@Slicksterpat / ok. Guess I kept thinking I'd get an intelligent conversation going but then realized that was never gonna happen. :) Once a person starts with that kind of language you know they just don't have a brain that is in good working order.
From my last post we are a brotherhood ( song states it all.) not everyone was meant to drive a truck. Get on some of those trucking outfits from Utah ( you all know what I mean) 6 months and they are driving on there own. JB hunt is another one. Imported help driving down wages- Goverment/wallstreet bone us on fuel. People are damm lucky there are a few good truckers on the road with out us people would not have crap. This isn't rasist its the truth, blame big biz
Whats with all the rasist crap on here??? Yes Mexico is not regulated THAT IS SOMETHING TO BITCH ABOUT. I've got over a million miles under my belt and seen accidents that would make you think twice. And yes your towel head comment has some warrent. Its shoratge of truckers and throwing out anyone and everyone on the road. ( importing drivers) Nothing worst then rolling threw the rockies and giving driving tips to a scared newbee ( Over CB)who does not know how to shift.
The true believers graduated from CB to ham radio operators. The rest became technically challenged button pushing mobile phone tossers. No CB radio any more, just rip-off mobile phone plans and boredom.
@TeddyboyNo1 Yu are lucky. Here is Australia, it is dead. You can hear Indonesians on 27MHz, but that is about it. In its heyday in 1977, the channels were packed on CB-ers, many of them decent. Christmas 1977 destroyed it because every kid got a radio and swamped the channels with rubbish. Up until a few years ago there was UHF channel activity, but that is dead now. There was one repeater but the govt closed down after a carrier dropper got murdered (literally) by someone who tracked him down.
In Australia CB is not dead, there are plenty of people out there, and when the skip is up you can go to all corners of the world,UHF you have to rely on repeater stations, with Sideband you dont,i will never use UHF,it holds no appeal to me,more and more people are coming back to 27 MHZ
@TeddyboyNo1 If you like skip and 27MHz, try getting ham radio license. You can work HF and when the sunspot activity is high, the 6 metre band is quite exciting. I have found truckies can barely hold a conversation for whatever reason, when I heard them when I travelled frequently up and down the Hume. Ham radio operators however are a very interesting bunch and it opens up a whole new world. As for 27MHz, you can work 10 metre band with ham. The "wiaDOTorgDOTau" website tells all.
Love the skip and did think about going Ham,but much prefer to stay with 27 MHZ,of course, although i have 27 MHZ on my radio,it also has a lot more,i have listened in on 10 and 11 metres, they are just as bad as some that use 27 MHZ,thanks for the website i will check it out.
@TeddyboyNo1 ...whole lot more... yeah I know, I have been around. Ham is really fun. I used email with packet radio before most people even knew what a computer was. Also SSTV and if you are into Linux, check out IRLP. Software Defined Radios are brilliant, where noise can almost be eliminated especially if you live in built up areas. Cheers.. and I hope you have fun no matter what you do.
@TeddyboyNo1 You might be interested to know the corrupt government of the day required licenses for CB up until around 1981 "because of TVI". They closed the licensing section down after they found they were losing money on the administration costs and for no other reason. This was clear evidence the government was running an extortion racket. I got my fees back, shall we say, via alternative means over the years - ten fold. The fees, plus a fine.
I thank this song came out around 1976 or 77 not sure, but this is when everybody on the road used CB radios, there were no cell phones or computers, or text messages.
this just in: convoys now deemed illegal due to dumb ass tree huggers and lawmakers who say diesel smoke hurts their eyes; same group of dumbasses complaining that their tea and coffee never made it to starbux.
i had a tower and beam with roter 1,000 watt linear couldnt sleep at nite so i wood talk to the trucks on i-70 all nite with the xtra juice i had a huge range seems dumb now but fun then 35 yrs. ago
In 1980 when I was 15 I slipped behind the counter at a campground and switched the CB they were using as a loud speaker to a quiet channel and maximum squelch. From our car CB we had complete control of the loud speaker in a the pinball / game pavilion across from out camp site. Oblivious in the office, we announced that there was a gas leak, all games had to be abandoned and everyone could report to the office for a refund. We hid the magnetic antenna in the trunk and others got questioned.
Your damn right I'm a trucker.Have been for 13 years. We had a convoy coming out of K-town one night. That was bad as hell.We had guys going the other way saying they wanted to turn around and join us because it looked so good.
@lostonpath you sound like you were a good trucker, did you ever haul swinging meat. i am told that that is the meanest thing to haul. unless you want to be a walking bomb
@rosemarie443 : No I never hauled swinging meat ... and I am oh so glad ... I know enough to say that outside liquid is one of the most difficult things to haul .. Liquids have the baffles in the tank but they still slosh .. However I feel for the cattle haulers because there is no decisions as to what way they may move or if one gets down in the trailer. However even with all the work .. I loved the different people I met along the way ... That was the greatest joy ..
In the late '70s, early '80s, my family used to do a lot of driving for vacations in a van that was custom built from what should have been an ambulance. So much so that we met the same truckers over and over. Before the days of the radar detector and such, CBs were a very valuable tool. Plus, it kept whoever was driving awake. We had it set up so it cut in on the radio.
Breaker 1-9 for a smokey check... :)
Granted, I loved this movie when I was a kid too. :)
That big white Pete in the middle of the Slide show is identical to the one I drove all over North America for over 3 years. Just one Truck of many that I steered but, I made a lot of cash and had a lotta fun in that Large Car!
this just reminds me of everything my father, grandpa and like so many other highway brothers have put in our lives with out this men and women we wouldn't have what we have today in our homes thanks for every thing, and a merry Christmas to any and all that can't be home with there families this holiday season, this is Bigfoot Jr. saying bye bye
This sure brings back a lot of good memories. I drove truck for 30+ years and remember when CB was the only thing that kept us company on the long hauls. "Breaker! Breaker Good Buddy." "We gone"
u Have that right from one Trucker to another I miss my truck big time. The best time of my life is when i was driving the best fealing in the world is being on the road.
Did anyone else have a Father who was absolutely and embarassingly in love with CB's in the mid 70's? Christmas break "75 and my sister Jane and I were sitting in our Bonneville on the way with Mom and Dad to Florida for vacation, We were constantly rulling our eyes as Daddy kept clicking that mike and pretentiously speaking in to it, "Breaker, breaker, good buddy!"
@jeff62rey oh, boy, yeah, he drove a green Olds and was 'The Green Hornet', and he got my older brother hooked too --what an embarrassment to a barely-teenage girl ! C.W.McCall and Tom T Hall on the 8-track, all the time .....
@jeff62rey Yah buddy- I admitt it I even wond up getting my class A- and went all over the USA and would never trade it for anything, Rolling threw the hills from coast to coast nothing like. Big 10-4 keep trucking
american trucks ,,,,,, pure shit,,the reason they call them clasic is becose nothing has been done to them for years,, years and years behind European trucks.
@benny1473 For Tired Iron they are still getting it done, and looking pretty good too. You should have stayed in school at least long enough to learn how to spell, just sayin~
This classic hit the airwaves when CB radios were spreading their frequencies across America to become a forerunner of cellphones in big rigs and automobiles alike! If I recall, "Smokey and the Bandit" was rolling on the movie screens about the same time!
@Titan52berg You are correct. I was a teenager when this came out and Smokey and the Bandit was one of my favorite movies. This song has always been one of my favorites.
A stroke took me out of a truck after 10 years of flatbedding...Lord I do miss it! The memories of showing my family the 48 are endless. If I could, I would go again tomorrow! GOD Bless the drivers of today and all that they do!
COWBOY UP LANDSTAR DAMN ALL THESE WANNABEE LANDSTAR DRIVERS OUT (SWIFT WERNER) HEY LANDSTAR ANOTHER 500 MILES ANOTHER RED CENT TOWARDS YOUR DOLLLAR SMOKEY BEAR AT WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE WHAT MILE MARKER AND WATCHOUT FOR THE CHICKEN HAULERS
Wo hooooo CB radios OMG this is ssssssssooooooooo old. I was a kid and this was the back then version of a funny song. The "bears" were the cops!! All the other jibberish were peoples "handles" or on air names.
Had this on 45 when I was a 6 year old kid and memorized every word of it. Didn't understand most of it, but I loved it. I even remember the B-side of the 45 was a song called "Long Lonesome Road."
This was my favorite song when I was 11-12 yrs old. After discovering The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix I totally forgot about it. Over thanksgiving weekend I was in Houston and was driving with my brother and he had it on his I-Pod! What a surprise! Brought back many memories!!
I had this turned all the way up and my mom came in my room and said. "Who are you talking to girl?! You better not be playin' on the CB!" I looked at her wide eyed. "Mom, it's a song." She said oh and left..... O.o

@jeff62rey oh, boy, yeah, he drove a green Olds and was 'The Green Hornet', and he got my older brother hooked too --what an embarrassment to a barely-teenage girl ! C.W.McCall and Tom T Hall on the 8-track, all the time .....

@jeff62rey My dad still does that on occasion. Probably doesn't help that my dad's also a trucker. He loves this song.

A trailer of a heavy truck overturned in the storm in Denmark.
The accident happened on the freeway southbound track on the Vejle Bridge and exit 61.
But hardly had road assistance reached the accident before a new strong gust grab the trailer and blew it back on track.
And accompanied by a pair of shielding heavy trucks on the rest of the bridge, the driver could continue his journey!
I heard it on the radio and they then played CW McCalls Convoy as a tribute ;-)

Looks like the 'mighty convoy crossing the USA' took a wrong turn. At 0.56 it shows a Northern Territory, Australia plated road train.
Hope they took in Ayers Rock on their travels :-)

This classic hit the airwaves when CB radios were spreading their frequencies across America to become a forerunner of cellphones in big rigs and automobiles alike! If I recall, "Smokey and the Bandit" was rolling on the movie screens about the same time!
Titan52berg 1 month ago
@Titan52berg You are correct. I was a teenager when this came out and Smokey and the Bandit was one of my favorite movies. This song has always been one of my favorites.

Wo hooooo CB radios OMG this is ssssssssooooooooo old. I was a kid and this was the back then version of a funny song. The "bears" were the cops!! All the other jibberish were peoples "handles" or on air names.
killerbacteria1 2 months ago
Had this on 45 when I was a 6 year old kid and memorized every word of it. Didn't understand most of it, but I loved it. I even remember the B-side of the 45 was a song called "Long Lonesome Road."
robwallace5 2 months ago
This was my favorite song when I was 11-12 yrs old. After discovering The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix I totally forgot about it. Over thanksgiving weekend I was in Houston and was driving with my brother and he had it on his I-Pod! What a surprise! Brought back many memories!!
wilx218x 2 months ago
I had this turned all the way up and my mom came in my room and said. "Who are you talking to girl?! You better not be playin' on the CB!" I looked at her wide eyed. "Mom, it's a song." She said oh and left..... O.o
