Some of you guys will not have been as lucky as myself, in that you never got to to witness the raw power of Rory. As great as these videos are, they don't even come close to the real thing. Many people are just discovering Rory for the first time, folks who never saw him live, and that is good as it they will learn how to 'really' play guitar, and keep his memory alive. He is worthy of that acolade more than any musician I know. Simply the best there ever was.
@GeoStratocaster I's totally with you--saw RG several times and to this day no one has come close to the almost religious high that swept the crowd; you were high for days after a Rory gig!!! He gave and gave and was always 200% REAL and HONEST and dedicated to the music, the guitar and his fans. Can you imagine ANYone who could sell 30 million records without ever having a single on the radio? That's because he was honest to God a genuine legend in his own time! And the legend will grow!
Y'know, I am so f*cking glad I was born when I was ! :) Being a teenager in the 60s meant I never missed a Rory gig ever! At least his Scottish gigs! Now wonder I told everyone when he passed away that I would "miss my fix"! He was a great re-charger of human resources. Such energy, that transmitted to all when he played. Best box-player ever man! Believe it!
Some of you guys are not so lucky as myself, you never got to witness the power of Rory! Thank f*ck for youtube! More people than ever are just discovering him, and that is good as they will learn how to 'really' play guitar and help keep his memory alive. He is worthy of thaat acolade, simply the most dedicated musician ever.
Looking at this clip you can see why Rory was one of the only traditional rockers who got respect from the punks. Genuine, honest energy delivered full throttle for the fans.
in this video he has marshalls, 79 he still had fenders (and in the beginning vox i think) i think his fender sound was better, or maybe it is just this recording...
I went to a ZZ Top show in KC in '76. Rory opened. I admit I didn't know who he was when I walked in, but I sure as hell did when he was done. ZZ Top might as well have stayed home.
i love the way how theyr all sitting quietly at the start but by the end absolutely everyones on their two feet, what a guy! the only guitarist inspires me with every song ive heard of his
that top 100 list was voted by the general public, lets face it most people don't have a fucking clue about real music, which is why that top 100 list is bullshit and hence why rory is not in it.
rory must be number one in every list about guitarists.......no man ever will paly better guitar than this guy.....Rory ur the best man......i wish could see you live...........RIP................
I feel more than any other guitarist rorys passion takes over and his fingers just go wherever he doesnt even know what hes doing so much its like another force takes him away and he just plays every note perfectly
i was a young bass player, learning my trade when i saw rory, about this time in the uk.
ten years or so later,at the academy in manchester,i was in the support band.proudest moment of my life.people don`t give enough credit to this guitar god.
He's not given enough credit alright, it's disappointing. Do you have any videos of when you were in the support band? You must have been immensely proud alright, sounds fantastic.

This song really seem's to bring out the best overall performance of both Rory and Gerry.
You really can feel the energy from the pair and this gig seem's to be more energetic than montreux. Both great versions.

Is Gerry immense or what?
phantomhelm 3 years ago 7
Yeah, we often talk about how underrated or unappreciated Rory is, but Gerry isn't given enough credit either
padraig314 3 years ago 3
I guess they come hand in hand, but im so glad they stuck with each other for so long.
Rory aside, i could watch and listen to gerry for hour's with this much energy he put's out.

Gerry is another god.
