How sad that the 'happy' feelings we used to get from listening to this kind of music, from hanging out with our friends in the neighbrhood, or after school in the 'soda shop,' and finding a whole kind of happy security in our famlies seems like such a rare occurence in this jaded, cynical age we must now endure.
Just spoke with Maury (Manseau, who got me into songwriting around 1975) a few weeks ago, who's living the good life in CA's wine country, and just now, very much getting into all the internet has to offer, regarding getting some great music out, which I hope I can offer some help. Some glorious days of music, which actually have some future as I see it! Fresh, clear, & true! Just 'cause you were good yesterday, doesn't mean you're done! I wish him well!
A competing version by The Blades of Grass was released roughly the same time as this one.
Theirs is a much slower song, than this version. But both are great records.
By the way did any of you know that this group, The Sunshine Company was the first to record Jimmy Webb's "Up, Up, And Away" prior to The 5th Dimension? Forgive me if I've already mentioned that, but it's true
Takes me back to my youth, growing up in Southern California. Mary Nance and Maury Manseau were the duo that sang up front. "Back On The Street Again," "Look Here Comes The Sun," "Let's Get Together" and "On A Beautiful Day" were all favorites of mine, in '67 and '68, by the Sunshine Company.
Makes me think of the beach and my old high school gilrfriend here in Southern California. I'm so glad I moved here from Nebraska....(It was my parents decision) A whole different lifestyle and wonderful memories.
great song by them.found 45s by them once in awhile(except this one, found it in 1990 and was their 1st 45 i've found by them). also got two lps by them.thanks for posting this group.
@meee223 Wow!!!! That's quite a story - was 11 when this came out - never remember them, but happened to discover them when we tried to re-create the 60's when we became teens, in like 1973,4,5
This was 'Our Song' 1967. We met in February, had our first date in June, and married on September 30th. My husband passed away in 2008, but I still haul out my old 45 once in awhile and listen to it again. Sweet memories.
this song came out while i was in europe so i never heard it. i heard it once on an oldies station in the 70's & knew right away it had to be the sunshine company because of their sound. fortunately, i have it on cd to enjoy. thanks for posting it.
Is it at ALL possible to get this album("Happy Is The Sunshine Company) on CD? I've looked every where and I can only find it on vinyl. Their other two albums are on CD, but this is the one I want.
Dug Mark (Red) lead singer was my friend and room mate when they started this group, before then he had a band called Redeye and before that the Grains of Sand and before that the Bugs. Red has been a friend of mine for years even though I have lost contact with him. I do know he is in the L.A. area
@afift1ford - Red lives about a mile from me (nowhere near LA) and is a good friend. He was not the lead vocalist of The Sunshine Company, but sang background and played guitar. He still plays in church. I read your post to him and he was surprised and wonders who you are.
I haven't heard this song since 1967 until tonight. WOW what a flood of emotions and memories of my youth! The music was so very tremendous back in the sixties.
Hi Savemefromme06, Gotta ask, how come you never heard any of your mother's music ? Great harmonies and something for them to take great personal pride. Thanks ~
@savemefromme06 May Nance is your mom? I work for an oldies station and have wondered what she is up to? What does she do now? I always loved their song "A Year of Jaine Time"
Got to get "Blue May' up there again. It's my favorite song of theirs. It was up on YouTube, now it's down.

The Sunshine Company performed at my high school in 1968, Fairfax High in Los Angeles. Those were the good old days!

This was also recorded by The Blades of Grass around the same time. Their version is a much slower song, not sure which one is the original, though.
Both are great records. It's possible, that, there could have been a version predating these two.
BTW The Sunshine Company were the first to record "Up, Up, And Away" later a hit for The 5th Dimension.
