  • Bravo my friend!! You nailed it.

  • dat run at 1:20

    /sex

  • This is excellent, very nice job man

  • Proof positive that even though EVH is known as a lead player, he's an outstanding rhythm player as well. This is the best cover I've ever heard of this song, WELL DONE!

  • Done

  • It's really van halen Haha his face is just covered Haha jk well don't

  • Well fucking done!!! You are great (no eddie vanhalen but your still good) Keep rocking brother!

  • are you from Oklahoma?

  • @bryant2232 no sir

  • You did it once again Satch....you're killin' me!!

  • @ Satchbooggy How do we do that? Skype? Are you in a band?

  • @Yeseniaschick toss a few VH drum covers up on YT.....

  • Man, i wish i could jamm with you. I have been playing Van Halen songs on drums since i was 15. You rock!!!

  • @Yeseniaschick maybe we can jam out some VH online some time

  • @satchbooggy

u mind if i jam too with u guys online i play guitar only rythem

  • Fuck, I love this song. My favourite from 1984. And you smoked it, man. Well done.

  • awesome playing

  • Best one ive seen yet

  • That was just great. An amazing lesson, thanks. I hope your talents brings you happiness, they should.

  • for you hobbyist singers out there this is another good one to practice your vocals here, the lead vocal is'nt prominent and you just gotta turn up the mic on your PA some and you can hear yourself and the guitars good

  • Sounds great!

  • I see you've taken to holding the pick like Ed :) a true fan

  • you did a great job playing this tune, its one of my favorate van halen songs ever.

  • hey jerk...would it kill you to finish the damn song? you do this every friggin time with Van halen songs....you fade out before the end....WTFWTFWTFWTFWTFWTF!!!!

also, you have your gear setup totally wrong for this tune.....you need MORE GAIN & LESS DISTORTION....MORE MID-RANGE, LESS HIGHS & LOWS...it should sound HOT, not huge and echoing.....you obviously play great, but you really need to fix the sound AND FINISH THE DAMN SONG......

  • Always nice tone and note for note bro ! good job brother !

  • and evh really worked his unique artistry on the outro is a tasty microcosm of his style of writing and fretworks a good chance for you to add to your take hopefully

  • your playing has got to be pretty much just like watchin Ed close-up. And free.

  • Those ripped jeans had to give you a +10 dexterity. Nice job dude!

  • Your playing rocks it . Tone is fricking awesome.

  • hmmmmm On a couple of the riffs Eddie double strums the g and c chords. You don't appear to be doing that. Maybe it's a poor quality video?

  • Epic tone :UUUU

  • You have TRUE artistic talent there..... hunt down the sounds brother.... I'd love to hear you on another good day of playing, we all need some good inspirations. your awesome. Do you have any demo's I could check out ? : P

  • damn satch you always get it right ......haters be damned!!!

  • Very well done.

I'm trying to learn this song myself. This tune defines what rock is all about and on the album/cd, Eddy plays it like he's just jamming and having fun.

Looks to me like you got it down pat. Would you mind sharing your amp/effects that you used?

    Keep up the awesome playing!

  • this is also one of my favs to play as well you have an awesum style keep on jammin......

  • Balls to the fuking wall man!!!! \m/ \m/

  • amazing cover!! you make it look easy

  • my fav H song! U fuckin rip! Awesome jam!!!!!!

  • I can feel the power of Halen spinning through this guy's fingers..........

  • PERFECT!!!!! AWESOME

  • I don't want to be "That Guy," but could you tab the main riff for this song? I can't find a good one anywhere :/

  • @RadioactiveLegos go to jfrocks . com and go to i think the "time machine" section it has the whole song tabbed out plus an hour lesson of each song

  • @RadioactiveLegos Only posers use TAB, be a real musician, figure it out by ear. It's not that hard.

  • What effects are you using. I think he was using an Eventide Harmonizer to get that "chorusy" effect. Just wondering...

  • Does anyone else think that intro sounds like something Joe Perry would play? Sounds like his style, not eddie's

  • i cant ever get the timing of the very beginning right. i am always off. oh well, nice playin man!

  • Is it gay if a guitar player gives a drummer a hard on?

  • tab this or you die xD

  • i was head banging all the way through that nice one dude

  • what guitar is that???

  • @carychilton ibanez rg 2610

  • @satchbooggy sweet guitar i just got a 2570 not too long ago and it's a fabulous guitar. you definitly nailed this song. and a great song it is too!

  • You sound great with Eddie and the boys backing you up.

How do you sound playing this alone or even with merely a drum track?

  • @TruthAxe send me a good guitarless back track and ill show you.

  • @satchbooggy Cool. In the meantime, can you keep time? Do you have headphones to play along?

I'm not knocking you. If we could hear you play clean that would be great so some of us can learn from you.

  • @satchbooggy Yea... so did you get that guitarless backing track ;)

  • @TruthAxe if you can't see that hes playing this dead on, then take a seat please.

  • @FrankieC63 He's off by a half a beat within 7 seconds of the song. You must have tin ears.

  • @TruthAxe Dumb ass comment. Why don't YOU post how YOU sound alone. Merely a Dipshit.

  • You amuse, @dogkecha. Look at you. Mere words have enraged you. You've lost control of your faculties! Ha ha ha.

  • @TruthAxe come on be nice, he did a good job after all. Besides, his guitar is way louder than Eddie's.

  • U Nail Eddie perfectly, your guitar tone is great! Are you playing a japan made Jackson DX? I'd like to get one too!

  • @guitaroodude no it was a japan made prestige ibanez. RG2610. they are awesome guitars man

  • Always cool stuff from the satchboggy! Your VH articulation is quite on it Bro!

  • Very, very good, man!

  • awesome playing man.. I just started learning this tonight. Your vid definitely helps!

  • can you please please please tab me 1:20 - 1:32 ? please please please please please!

  • wow man ur pretty fuckin good u can rock the shit outof this song lol GJ

  • Very Cool! My Fav Van Halen song......

  • Can someone please tell me how to do the guitar slide in the video satchbooggy does? I can't found out how to do it and its a pretty kickass move.

  • Best riff ever! Good job

I've always thought that Dime must have been influenced by this song. Sounds a lot like his style

  • Bad ass.

  • You Rock Satch!!!!

  • AWESOME! Great tone, killer playing. You da man!!!

  • NICE WORK BUD!

  • yes evh was the master. he wasnt just speed playing.

  • How is this video not 5 Stars?

  • nice work ... good tone ;)

  • Kick ass- Great job on one of EVs best. List your gear when you get a chance plz.

  • sounds fuckin great

  • sweet job.. but ease up on the neck slides man you did one on like every measure of the first verse riff. the beauty of this riff is how chunky it is and the slides blur that shit up too much.

  • well. that was awesome!

  • favorite song off 1984

  • mine goes girl gone bad, house of pain, then top jimmy haha this one is right after that

  • exactly the way my list goes!!!

  • Me too man! me too....

  • tabs?

  • i thumbs up just cuz of ur username hehehe

  • Haha, thanks

  • Great job - really cool groove. Made my day.

  • I can only hope that someday I am able to play as good as you Satch

  • awesome

  • WTF!!! You spend all day playing mostly VH? Damn dude...keep rockin. I am finding learning VH songs actually improves my playing overall. Though my teenage son is anti-Eddie. Says he's an ass. I think he's just scared to play like him. LOLOL

  • @ronin2167

EVH *is* an ass. Doesn't mean he's not a *bad*-ass (sorry for that horrible joke). Yeah, if I was that good, I'd probably be an ass too, lol. Hopefully not, though. Satchboogy, man, you're freaking awesome.

  • isnt 1:21- 1:24 legato?

  • Nice.

  • Hey Satch, would you be able to do cover of Poison's Fallen Angel?

  • Well played dude...I used to love that song and still think it is one of the cooler tunes off 1984. House Of Pain is another good tune from that album. Thanks for posting your vid, cool to see it played up close.

  • I like it, good job.

  • anything else for ya?

  • why should he do that maybe he hust want to groove with it?

  • WOW is all i can say, WOW

  • Eddie never played the songs exactly the same as the record.

    Lay off...

  • Good reply......I couldn't agree more...cheers

  • Comment removed

  • too much bottom end. Not bad but Ed plays with more attitude, bring a bit more attack into it and it'll be much closer, also mute the ascending riff at 1:21 on

  • damn satch.... very good you got the tone and everything. is that an ibanez? if it is the neck gave it away.

  • Hey Satchbooggy, you know if you held your pick properly........Ah I'm kidding man, I jsut wanted to say that your videos have helped my playing so much its amazing. Thank you, and keep playing VH or us.

  • Yeah! I wish these "correcting"

    guys would leave people alone!

    Great stuff!

  • i was about to say the same thing. lol. always got something to say about the skill. if they so good, why dont they put videos of their own. anyways great stuff. 5 stars

  • Sick. Such an underrated tune.

    well f*&king done.

  • rock on satch!! u know u can remove comments like that from assholes prisses like that guy

  • You're full of shit dude, you can hold the pick any way you fucking want.

  • yeah it just so happens i hold it like methhead Ed. so fuck 1980assinvasion below you

  • stick your pick up your ass fucknut

  • hahahaha rock on satch tell that bitch you hold the pick how ever the fuck you want! btw this is a great version!!!

  • I think it would be cool if all of you guys could somehow get together and JAM!!!

  • Great tone too!

  • jeez, listening to this actually makes me want to go back in to a record store and buy the 1984 cd.....

  • i always listen to this album up real loud in the car its one of my favs

  • Just another reminder of how much of a Genius King Edward is. Your technique is AWESOME. I would have loved to watch you riff on the outro...

  • Just another great riff/song by EVH. Impressive cover...great job!

  • Like your technique. aka Bad ass.

  • Sweet!!!!

  • what is the guitar on video? esp?...

  • its an ibanez rg2610 prestige. go check one out they totally rock. sadly mine had to go bye bye

  • Satchbooggy Ur amazing! Id love to hear this on a Peavey wolfgang! Its an amazing song!

  • the peavey is in Eb so i couldnt use it :)

  • @satchbooggy

You mean on this song? Or just period? If "period," why not? Eb sounds pretty cool, I think. Just my opinion, maybe. Also, since I don't see that anyone has asked, I'm just as curious about your amplification/FX loop as I am about your guitar. Between that, your fingers, and your guitar's harmonic response, you *Really* sound like EvH. I own a 5150 (which I freaking love) and I don't sound that much like him. Of course, I'm not as good as you are by a damn sight, either, lol.

  • Im a 42 year old rocker, own 21 guitars..but still taking lessons?! (did it backwards...got GAS while starting out rather late)

You my friend are just SICK! as my kids would say....LOL.

I subscribed and check for new videos all of the time.

Flat out WFO...the best guitarist Ive seen anywhere and Ive seen em all....satch, wilde, VH, Rhoads, SRV, Santana, Vai, Bla Bla Bla...

Keep it up......Your playing is simply humbling!

  • damn... that was great ...I mean really

  • Nice job!

  • THE SHIT!!!!

  • Whaddaya think of that RG2610? I love mine. :) Although the stock pickup has been changed to an EMG 85.

  • very nice!

  • this is one of the best if not the best. Can anyone help me out . Ive heard the song before but cant remember too much of the word. its from VH with Roth. Went some like" little sintina ritia " something like that. help me out . Ive been drinking need some help

  • I believe your thinking of "little guitars" off the diver down album.

  • damn dude, that was badass!

  • This VH tune rocks. Niiiiiiiiice job on the guitar, sir!!

  • You're all over this bitch, brah........like herpes on a hooker!

I agree about the song...........not one of VH's best but it's a Dave-era tune so it still has that trademark attitude and fun.

  • thanks bro. if dave sang it you can bet your royal ass i will like it lol

  • True, brah.....Roth Van Halen is the only VH that ever mattered to the real fans like us......so keep those tasty Dave-era tunes comin!

As a side note, do you have a VH tribute band? You should seriously think about it..........your guitar-playing is BAD ASS and I would have trouble telling whether it was you or Eddie if I closed my eyes and just listened.........why not email Ed himself and ask if you can come onstage on the next tour and jam with him in front of 20,000 people !!!!

  • one of my fav van halen tunes.....fkn well done! U rok!

  • Hey thanks a lot John.

  • great plying man!! i hope you're making a living in the music industry somwhere!!!!100/100 tom

  • im in the operation of heavy equipment industry man haha My playing would never make me enough to live on :)

  • then i am definitley screwed!!..lol..man you are a monster player...love your stuff!!! tom

  • Wait you cant write a 3 chord song and repeat the same words in it over and over again?

This is 2009, you can make a living on music and not be a musician.

    its sad.

    great playing though

  • I saw your 5150 video too. It's fun seeing how Eddie Van Halen may have played these songs. Years ago I use to sit down and try and learn them all by ear... back in the 1980s. Since then... I just jam them best I can by memory. I want to focus my time on writing rather than copying these days. But it's still super fun jamming Van Halen music... I can't stop that. Spend 50% of your time trying to write music too is my advice... Then post your originals here. It's hard work... but worth it.

  • im more of a copycat...thats what i enjoy doing. I finally managed to figure out tweaking the type 2 trans trem man. Makes that guitar a lot funner to use. Sometimes you get your stein sounding exactly like Ed...its sweet.

  • I'll never be able to play like Ed... Nor will he me. It's much easier just being yourself. Ed had to work extremely hard spending 100% of his guitar time creating... not copying. So for me and you I suggest we try spending 50% creating if we must play Ed's music. Regarding the trans trem... Type 2? What's that. What type do I have? My intonation is out now... Peekamoose Guitars in New York forgot to tighten down the locking screw for my intonation. My hand pushed the intonation out.

  • Your guitar has a type 2. It sounded out of tune in one of those vids. Like you said, the intonation probably got messed up. I dont trust guitar shops...none of them touch any of my guitars. Yeah copying is for uncreative clowns like myself but again...i prefer playing Ed's music. Its a great way to improve your playing, thats the way i look at it.

  • OK I SUCK...I just wenbt through all your vids and satchboogie...YOU DO OWN IT I am a fuckin retard, excuse my ignorance. If I had 3 thumbs they would be sticking UP LOL MY BAD...Great job!!!

  • good stuff...got my sub. 5 stars

  • not bad bro...but Kent Carlevi is a smidge better. I mean, it's a pleasure watching u but maybe a head stock cam and not REAL background music would help/ I see u have chops, but clean up the act and own it...u probably could.

  • take it or leave it man. :)

  • There is no way that Kent Carlevi is better. He improvises to much, his technique is off.

  • Kent does newer VH better than anyone and he has THE PERFECT tone for it. My hat is off to that dude. My stronger areas are the older shit :) Hes got the skills out the ass. I think hes a professional. Not much of a talker either lol. I really dig his Van Hagar stuff. For older VH i shop around YouTube. :) Rock on Kent and conjering...you fucking rock too bro

  • All that's missing is the shaved bald head. Silly boy!

  • no no none of that here haha

  • Joe - you ever gonna fess up?

  • That was pretty good. Nice job...

  • Nice job!!!!

  • fuck yeah.... u do have nice legs satchbooooooggggyyyy ;-)

  • Wait. This is too much like Satriani. Show your face, please. I'm an old school girl and know all about the hairy legs of italian men. I'm married to a dutch/german man and still can't spray a can of NAIR on him without 2 bottles of tequila. : ) in advance. Technique is wonderful. Thanks so much.

  • Ok...I feel like an idiot. I was looking for a nice drop dead legs video since the original had vanished. I knew this reeked of Satriani when I saw the hands and heard the music. I'm lucky to still recognize the master. Ugh....at least I didn't say it was some lounge singer. Puke.

  • nice whammy, pretty tasty. pisses me off my guitar doesnt have one (PRS Mira). Oh well

  • Eddie didn't use a tremolo on this song. He played a 58 Flying V.

  • really? how did he get that effect, just some epic string bending?

  • my 58 V was in the shop that day

  • haha. you wish.
