Hey!

I downloaded the demo, I don't have a joystick, but basically I should be able to use the keys. I try to use the keys which are in the settings, but the plane does not respond, I can't even move. I can only make the engines go louder.. what should I do?

Just press F2 to increase throttle and B to release the brakes. Now fly with the mouse by using the square in the middle of the screen

Till now XPlane only work with OpengL not DirectX. I can guess that for the future it will not. But who really knows it?

I have no idea what opengl is... all I know is that because of it, the demo didn't work till I downgraded the drivers for my video card!

OpenGL is the application that handle graphics in XPlane. In FSX it's DirectX in xplane Opengl

Maybe you need to downgrade your drivers but this normally don't happen except if you use beta drivers....

The Demo is really unstable.

It crashes really easily for me.

even if I click out of the window, it crashes.

my computer is top of the line it should have no problem handling X-Plane 9.

Plus it appears X-Plane never likes my controllers which is annoying.

I hope the full game when (if) I get it is better

Is the demo windows close alone or it takes too long for loading? If it takes long, you can try to come bad later, 1sts launch takes lot of time

If the demo window closes, you you make a reinstall that will correct corrupted files.

For controllers, just plug your before launching Xplane and go to joystick settings. then moves or push a button now assign a function.

The Demo doesn't close alone.

Yeah, Software always takes along time at the first start.

I know what to do if it acts odd, go back to the previous settings or reinstall...which I have done.

I know how Plug and Play works and how to assign functions in X-Plane.

The Joystick is Ignored by X-Plane and not by my other FS except for Lockon.

If I need help I'll ask but I have a good idea of how to solve the problem.

If you only stay at default aircraft on xplane, you'll be very very disapointed. Only a few of them are good. Some other available aircraft on the internet are better than default aircraft.

What's all this talk about x-plane and fsx being "Difficult"?! THEY ARE SIMULATORS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! They were made to simulate what real flying is like!

Anyway, I only have fsx, but I must say from what I've seen so far of x-plane, the scenrey actually looks very nice. However, the aircraft look HORRIBLE!!! Most of them look like cheap freeware models... So until x-plane starts taking care of that, I would happily consider getting x-plane aswell...

Happily all the aircraft aren't bad. I'm not saying all the aircraft are good, but i mean it's like in FS, you can find some masterpice (PMDG or LevelD for FS) and some really ugly and bad aircraft.

Because FS own the market, you find more aircraft for FS, but the distance between xplane an fs is not that large that some years ago. I think XPlane 10 or 11 will be at least as good as FSX and maybe FS11. Just my 2 cents...

I have both. FSX is not bad, seems easier for a beginner, and I can fly at a basic skill level using the keyboard. I haven't had X-Plane 9 long enough to judge, but the scenery is excellent. However, I am having difficulty using the keyboard for anything, and the mouse isn't much better. One feature I would LOVE (as a beginner) - "auto-pilot" that would simply give you an aerial low-altitude tour of different areas. Also - a manual.

I have to say I had a bit of a "Eureka" moment where I picked up flying XPlane 9 with a mouse, albeit still as a sub-rookie. My landings are actually random abuses of ground, plane, and building, and usually unintentional (and sadly, so are many of my takeoffs), but I still love it!

You can go in the menubar and set "autopilot flies my plane" and your plane will fly as in automatic

go buy a YOke or Joystick. if your looking for ANY semblence of Realism, you lose that the second you decide to just use a Mouse or Keyboard to fly your airplane. yes, I have FSX. ( not X-Plane) I'm sure both are good. one thing that's weird to me, is your veiw here in VId, of this "Panel" with nothing else around it, no edges, no overhead, no Window!???

What I like about x-plane is the fluid graphics, in msfs this level of graphics (specially the clouds) could crash at least the 80% , besides it seems incredible how is possible a company like laminar research can be so close to a super gigantic company like Microsoft the guys who says it is a "shit" dont have an idea what is to create a simulator like this not even in 50 yrs they could create something like this.

Helicopters are very realistic and hard to handle. It seems tha XPlane reproducts better hlei flight than FS

Yeah I tried the demo just yesterday. I've flown a real Schweizer 300C (see my profile page/ video) and found that FS9 with realism settings all high but just 3 clicks to the left (general slider) it is closest to real. Do mind that I use a twist-handle joystick and therefore I'm more focussed on cyclic response. Also, it a simulation and that's also exactly how I feel about this kind of software :)

it isn't graphics, it's how it flies, and Microsoft sim flies like crap compared to x-plane. In xplane, in a ga aircraft, in wind your plane moves around in the sky, it doesn't remain still like in M$F$.

x-plane 9 is awesome compared to cartoon-like unrealistic flight dynamics in FSX.  Micorsoft HAS to change to the type of dynamics in X-plane (blade theory) and THEN it will be a great sim, or if X-plane increases it's scenery level to near FSX it will be greater. I use X-plane 9 and I like it, I hate the way MSFS sims FEEL when flying, totaly unrealistic.

yes. the full version includes all the world. and many vids are NOT from LOWI. Many of my vids are from else where in X-Plane, and every once in a while I go into space and do orbits. Can FS do that?

You can set the detail level according to your computer specs.

I have mine almost maxed out as far as they can be in the game. Though the buildings are generic (sans addons) their placement and detail look quite realistic in a full resolution.

I just downloaded a Boston scenery pack and am happy with the detail. There are a few things I'd add but over all not too shabby.

So in answer to your question... YES there are higher textures and details.

That's if you install all the scenery. The default install which is the games+US scenery is only about 11GB and each scenery pack in about 13GB. I have all the scenery installed which is about 60GB.
