This has probably been mentioned already, but I'm not sifting through 8 pages :) the river you're thinking of isn't Styx, Styx is the river Charon ferries new souls across in ancient mythology...the river you're thinking of is Lethe, the waters of forgetfulness :)
Dap, the only time mythology mentions the effects of drinking from the river Styx is the time Zeus(what a bastard, really) forced another god to drink from it, resulting in voice loss for nine years. The river of memory loss is Lethe.
I have to disagree when you say that maxed wisdom is a necessity.
They beauty of Torment is the freedom that the game allows. I am currently replaying it with a character with int 16 and charisma 18 start. I believe that the str was at 12, dex 12, con 10 and wis 10. But I am still progressing well enough as I can talk my way past things I can't fight :).

@TheSupream2010 You buy it on gog.com (good old games). There is also an official mod guide there that you should follow, it fixes some bugs, allow you to change to a higher resolution, adds some quests that was not finished in time for release etc. Highly recommend. And yes, the game in general is a must play. I'm a huge gamer and the story in this game is by far the greatest ever written. It puts other games to shame really.

I think Morte is a little off on the Dustmen. That faction believes that everyone is dead, some more than others and that there is no such thing as life. In their view life means that there is no suffering to be had, but since suffering exists throughout the multiverse, then life is an illusion and that they guide others into true death. Great video.
The Styx gives you amnesia just from touching it. I've lost plenty of characters in my 22 years of playing D&D to this effect during the 2nd edition years. I've played all editions.
@viktorhat I play it from time to time with a couple of the guys once a month I think its pretty decent all things considered, Although my main D&D experience is with 3.5.

@stolpyn Windows XP Media Center Edition for some reason It works on that comp but not on my main comp which I'm at now which is the same OS, yeah makes no fucking sense!

Has this game, Baldur's gate games, Icewind Dale games, and temple of elemental evil(not so fond of this game). 5/6 not's so bad.

I'm fairly sure if you try to drink the river Styx you'll end up with an extreme case of dead, though you gotta be dead to get near it

Just as additional info: You can kill the other two zombies in the room you wake up in for bandages, with no consequences.
You should also talk to all of the zombies, you'll get xp sometimes for various things you can do with them.
