or just simply driving off the road haha. seen that happen a few times myself! the other 10 percent of crashes are caused by other drivers not paying attention!!!
I agree with most of your stuff, but insurance? Think that's only b/c you have that new bike and have full coverage on it.
I have no coverage on my '04 R1 and I'm 22 or 23 and I pay like 300/yr or some low rate like that through progressive...and that's in NY where insurance is stupid high. It was like 1000/yr or something to that affect if I wanted full coverage.
Well, i really want a Motorcycle, but everyone is like..... " It doesnt matter how well you drive, its the crazy people around you that i'm worried about." So yeah, i really want one... but im debating i guess.
Why is it so expensive? Are you paying off the bike and have to have full coverage or some shit? I'm 18 I bought a 06 CBR 600RR and my insurance is like $180 a year....
@911turb0 The insurance company he goes through are a little bit more on the pricy side. I know motorcycles are different but an example would be Geico Insurance wanted about $750 a year for my 89' F150. Granted I had a speeding ticket and I'm a teenager, but I checked into Farm Bureau insurance and they quoted me only about $400 for the same coverage.
you definitely should go to Progressive I pay $900 for 10 months and get 2 months free. I ride a 2007 Honda Cbr 600rr pretty fast and a good beginners bike.
@kk144a thats only if you have a paid off bike and have liability insurance i think, right? but im bout to buy a bike and thats what ill be doing ill be buying a used bike and paying cash
Your insurance is a breeze compared to mine, for a car...I live in the UK, outskirts of London, I drive a 1.1L peugeuot, and it was £2500 for a year, which is about $4067...
I completely disagree that if a newb starts on a Hayabusa they ahve the same chance as wrecking as on a 250. That's just wrong. It's WAY easier for a simple mistake to escalate out of control on a liter bike than on a 250r.
@MadDogMeh I dunno man. To put it in perspective; I have a 2003 Lexus GS300 SportDesign, and a 2011 Lexus IS350 AWD, and for both cars and for both my wife and I to have full coverage is about $1030 every 6 months, or about $172 every month.. I would really try to find a better deal man. Just trying to be helpful. Good luck!!
lmao 2 grand. man he likes blowing money. I got all my gear for a few hundo and its not the cheap no names. also my coverage is $100 or so a year and what I am saving in gas will pay off my bike in two years. so it cost less to ride a bike. I also should point out I am doing a study on how cost effective it is to ride a bike over a car. :)
Im 19, only pay 50 a month for a CBR 600. They are dangerous but life is dangerous. I really disagree that motorcycles are expensive, you can get a USED motorcycle for under 5K thats like new. If you take care of it then it will last forever. Its a great way to save on gas and it will bring you joy each time you ride it
I also used to commute 32 miles to work in Santa Monica, and there was no better way to get to work whilst both using the carpool lane and lane-splitting (which is permissible in CA). Also, the gas prices are hovering around 4 bucks a gallon so motorcycles really help reduce gas-costs.
There's risk tho, agreed. I crashed on the 405 (in full gear) due to my suspension bottoming out off an odd big bump, but I was ok (tiny bit of road rash on both pinkies and some bruising). Proper gear is vital.
Geico has terrible prices, and your age works against you. In fact a 21-year old male is pretty much the worst case (other than someone younger). Try State Farm.
1. Motorcycles are dangerous, true, but you have choices on a bike for avoiding accidents that you don't have in a car. Flying like Superman would be dangerous too, but I'd fly everywhere like Superman if it were possible.
2. Bike size: A lot of this is dependent on the maturity of the rider..
3. Insurance is a non-issue for me. 250 a year. It's super cheap and I live in L.A. County (full coverage but I am 42).
@terrell568 State Farm has the best prices from what I've found. I am 42 tho, but I live in L.A. County and I only pay like 250 a year for an R1 or Gixxer 6 (that was with 1 ticket I think). younger riders or very young riders might pay more (I did the MSF too btw).
Geico and Progressive have the *worst* prices. Progressive was almost comically high.
@spacep0d i have not looked into State Farm yet but Geico was $91 a month and Progessive was $130 and Im eighteen. Then Again i live in the south east which is cheaper.... but as a poor college student thats too much for me :/
@remoteslab I'm gonna enjoy it for sure, the only vehicle i owned was a 50cc speedfight so even when its tuned down to 25kw its probably gonna blow my socks off :)
@ThrottleKnife if you're a beginner you shouldn't really have any skills at all on a bike hence the term beginner anyways .. what bike do you ride ? or what one did you ride as a beginner ? .. I plan on buying a yamaha yzf r125
in belgium its like 5000 euro for a kawasaki 250 its only 1750 euro more for the 750 so if youll prob endup buying a heavyer model why not do so imediatly
Insurance costs are relative, I'm 25 years old and live in suburbia outside a a 100k+ city, I pay the equivalent of $520 a year with full coverage on my CB500. It will go up to $630 this year since i plan on buying a CB600F witch is both newer and more powerful.
Considering i pay $480 a year for my extra car (a Toyota yaris 1.3l) the bikes are not to bad.
Might be that our car insurance is higher here the in the states, and that's why I don't see the bike insurance as excessively expensive
@brandmf if I could get a bigger bike I would but the law states that with a provisional license I'm limited to anything up to and including a 125 I have to get the full license and something else on the license to ride a bigger bike but 80mph isn't too bad not gonna be going that fast on these roads :-/
Cars cause allergies, you don't get enough fresh airand so your immune system can't fight them off and your allergies get worse!
I bet you have a centrally heated house with air con and you work in a place with the same things?

Insurance will be alot when you start.
When I was 18 in 1996 the insurance on my TZR125 was £400 which is about ($750) now after 16 years of riding my RF600 is only around £80 fully comp'.
If you don't want the insurance hassles get a 25 or a 400cc bike until you have a few years under your belt, then get a bigger bike.
Also learning to ride is easier and safer on a smaller cc bike, 400cc's are absolutely perfect for a new rider.

@opmike343 I have a Yamaha Maxim 550.
Bodily Injury - $250k/$500k
Property Damage - $100k
Uninsured/Underinsured - $100K-$300k
Medical - $50k
And Roadside assistance
No comp/collision because I don't have a loan on the bike.

hayabusas and any bike over 1100cc should have special licenses for people to use them. i know for a fact that a busa is most dangerous vehicle you can buy.
SolarGamer 4 months ago
@SolarGamer
Do you even own a motorcycle?
opmike343 4 months ago
@SolarGamer negative a busa is easier to ride a 1000cc sport bike.

If you're young, insurance is awful, but it's not a reason for everyone to not buy a motorcycle. Full coverage insurance for me on a 900cc supersport only costs me $333 a year. Age, driving experience and good driving record DO make a difference.
EnvyInc 5 months ago
when i worked in an insurance office, bike insurance was super cheap because in real motorcycle accidents most of the time the driver dies
osiris6364 5 months ago
You are paying insurance for the entire year in the months you pay, you just think you're not paying insurance for the months your bike sits in the garage. I'm an insurance agent and I know how some policies get billed as a general basis. Look in to Allstate, we kick everyone's rear when it comes to motorcycle insurance here in Wisconsin where I live. You also need to know what you have, do you have health insurance? then you don't need medical payments on the bike, your deductibles, liability..
SaintMichael82 5 months ago
Many important gimmicks mentioned there which companies use to weasel money from people who would rather ride a motorcycle than a car! E.g., insurance, overpriced gear, etc.

@Penn666 Ouch. I just got an even lower premium. I went on the bikeinsurer .co .uk and cheapest was £209.79 with Express Insurance. Their No.'s 0800 980 4226. Fully comp is £436.14, TPFT is £346.02 but they want a £500 excess and my bike's not even worth that so I got the third party only

whothaplaya 5 months ago
@whothaplaya I dont have any type of record that could cause a high rate so I dont know what the problem is but I live in Texas so that might be it haha, but also whats the minimum, im talking full coverage that a finance company would want a person to have but shit 800 is a good deal for a year, well for Texas
bmws1000rrfan 5 months ago
@bmws1000rrfan If I wanted full coverage for my 250 it would be like 500. Min coverage is if you are at fault in an accident only the other persons vehicle gets paid for by your insurance. Any damage done to your bike you pay out off your pocket to fix. Of you dump your bike and total it you get no money from your insurance company. If you get a loan finance through the dealer you have to get full coverage. I paid cash for my bike so i just got min coverage.

REASONS WHY NOT TO BUY A BIKE:
> IS A SHIT LOAD OF FUN :)
chris03653837 7 months ago
So the problems with a bike to sum it all up was:
Safety - Inevitable, be the best driver you can.
Price of Bike - Buy used, not a 10k dollar bike on a showroom floor.
Price of Gear - Buy used, often comes with the used bike.
Insurance - Barebones insurance will be a little over $100 a year. If you want theft protection, etc its gonna cost ya.
Allergies - inevitable
Bugs - ...
Enjoyed the video.

Weigh the choices carefully and consider all the cost.

ahampton07 8 months ago 14
@jeepnix1 not if you actually respect the power of your bike. 90 percent of bike crashes are bc the rider was being stupid one way or the other. hitting the gas too hard, going into a curve to fast, shifting through a turn, or just simply driving off the road haha. seen that happen a few times myself! the other 10 percent of crashes are caused by other drivers not paying attention!!!

I have no coverage on my '04 R1 and I'm 22 or 23 and I pay like 300/yr or some low rate like that through progressive...and that's in NY where insurance is stupid high. It was like 1000/yr or something to that affect if I wanted full coverage.

@911turb0 The insurance company he goes through are a little bit more on the pricy side. I completely disagree that if a newb starts on a Hayabusa they ahve the same chance as wrecking as on a 250. That's just wrong. It's WAY easier for a simple mistake to escalate out of control on a liter bike than on a 250r.

Im 19, only pay 50 a month for a CBR 600. They are dangerous but life is dangerous. I really disagree that motorcycles are expensive, you can get a USED motorcycle for under 5K thats like new. If you take care of it then it will last forever. Its a great way to save on gas and it will bring you joy each time you ride it
TheSailormanman 10 months ago
I also used to commute 32 miles to work in Santa Monica, and there was no better way to get to work whilst both using the carpool lane and lane-splitting (which is permissible in CA). Also, the gas prices are hovering around 4 bucks a gallon so motorcycles really help reduce gas-costs.
There's risk tho, agreed. I crashed on the 405 (in full gear) due to my suspension bottoming out off an odd big bump, but I was ok (tiny bit of road rash on both pinkies and some bruising). Proper gear is vital.

terrell568 10 months ago
Geico has terrible prices, and your age works against you. In fact a 21-year old male is pretty much the worst case (other than someone younger). Try State Farm.
spacep0d 10 months ago
4. No issues with bugs or allergies here. ;)
spacep0d 10 months ago
@spacep0d what type of insurance do you have that sounds great
terrell568 10 months ago
@terrell568 State Farm has the best prices from what I've found. I am 42 tho, but I live in L.A. County and I only pay like 250 a year for an R1 or Gixxer 6 (that was with 1 ticket I think). younger riders or very young riders might pay more (I did the MSF too btw).
Geico and Progressive have the *worst* prices. Progressive was almost comically high.
spacep0d 10 months ago

Insurance costs are relative, I'm 25 years old and live in suburbia outside a a 100k+ city, I pay the equivalent of $520 a year with full coverage on my CB500. It will go up to $630 this year since i plan on buying a CB600F witch is both newer and more powerful.
Considering i pay $480 a year for my extra car (a Toyota yaris 1.3l) the bikes are not to bad.
Might be that our car insurance is higher here the in the states, and that's why I don't see the bike insurance as excessively expensive
ThrottleKnife 10 months ago
@brandmf if I could get a bigger bike I would but the law states that with a provisional license I'm limited to anything up to and including a 125 I have to get the full license and something else on the license to ride a bigger bike but 80mph isn't too bad not gonna be going that fast on these roads :-/
