The Construction Manager should have had a plan in place with the local fire department... they are at fault as much as the Fire Marshal who signed off on the plans. The Fire Marshal should have the power to demand working fire hydrants prior to stick framing. Water/Hydrants are installed with the site work and should of all been up and working prior to anyone authorizing the stick framing.
My question I guess is why did they not roll the tankers on the first call it seems the chief should have known right from the start that 1 hydrant would not be enough also how often did they test that hydrant all ours were tested at least once every 2 weeks as far as possible
Don't think I will ever visit America, if that is the building standard used for hotels. My life is too important to risk staying in some crappy timber and plastic structure.
@firefightercharles If you watched the bid you'd know the answer ;) - The building was only 85 - 90% complete (Still in construction) and well I guess the owners just wished they had the sprinklers installed sooner :P
@pmanson0624 Ya this was a bad situation I was one of the deputies there. At the time there was alot of arson fires in the area. This fire was so hot I was standing about 150 yards from it and it felt like it could still give ya a nice burn.
I almost could not believe what I heard, when a fireman told the interviewer about having only 1 fire hydrant. Sounds like a bunch of idiots involved with the zoning commission to approve the building of a project without critical updates and reassuring that there was indeed a governing water supply close for the sole purpose in putting out a fire! And then to say it was a hotel! Good job guy's(Zoning Commission).........NOT!!!
@service1956 This was a new motel in a area with a small shopping ceter and a bank. This motel wasnt even open yet. Improvements to the area was not done yet. You go that same spot now and it's not the same.
where is montgomery county texas?? i live in central texas (williamson county). that fire looked way to involved when the fire dept showed up, they did the best they could i think.
39325dlee - did you even watch the vid? there was 1 hydrant near the hotel which wasnt turned on when crews arrived! it take at least a minute to set up an apparatus for any sort of fire suppression. crews tried to do an interior attack, but couldnt! i dont see how they just watched the place burn down! they did a surround and drown. id like to see you willingly run into a fire that big and put it out, while crews are setting up still, there is not water. think before you speak.
I live in the next town over, in Porter, I can't believe its been a year already. This for people that don't know, was a brand new hotel under construction. Didn't even get the chance to have one person stay in it. I live 5 miles from it. 1 year and nothing is put in its place. I guess when the owner lost a $3 MILLION building then he just give up. SAD SAD SAD.

I guess he shouldn't have burned it down then. And once more, you can see how bad American firefighters are: they just watch it burn without having water...
do you have any fire training? Theres a reason for everything so shut your mouth before you start bashing how different depts. handle things. Come to North America and say that to our depts. Americans wont like it and neither would us Canadians. So fuck you bud

Prior to construction there should have been water to at least 2 fire hydrants.
Once the slab was poured there should have been water to the structure.

Why have the set-up and the ladder on the left if there is no water?
YES THEY ARE READY FOR WATER! WHERE THE HELL IS THE WATER WHEN YOU NEED IT?
ssweeps1 2 years ago
A lot of these areas (yes, even around Houston metro) have issues with water. Most VFD's have one or more tankers for this purpose.

Hrmm, maybe it should be illegal to begin construction without a functioning hydrant (except in rural areas, of course).
Maybe there should be minimum supply of nearby hydrants considering size of structure.
Maybe they should have built the pool first :)
