A few things i'd sort of like to clear up for beginners:

Foam is fine for cruising, but if you're trying to take a progressive experience, you're going to want grip tape. Like most other things in wakeskating though, it's user preference. Neither is really "better" than the other.

You don't need to drill holes in your shoes. Yes, I suppose it would let the water escape quickly, but there really isn't much of a point in draining water out of shoes that are wet anyway, in my opinion. (...)

To continue: A lot of people (myself included) prefer the weight of wet shoes.

I want to say it's debatable that wakeskating is harder than wakeboarding, but that's hardly true in most cases, and is irrelevant at best. The fact of the matter is, they're different, entirely. That being said, being able to wakeboard and skateboard does not magically give you the ability to wakeskate.

Finally, this video is 5 years old. While i'm glad it's had so many views and likely turned a lot of heads (...)

@ohiostateh8r Trust me dude foam is for beginners. Thats how i learned but now since i got grip tape i have improved so much! there is like no tricks on foam that are easy to do.

@BigRedFreedomXango It depends what u call very well is. I learned to wakeboard when i was 10 and got up my second try without seeing anyone else do it. Now im what i considered very well. I clear the wake do spins and grabs hopefully flips this year. And i just got a wakeskate 2 years ago and i got up right away..

you def could use a skimboard. my buddy did that a couple summers ago. they work fine as long as you hold edge. pop shuvits and big spins are a little harder since the skim isnt as heavy and has a tendency to catch the wind get squirrel-e. but for towing around they work fine!

shoes help alot, cuz theyre made for water and grip. and a good board is byerly. they make the best. any wakeskate by them

eosdude is right. shoes help keep the grip, plus the griptape wont rub against your feet, if you ride grip. byerly and oak boards are both real solid too. it all depends on how you ride too, like whether your kinda loose, or if you like that tight carve and hit the wake.

Shoes are pretty necessary if you're going to be riding a board with griptape (as opposed to eva foam), or doing tricks in general. They help with grip, impact, comfort, etc. Any skate shoe will work fine, whether or not it's made for wakeskating. As far as boards go, i recommend trying as many as you can. With so many boards out right now including bilevels, wood concaves, composite decks and compression molded boards, you really have to kind of see what works best for you.

@4092697 also for the shoes. if you have an old pair that you dont really wear, you can drill holes in the bottoms to let the water escape from the shoe so there not as heavy. this helps when you start doing varials, flips, shuvs, etc.

Wow, i never expected people to like this so much. I really appreciate all the positive comments though. Good news though, i'll most likely be posting up a similar video, filmed locally with riders in my small hometown. That doesn't necessarily mean these riders aren't good. They're professionals. However if your friends can do it, they are probably pretty good too. This was also done with wakeskate footage old and new, about a year ago. Wakeskating is progressing so fast i wouldn't expect this video to keep up even in the least bit.
