@ishredu Hi, I'm pretty sure it's mid 70ies.I've checked out some his recordings from Montreux Live series that were recorded through the seventies & eighies,& he's using Pearl in the Pererson 6 (july'75) Basie Jam(july'75).His great Studio album Louie rides again (1974) he is using Pearl,Also Louie Bellson's Seven from '76.
@ishredu Louie used Gretsch up to about 1962, then switched to Rogers and was with them until about 1973. Then he briefly went with Slingerland, but by 1975 he had switched to Pearl. Round about 1979, he switched back to Slingerland. Then a couple of years later he switched to Remo drums and was with them until he passed away.
I'm guessing this was about 1977-78 for this performance.
@TheLudwigdude Not that it matters, but your 70's chronology is not quite correct. Louie moved from Rogers to Pearl to Slingerland (April of '78, Louie's recording with Sarah Vaughan, "How Long Has This Been Going On?"), then back to Pearl before his ultimate and final stay with Remo. The second move to Pearl happened, in part, as the result of a deal with Ludwig that fell through. They could not resolve Ludwig's insistence of requiring the use of Ludwig (non-Remo) heads.

Yes, this is 1975. I was sitting at a table close to the front. I was going to Berklee at the time, and Symphony Hall was just down the street as I was living on Hemingway. After the concert, I went backstage and helped Louie with his drums and took pictures and then went down to the basement cutting room to watch the show again. I will never forget this great concert. Louie was wearing a black VELVET tuxedo. Joe Harnell was playing piano. He was the musical director for the Mike Douglas show.
Honestly don't recognize him. Pearl usually had Milt Hinton, George Duvivier or, in later years, Frank Tate on bass. Thanks very much for posting so many rare clips.
This Lady Pearl was a class act. Thank you for the post.
