  • What a disgusting shit.

  • This needs a R1 NTSC release, pronto!

  • When I saw this about twenty years ago I thought this was a director worth checking out and have since see pretty much all of his major films---the good and the interesting failures. Deeply saddened by his death. There are very few directors worthy to be called visionaries-----certainly NONE today---but Ken Russell is amongst that rare breed who thought more of cinema than mere entertainment. Very sad.

  • Uh, is this on R1 DVD? Seriously, more tripped out than the other rock operas of that era.

  • I saw this when I was 12 years old at the premier in Sydney. Why we were allowed in is a mystery.

I remember seeing a big penis.

  • Just watching this failed Ruscell Attempt gives me a phallus!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song?

  • Love you 4ever, sweet Roger!

  • I bleedin' love this movie! The giant phallus was brilliant! And then Nell!

  • @sapphosnape Ivor the Engine Driver swells 10 feet!

  • Dissapointed.

  • I want to see this to see Anulka from Vampyres but it looks a bit Rocky Horror for my taste... shivers... I cant STAND that film : I

  • I saw this film when it came out....I was a kid.....always wondered who the fuck else saw it.....not many people have heard of it............ahahhahahah

  • Looks like must see

  • Is that Thor at 0:48? I heard he is in this.

  • Watching Daltrey play classical piano while acting is more then worth the price of admission.

  • @JimiLaMort .... well it's Rick Wakeman playing piano while Roger Daltrey is miming...

  • @martinharnevie- Actually i think your incorrect. Wakeman did do the lscore but Daltrey played all the live parts we see him perform. Those were live takes. Ken Russell had stated that many times.

  • @JimiLaMort Played as in acting. And this is from the soundtrack. The fact is that Roger Daltrey cannot play piano like that. It's all Wakeman's style of playing on the soundtrack.

  • @martinharnevie : I am not denying the OST is Wakeman. During the live performance 20 minuntes into the film is the specific scene i am talking about. Where Liszt/aDaltrey is making fun of Wagner's song. Liszt/Daltrey keeps riffing on a Wagner melody before cutting back to Chopsticks. That is not Wakeman, that is Daltry playing the piano live during that scene!

  • Fuck i love this movie and practically all of Ken Russell's musicals are masterpieces. One of the greatest living directors for certain.

When the fuck is Criterion or anybody gonna start releasing his masterpieces?

  • This is an awesome film. Ken Russell is a mad genius! Why is it not available in US???

  • This looks great!

    Ringo as the Pope?! LOL!!!

  • @MontyPython246: First Ringo's a monk, then a Saint, then Ringo's the Pope. Sadly i don't remember seeing him playing drums anywhere on film though.

  • I have to see this movie! Tommy is one of my favorite movies of all time and this looks as trippy if not trippier than tommy, so i am definitely buying this haha

  • I looked this up on Amazon. Apparently, the DVD release of this title was withdrawn. I resent having a "good taste" police stopping me from enjoying LISZTOMANIA in may living room.

  • @frankenmart It has not been withdrawn, still available although I like the idea of the good taste police getting at it ;)

  • lol, fenchurch pwned a piano :P

  • thank you

  • russel is a madman un leashed.Sometimes brilliant. But liszt not involved

  • what the fuck does this have to do with Franz Liszt in the slightest?? utter bollocks

  • @jegspillerpiano like your coment to this video?

  • It's tells the story of Franz Liszt in a non-straightforward way. And why should it? The plain old biopic had been done to death by this point by everyone (including Russell). I personally am tired of the lack of creativity and originality in most films today, especially biopics. If I wanted a cut-and-dried, straightforward telling of a person's life, I'd READ their biography: it's a film, take advantage of what your chosen medium has to offer, for Christ's sake.

  • This was @jegspillerpiano, btw... seems a little confusing when I read it now, but I am most definitely pro-LISZTOMANIA.

  • @SeanPhillipMabrey Well, it's a little bit TOO 'non-straightforward'. Real talent can find a balance between imagination and convention.

  • What the hell was that?!?

Ken Russell's movies never really seemed...sober...

    Always entertaining though!

  • is there a piano in this movie?

  • POPE RING FTW

  • I want to see this movie, hope the dvd is also available in Italy

  • there wasn't half a lot of money knocking around the film industry back in the day.

  • i havent seen this movie yet but i have seen Tommy and it was awesome!

  • great Ken Russell .... director of memorable movies... =)

  • Ringo Starr as the Pope!

  • wHAT THE :D:S:D:A:D:DDDDDD

  • The proper English transcription of Liszt Ferenc is Franz Liszt, not Franz Liszts as it appears in the details.

  • This movie is fucking nuts. It is like "Tommy" meets Fellini's Casanova...

    RIP Ken Russell

  • Mr Russell is very much alive

  • @DigitalClassics yeah He jsut received honorary life achievemet and was hostying the Devils in Montreal, and I missed it...

  • @DigitalClassics Sadly, he isn't anymore.

  • @DigitalClassics

    not now!

  • @DigitalClassics You spoke too soon! RIP Mr Russell

  • Franz Liszt isn't such a freak like this. he is a romantic composer...

  • What's the quality of the DVD like? A bit hefty in price...so I'd like to know if it's worth buying or just well..who knows. Is it remastered? I know Ken gives a commentary.

Now The Music Lovers, there's a film I'd gladly dish out a day's wage on owning on DVD...

  • an average letterboxed transfer. could be better, but it's okay. remastered? i don't think so...

i've seen it for 10 pounds, an acceptable price.

  • uhm, actually, that was a response to piterdevries questions on the second page...

  • is the song in this trailer an acutal liszt song/

  • Wow this look like a good movie!

  • vamos ver se, enfim, este filme sai no Brasil

  • Duvido.

  • wow! roger rocks! rusell did it again

i didnt know bout the existence of this movie, i was looking for new single from phoenix with the same name

  • same here, but this looks awesome!

  • This looks utterly mental.

I've been wanting to see this for years!!!

  • I. must. see. this.

  • aah!! this is great news indeed. I have not seen this movie in over 10 years when they had it as part of a musical fest on Mpix.

  • This is possibly the greatest thing that has happened since the invention of bread.

  • wtf?

  • I've been wanting to see this movie since 1978!

  • yes!!!

  • YES!! The masterpiece to end all masterpieces is coming to DVD!! :D Fingers crossed we get some Special Features!! :D

  • The film itself is special enough for me! Yippee!
