  • Stay away from them Gene

  • is that Gabe from 'Welcome Back Kotter'

  • 6:45 ill be working with this guy in 10 years, if we're both still alive. eerie!

  • this was a year before his death right?

  • I can't believe John will be gone for 30 friggin' years this year. His comedy is timeless! R.I.P., John.

  • Spies like us :(. To bad he wasn't in it.

  • It was short, but man, was it sweet! There's no one who isn't a fan of the stunning John Belushi! (And I mean it when I say 'stunning'. That moment in 'The Blues Brothers' where he takes off his sunglasses made me swoon so hard, I felt like I'd been kicked by a horse!)

'I may be gone, but Rock and Roll lives on'

  • It's just uncanny to see this 30 years later - I may have seen it live - I'm not clear but, what strikes me is how good John Belushi looks. He seems healthy, that's was my first reaction. It's just incredible that he died in March of '82. I tried to find out exactly what was the date of this interview in 1981 but, I can't find that information... I agree - I'd love to have them on the show these days - and I bet they are holding great parties up n heaven.

  • Dan Aykroyd "Yea ill be working with this guy in 10 years...if he's still alive" Dam

  • @Nakberrycrunch I know right? sad..

  • @Nakberrycrunch and now we're stuck with his brother...

  • @stupidamgeit His brother doesn't deserve that. Jim Belushi isn't responsible for John's absence and putting him down doesn't prove you're a great fan of John Belushi.

  • @Nakberrycrunch Didn't he say "If we're still alive"?

  • @MsJCBurke Yea good call..after watching it again i realized how funny John was at about 1:32.

  • Whats John digging for in his jacket pocket?

  • @carmine7972 Checking the coke sack.

  • LOL they forgot one of te main band members :)

  • Damn it's so sad, less than a year later John was gone...

Is the whole 'creative ebergy' thing a euphamism for depression, do you think?

  • @Bunyonz eNergy!

  • i heard dan aykroyd has aspergers, is this true?

  • @somotastic21 yes, and tourettes as well

  • @thisuserdoesntmatter I dont really see him exhibiting either of these disorders, can you?

  • @somotastic21 In the interviews that i've seen with him he does often get some little tics, so yeah. I don't know about aspergers, I have the diagnosis myself and I think it's difficult to tell if people have it or not.

  • @thisuserdoesntmatter I guess it's on a spectrum

  • can anyone guess john belushis ethnicity??

  • @MeroShima91 I think he is Albanian from his Dad's side.

  • I like how Aykroyd says Belushi breaking up matches is "creative" when it's actually DESTRUCTIVE. Which is very prescient...

  • i hate that Dan Aykroyd let himself go... i mean he just doesn't look like Elwood anymore

  • @pg13superstar Yeah I know what you mean

  • @pg13superstar Because he is older he may way more but he is not fat and he is still looking sliming

  • WOAH.......CHECK OUT THE MOUSTACHEBEARD N GLASSES COMBO.....WTF.

  • Omg the power of gene shallit.

  • I like to think that both belushi and chris farley are throwing the most kickass parties in heaven together

  • @nativewizard I hope I get to go!

  • CHECK OUT THE PRESENTERS HAIR N SHT WTF.HAHAHA....NO SERIUSLY BELLUSHI LIVES SALUTE.

  • I dont believe in God or anything, but this makes me wish there is a heaven, just so these two guys can meet again some day!

  • "If were both still alive" fuck you Dan Aykroyd, you knew he was going to die didn't you?!

  • @handsomitodavid

Yup, he knew. A doctor told the producers of the Blues Brothers (Dan Ayrkoyd prob included) that if John Belushi wouldn't stop using drugs, he wouldn't last more than... what was it, a year? Dan Aykroyd has balls, this shows he cared about Belushi since even here he was trying to tell him to stop using drugs. But Belushi was a stubborn fuck and died, and it was his own fault.

  • I wish it was...

John Belushi And Dan Aykroyd On The Today Show "2011"

  • @pablolara125 ...that might be the scariest thing ever. You know, considering the state of John nowadays. haha.

  • @switchbuckle5th lol, true, but if he was living and not a corpse. It'd be great

  • DAN AYKROYD is high on coke in this video...

  • @LeGermQC Absolutely !

  • kindred spirits

  • amazing how unassuming belushi was, happy days before hollywood actors were "perfect" looking and aykroyd did terrible crap, then again, could forgive the man anything for Blues Brothers alone!

  • that tv hosts hair/mustache...

  • "Your hair looks like a anthill on fire!"

    LOL

  • Dan was talking about Spies Like Us in 1981? Crazy.

  • Love u John.

  • There was no better comic duo, God i miss them together..What could have been ??? SIGH

  • he`s dead

  • @amoola007

    Yes, he is.

  • Gene Shalit is a fucking annoying interviewer. He asks too many questions before they can give a full, detailed answer.

  • Anyone remember the 'skit' that was actually shot on film in B/W on SNL which has Belushi visiting the graves of all the other SNL members who've all died? Belushi is the only one left alive as a very old man walking through the cemetery. It's quite moving and eerily opposite reality, since he was the first to go. Maybe somebody can post it on YT.

  • Dan was so attractive back then.. RIP John

  • Shame we never got to see that Fiddler on the roof.

  • i thought belushi was going to say two fried chickens and a coke for his last meal.

  • omg...spys ..like us....

  • the interviewer looks like he has a cats tail under his nose

  • This makes me cry!!!!!

  • haha! i got that album :) "Expressway" is my fave song on that whole album :) i melt when danny sings <3

  • John Belushi was just a regular, nice and fun guy, who got involved in things that maybe he shouldn't have, but who is to judge here. I loved his body of work and he left too soon, so thanks for the laughs Mr Belushi.

  • OMG! AAAAAAAAAAH!

Right out of the gate it's a fucking mustache assault!

    *raises fists in the air*

DAAAAAAAAAMN YOU Gene Shalit! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!

  • @noirkitten There was no intention of ill-health to Jim there, psycho. But the truth remains, Jim is as funny as a fucking broken leg. The first person John would be knocking out would be Jim for starring in "According To Jim". If it weren't for his brother, he would disappear like a turd in a bowl. John was off-the-chain hysterical, Jim isn't even mildly amusing...

  • John and Dan were very different characters from each other. they were good because they complemented each other.

  • John is gone, and Jim remains. God wanted the funny one. Damn I miss this man. Belushi was human, flawed like all of us, by my God he was brilliant. And his last meal would have been four fried chickens, and a Coke. My favorite actor.

  • John looks out of place here, as if he didn't want to be there. He seems to keep fumbling with something in his pocket. Dan is a nice guy, and by the way he keeps glancing at John, you can tell that he is concerned about his best buddy. It would be nice if he gave John the chance to talk more. I think this was 3 or 4 months before he died.

  • @maxpowers518 Yeah, I agree. Clearly Dan is trying to help John with the problem of being spotted everywhere and fame, telling him it's how you deal with it.

  • @maxpowers518 Yes I think Dan new he was going down a bad road and was trying to help him....even in this video

  • At 5:40 it looks like John puts something into his mouth and dan give a cheeky smile when talking about how the contacts made his eyes look dilated. They did seem like really close friends, they were great together.

  • How sad to watch Belushi, what's up with his frigging pocket??? What's he figeting for in there? no doubt fixing for a high. RIP John Belushi, so sad to see such a talented person die so young.

  • I miss this guy... smile :-)

  • @Rixar13 me too

  • anyone else get chills when Akroyd uttered "if we're both still alive in 10 years"

  • @hmc73123 i'm not suprised, both of them were total cokeheads at this point.

  • How can you be serious when the host looks like that!

  • I love john... I only know one other person who has his amazing eyes.

  • Belushi was wonderful - didn't wanna be there for sure - don't ya love how he was rolling his eyes at the stupid questions of the host

  • It is really creepy ...

  • when he said "if we're still alive in 10 years"...I just felt freaked out and spooky and sad

  • Sad spys like us did not have john in it. Would have been better than.

  • EVERYBODY WATCH JOHN BELUSHI MOSH PIT IN A PUNK ROCK VIDEO (BAD BRAINS) - BANNED IN D.C.

  • The funny thing is; back then, John Belushi was considered fat. He's normal sized by today's standards.

  • @DeepDeepSpace and if your skinny now then your considered anorexic :(

  • thumbs up if you kind of cried when Dan says he would still be working with John in 10 years. RIP John Belushi the youth of today is forever lessor since you are gone.

  • Boy Gene Shalit really wasn't prepared for this interview. Come on man, you're interviewing John & Dan. Ask better questions please.

  • I always mix up the Belushi brothers, James and John...John, had he not died so prematurely, would've been the biggest comedic star today...He was brilliant!

  • @fishandfestival well not today so much. IF he lived he woulda been huge in the 80's but woulda been up there in age by the time even the 90's came around. He was great though.

  • (to the host) man shut up already!!

  • Hey Mr. Funky haired interviewer, we're puttin the band back together

  • Sounds like Aykroyd is alluding to "Spies Like Us," which he made later with Chevy Chase.

  • i want someone to interview the interviewer

  • WOW a lot of creepy foreshadowing in that interview huh?

  • @darklighter1 yeah good point its spooky how hes talking about Neighbours and that Belushi wakes up and has nothing to do... it is this situation which got him back onto the cocaine.....

  • @darklighter1 what do you mean by that?

  • @darklighter1 well really just two statements. the last meal thing and "if were still around in 10 years hardy har"

  • ...to bad Johnnys last meal was a speedball.........2 geniuses.......love you both, man!

  • My last meal: a heaping plate of bacon and some Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby.

    Mmmmm...

  • 6:45 Dan looks at John and says "I'll be working with this guy in ten years." Before putting his hands on John, he says "If we're both alive!" Look at John's face. Damn...

  • @maxpowers518 ...And the way the microphone makes so much noise when he says that... I know it's just Aykroyd's hand accidentally hitting the mic, but it still sort of sends a chill up your spine, y'know? Rest In Peace, John. -_-

  • @maxpowers518 Yeah, that is remarkable, isn't it?

  • Its strange how they say they will be working together in 10 years, but john died two years after this.

  • At one minute and 33 seconds you'll witness pure magic. Pure magic.

  • Comment removed

  • umm its ironic how he says if we both are still alive at 6:49

  • "Fiddler on the Roof." Belushi is greatly missed.

  • Belushi looks really upset around 3:39. Something tells me he really did not want to be there.

  • The host is a pain, nearly hostile.

  • that guy fucking odd

  • @madFlam1 you sentence odd! Learn to communicate in English!

  • @hippojuice23 do one you twat, i am english

  • @madFlam1 Well a least you spelled 'twat' right- I get the gist of what's going on! hahaha (God I'm teasing you, silly! Have a good day!)

  • "What do you want to be doing ten years from now, John Belushi?"

    Ouch. Poignant...

  • Ive seen this interview many times and it's obvious John just flat didnt give a shit about this interview and didnt want to be there hahahaha

  • the video gets weird at 6:34 when he asks what your going to be doing in 10 years

  • Why are they all laughing when john says "pineapple plate??" =S

  • The interviewer is so annoying. He asked the stupidest questions and Belushi seems a little annoyed with him.

  • Aykroyd was covering for Belushi during that interview...

  • Wow the host is terrible.

  • Listening to him talk about his last meal and what he would be doing in ten years is kinda heartbreaking. R.I.P. John.

  • haha you can tell they hated neighbors as well man that movie was awful

  • Wow! Where did thirty years go?

  • I must say that after watching this, truly Gene Shalit is a douche.

  • I guess that means Belushi was going to be in Spies Like Us! Wow.

  • @GenoPeppino Belushi was also originally going to play Bill Murray's role in "Ghostbusters".

  • @johnbohl Amaze. I don't know how I feel about that. Bill Murray is the shit in that movie, totally steals the show. Belushi would have also been brill. I can't imagine them both being in it since they both play the goof and two would crowd the formula.

  • John seems like a nice, together guy, in this interview. Ackroyd is a pain, burbling away, talking over John a lot, probably out of it, he's hyped up. Belushi is just normal. The host is a pain too, interrupting and talking too much. Not controlling the talk very well.

  • It's amazing how calm and even shy John Belushi is. He looks pretty healthy. Hard to believe less than a year later he was dead. An amazing performer.

  • @dannydontgoin237 i bet he looked like shit a tiny bit later because he did cocaine and heroin together which killed him.

  • Belushi looks pretty chilled, Aykroyd looks pretty wired to me

  • if belushi was alive today I could easily imagine him being in a martin scorsese film or a coen brothers movie I could even see him hanging around the "jackass" guys he would've been perfect for that show.

  • the way Dan looks at john when the guy asks if they're friends is so sweet! you can see brotherly love in his eyes..

  • AH! The presenter IS EQUAL TO DIEGO ABATANTUONO! If you don't believe me, just google on it. Try to search "Diego Abatantuono - ATTILA"... hahah!

  • Dan seems like a really nice guy. Do you get the feeling that when he says 'if we're still alive' he's sort of got a feeling? It seems like Dan's talking to Belushi without actually saying it. Also does anyone else think that Dan started gaining weight in response to John's death?

  • Wow when Aykroyd says their working on a movie where they are working for the department of defense I wonder if that was Spies Like Us?That movie would have been different if John Belushi would have been in it instead of Chevy Chase.

  • so honest

  • Legends!!

  • didn't know Dan normally wears glasses ... :-O

  • Wow. I didn't know Spies Like Us was written this early, as a Belushi/Aykroyd film. I loved seeing these guys again. My mom took me to see the Blues Bros. when I was 12 (my first R-rated film) and I couldn't get enough of Belushi for the next couple of years.

I hadn't thought of Gene Shallit. Jesus what a weird dude. "Hair looks like an ant farm on fire." Nice John!

  • John looked fine here people. It's amazing what people see when they know the future of what happened later on.

  • i'm with you guys this shit is creepy. but that said john is awsome and i still miss him dearly.

  • well that was just about the creepiest video i have ever seen

  • wow. what a crazy interview. very prophetic.

  • John looked and sounded great. Can't believe he was dead two months after this interview.

It's obvious these two guys liked each other.

  • I wonder if Gene Shallit was ever tested for drugs? I mean.. seriously, take a good look at this guy. Americans never questioned this guy... but take a GOOD LOOK

  • Christ, Gene Shalit is a terrible interviewer - he wouldn't shut the fuck up!

  • I wonder if Dan Akroyd is mentally retarded?

  • @TheAuntiechris What on Earth makes you think that?! Dan Aykroyd is a legend.

  • I like Dan Aykroyd! Peace.

  • Comment removed

  • At 2:18 I bet Belushi was feeling for his coke.

  • Dan: "I'll be working with this guy in ten years if he's still alive"... wow, that's a little erie. John went just two months later. RIP brave Samurai

  • @thecheesefeed He actually says "if we're both alive".

  • That hair and that mustache=Amazing!

  • I saw Caddyshack when it was originally realeased in the theaters and I thought it was great. Does that mean I have great forsight and was ahead of my time?

There is a reason the critics all panned Caddyshack. Ramis(director) decided to have Knight,Murry, chase and Dangerfield sit on a stage and address the media just before the release of the movie. They ended up mocking and making fun of the press core so the critics ended up trashing the movie.

  • Wtf, is this interviewer playing a role? He looks like a cartoon character!

  • John looks like shit.

  • @nrwo2009 Really? I thought he looked and sounded just fine...

  • @beeroosterm Yes, he looks bloated at this point.

  • @nrwo2009 He looks fine here

  • John is on a mission WITH God

  • Dan Akroyd From canada?

  • @56BUICKRiviera Yes!

  • @56BUICKRiviera, Yes he is.

  • only if he knew that 6:48 was nothing to be joking about

  • @derpdederp101

    indeed

  • I only want your tango and cash

  • @thewayside0

Peter: I haven't been this scared since I was mugged by Gene Shalit.

(Scene of Gene Shalit pointing a gun at Peter in an alley)

Gene Shalit: Don't Panic Room. I'm not going to William Hurt you. I only want your Tango and Cash. So just Pay It Forward, and we'll all be Happy Gilmore.

    Peter: What?

  • At a private SNL party (years ago) where they had a hired band, Dan Akroyd ended up taking the mic out of the singer's hand and taking over the band! He turned that party around with his singing. This was way after Belushi died, so he was solo. He can really front a band, and under different circumstances would have been a rock star. But, the world is lucky he ended up in comedy!

  • I've only been able to compare Gene Shalut,to the guy on the old doritos commercial, who bit a dorito, and chaos occurred."your hair looks like an ant farm on fire!" pretty much says it all! Neighbors introduced me to The Doors. We miss you John, thanks for showing the world how to laugh at anything! "Mrs Toronto?" ..."Tarantino!" "Ma'am!"

  • if we're both still alive....those words..... probably haunt dan aykroyd

  • "Neighbors" was a terrible movie. It really wasnt that funny at all. Why is it that comedians always want to be dramatic actors? Belushi should have done in Neighbors what he always does: been funny!!!

  • @resqfireman He was funny!

  • they're not comedians/actors, they're musicians
