  • PR campaigns like this portray the alcohol industry as a viable public health partner invested in addressing public concerns. This, of course, is utter nonsense. It is designed to advance the interests of the alcohol industry pure and simple. Why don't they reveal how much of their profit comes from underage drinking, or what percentage of their overall sales can be attributed to alcohol dependent individuals. Billions. Tens of billions.

  • What a joke. If the alcohol industry was genuinely interested in reducing alcohol related harms they would be vocal advocates of tax hikes, pack warnings and advertising bans. This is the very reason they staunchly oppose (and will always oppose) these measures. They will never do anything that will actually hurt their sales.

We went through the same thing with big tobacco when they attempted to position themselves alongside concerned public health advocates.
