  • I remeber tab and it was just really bad corona got rebranded as high brite sincalir was jnown as timex 58k or motorolla spectrum tweets ar still sold here as milk duds

  • I remember being at an Airport with my Parents must've been about 1992 and they had a Huge Tab Clear Stall set up and were giving It away Free to Sample.........

  • i loved TAB wished they'd bring it back

  • A great collection of images. Brings back a lot of memories. Why is it that when Marathon became Snickers it got a lot smaller?!?!?!

  • bring back quatro drink

  • treets!bring them back!and c&a brings back memories cos i worked there and was there at the end

  • my local newsagents has a few cans of tab left he likes to keep old products on tnhe shelf he has look in magazine and a rum and rasin cornetos left to he will sell you one if you stup up £50

  • wow, treets! i had completely forgotten about them!!!

  • Oh and I forgot, Marathon has just been *renamed* Snickers and the song fits *really well* with the video (though *I* doubt I'll *ever* see these products again) and I do miss *Woolworths* (don't know about Kwik Save though, since their 'No Frills' food was *revolting*).

  • Anyway, getting back onto the subject of what I miss:

Don't know about the test card (though I have to say I *do* miss those BBC close downs)

Associated with Jif - I miss those poster and banner ads from October/November 1991 of its manufacturer - 'Lever' (they had a red snake which was either an Asian Pit-Viper or a Temple Viper, a Bengal tiger, an American alligator, a blue whale or a pig) [the pig was *cerise*, not *pure* pink]

  • (*third* comment!) TVS (Television South) wasn't included but that too ended at the end of 1992 (three things beginning with T ending at the end of 1992!) because of when Thames changed to Carlton at the beginning of 1993; this was why Catchphrase had a new look and theme since Friday September 30 1994 and the episode aired on Saturday October 24 1992 (the episode here where Tina beat Andrew) was the last TVS episode.

  • (comment continued) Opal Fruits (I like the strawberry and new blackcurrant flavours but the flavours I miss are the lemon and lime ones) [I mean the two *separate* lemon and lime flavours]; I even miss the *lollies* which were either strawberry or lemon flavour and had bits of fruit moulded on them

don't know about Thames and LWT but I *have* watched the video of LWT's last ever night on Sunday October 27 2002; Thames's demise at the end of 1992 is why TV-am was changed to GMTV

  • Actually they didnt cancel TAB i saw it a king soopers.

  • Lol at the Rous Cup.

  • @SergeLipski What about Fruitburst,Woolworths,ITV News 24,Heartbeat & Potato Potato Fritters please a 2010 version of this please :~)

  • Some of these things are still around. For instance Jif is still available in Australia, Top of the Pops is making a comeback, Golden Wonder crisps are back again, and Granada TV is still around.

  • Its strange how we love these things a lot when they are no more sad ain't it...

  • Nice bit of nostalgia!!

  • Whooohoooo, Happy eater :D I remember collecting the stickers at school.....

  • TV am hasn't gone, it's just now called GMTV- it's exactly the bloody same! I swear they even have the same couch. I used to drink Tab clear every lunchtime- great stuff.

  • aw they were the days !!!! EMER AGE 7

  • SPANGLES :D

  • Those Schwinn Orange crate and Lemon crate bicycles were the best.

  • Quatro was lovely.tasted a bit like lilt.

  • Tab Clear was cool as a gimmick, but I remember it tasting bloody awful, even for a sugar-free coke.

  • Yes, so do I, that and Fresca..an orrible grapefruity thing..the advert was everything frosting up...remember?.

  • I think I remember the advert but since I hate anything remotely grapefruit flavoured (including Lilt) I never actually tried the drink!

  • what program do you use for video editing?

  • @ 0:51

    some things are best forgotten.....

    *que angry speccy nerds*

  • wooow totally forgot about tab!! i loved that drink!! good ol times lol

  • Tab was rebranded as Diet Coke to tie in the Coke brand. Technically it's still around.

  • Not quite.

Diet Coke was the trademark caramel brown; Tab was a "Coke clear" - a transparent liquid.

    It wasn't around very long.

  • @alcockell yeah it wasn't around that long i don't think it was particularly popular. Same as mountain dew.

  • Wrong, Tab is not diet coke, same as pepsi max is not diet pepsi, they both taste slightly different.

  • Chopper bikes...fantastic and cool! Loved Spangles also one thing that's not here Bar Six! .....very well put together video, really enjoyed it...thanks!

  • It,s only when you watch something like this you realise

how the world changes around you.

    Nothing stands still.

  • everything is still its only us that change

  • nice stuff man and i did own 2 raleigh choppers and drink cresta

  • Its Frothy Man !!!!!

  • The Raleigh Chopper you show is actually a Mk 1. The Mk2 had a bend at the base of the seat stays, whereas the Mk 1 had the straight seat stays which were prone to snapping off at the lower weld.

  • Haven't seen caramac's in ages. Apparantly a company, RCapital, has bought the happy eater logo and will be opening restaurants in January 2010.

  • You can still get Golden Wonder.

  • Yeah, small cock up I spose

  • One 2 One such a better name than T mobile.

  • Happy Eater, Jif, TaB Clear, Golden Wonder - spot on!

  • What about Fresca..horrble low calorie grapefruit crush, and Nutty Bars..logs of caramel covered in peanuts...mmmmmm!

  • rumbelows! lol

  • I went in my local Sainsbury's and they are selling TREETS that you used to get in the 80's.

  • I saw them in mine too!

  • I know they taste much better than peanut m&m's

  • That was great well done.

  • I'm not sure anyone misses that paper - the European - god it was dull. Wasn't it owned by Captain Bob??

  • ooohhhh I miss my chopper!!!

  • that was a journey, nice vid!

  • Great compilation. Though may I suggest you include the old 'Brenda & Audrey - Bounty to Plenty'. lol!

Your video really bought back some great memories.

  • yes i remember the green drink quatro i sued to love it. I love the clip

  • I actually shed a tear when Concorde landed it's last flight. I remember quite a few of those things.

Anotherone to add would be Quavers. Where have they gone? Wispa would've been one but that's now back. Wait what about Wispa Gold? I LOVED that one.

  • It'a true that The Coca Cola company doesn't

make TAB Clear anymore but they still make

    regular TAB.

  • The lost all they're tab on account it was see through and now they cant remember how they made it.

  • ah! the spectrum, the first computer i ever had. I can remember the days when i would sit there staring at the screen watching the multicoloured lines go up and down for a full ten minutes only for the game to crash just at the end of loading... those were the days

  • Get a fuckin life son.

  • Happy memories indeed! I used to get Look-In every week...is there anything similar these days??? I feel sorry for kids growing up nowadays, they don't seem to have half the fun like we had when we were young...and that was in the age before computer games and the like. Must be getting old.........

  • Yes u do sound old. Too old for Look-In. Why not try Readers Wives, that sounds more your sort of magazine. PERVERT!

  • Add Woolies to that lot

  • LOL you just knocked 30 years or more off my mind, My sinclair C5 is in the shed, and my Raleigh Chopper is in the back lobby, my body is about worn out, but my mind is not, OMG am stuck in a time warp.....

    we always flew dan-air

  • top of the pops is coming back for a one off on christmas day,and the marathon bar is now called snickers...

  • does anyone else remember sharkleberry fin kool-aid?

  • no this is UK ADVERTS!

  • abc made a vid ab this with the exact same title... real talk

  • You still get golden wonder crisps I sell them

  • this is great!!! does anyone remember texan bars?

  • Fantastic.great fun to watch.I loved spangles, treets, hankey pankey snacks, opal fruits and marathon bars.I had a betamax video,(better quality than VHS),TaB clear as quite nice, and the Sinclair C5,WOW what a revelation in personal transport!.....um

  • I remember Quattro, infact I found an unopened can in a layby years ago.

It tasted like Lilt didn't it?

  • Yeah I remember Quatro well, used to drink that a lot in my childhood years :-D It did taste a lot similar to Lilt yes, made from several different fruits, wonder why it isn't made any more? It did taste good, and I very rarely touch coke as it's basically sugared water, I do have it with a nice JD and ice now and again but otherwise never. Great vid this, gets the memory jogging.

  • Well it might be due to the company going bust or something, same reason you don't see Corona anymore.

I'd also like to know what those Forrero Rochers things that had mint in them were called too. Had those as a kid too.

  • @ScrewAttackEurope Yes, what *were* those called?

  • @ScrewAttackEurope edit: they were 'Ferrero Fresco Mints'.

  • we still have pound notes up here in scotland

  • You can still get roy of rovers pineapple chewy bars!

  • @superiourcowies *Can* you?

  • my uncle used to have a SPECTRUM ZX i used to love playing on it i was able to set it up at 3 yars old i once showed my gran how to set it up.

I love Tab also bring it back

  • I cud shed a tear !its so sad to see the End of an era!! all my mems are attached!! I grew up with all these ads and I remember them so well ! oh what a shame things have to change !!WHYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very good.

  • hav'nt seen any ad's for cheery coke...

    cheers

    oh this gets 10+

  • i wish 1 pound notes still existed and u shud beable 2 get a fiver out a cash machine its really irritating that u cant!

  • Wow. Good vid. I actually had one of them Sinclair computers. It had rubber keys if I remember correctly...

  • Brilliant stuff,Concorde was the most beautiful aircraft ever made.

  • i flew on concorde once. i have the folder they give you in my room.

concorde used to fly over my house every day

shame it got grounded. : (

  • Its only when they're gone do you realise just how grand these things were. Great vid and its made me cry.

  • Good old Ken Burns!

  • Great stuff!

  • Great film. Some real classics in there. As I recall, Tab Clear didn't taste all that bad it just never caught on. Does anyone know what year it went on sale? I'm thinking maybe 1991?

  • It came out in 1993 and was discontinmued the following year. Luckily I still have a can, lol.

  • A rarity indeed!

  • Lovely vid, ty

  • OH DEAR! NOW I DO FEEL OLD lol.

  • ahh some classics

  • Aah, fond memories!

  • It's all gone!

  • Oh god... If I ever see Connex again I'll cry...

  • You couldn't of ended it with anything better. Though i think Connex South Eastern should be the 'Bad'!

  • i regret watching that. Not that it was bad but it made me feel so ancient it wa unreal. oo much nostalgia for one man to take and i cannot believe some of the wtuff you found. tab clear? that was old!

  • wonderful!

  • When I was a wee boy, the Corona man used to deliver lemonade to the door, and collect your empties. Ah, memories! However, Golden Wonder crisps still exist. Why not replace that bit with Bitza Pizza crisps?!

  • Yeh Skimble I remember the Corona man, probably not the same one as yours though...you used tio get 10p back on the bottles,we used to take the empties in,zip round the back of the shop get the bottles again and go and get another 10p for free...got caught in the end lol!Happy dayz.

  • i feel sad for todays british kids they missed all this and so much more?

  • anyone remeber sweet tobacco

  • Well, here in 'The States' the candy bar internationally

known as SNICKERS still exists. As for you, I'm sorry to

you had to see the end of THE MARATHON!

  • Er,wake up,they re-named the Marathon bar Snickers, in Great Britain, and it's on sale now.But the name "Marathon" makes more sense, since peanuts and chocolate give you energy! The name "Snickers" means nothing!Americans are daft"

  • Indeed and Opal Fruits certainly sounds better than Starburst. As soon as I saw the phrase "internationally known as Starburst" printed on the packets I though damm. Knew they were going to change the name... sigh...

  • excellent....if you remember any of these then you are officially old! ...thanks mr :)

  • I just want to thank Serge for taking me on a trip back down memory lane - absolute class - most of these clips remind me so much of my happy childhood!

  • Corona lemonade! Never stocked by supermarkets, only small independents. I wouldn't drink anything else. Haven't been able to get it for a decade, but saw some recently in a pound shop, nearly out of date! An enquiry to Britvic tells me it is stocked by Londis and Spa, but only in the South - some kind of soft drinks cartel?

  • I worked in C&A up to closing in 2001.I also remember opal fruits, made to make your mouth water! This video is a brilliant montage to items gone but def not forgotten.

  • I went to C&A last week in Prague. (They sell clothes that actually fit).

There are still going elsewhere in Europe, just the UK they pulled out of.

  • yes this is indeed true. The video contains defunct products/brands that are UK based only.

  • Loved it!

How about adding, Trust House Forte Hotels, Triumph Cars, Morris Minor, Timothy Whites (Shop)... any others?!

  • Yes in Brintain it was known as marathon whilst in the EU known as snickers whilst Masterfoods decided to brand it the same

  • So Snickers was known as Marathon at one point? Was that only in Britain?

  • Not just at one point, it was ALWAYS known as Marathon in Britain. Then some idiot changed it to Snickers just because the Americans used that name.

  • Fantastic, especially Happy Eater and Presto!

  • Fantastic..! Now i know i am old..!

  • Thankyou soo much for posting that! That jogged so many memories its unbelievable! Bring back TAB Clear!

  • The treets brand got bought, and became the peanut variant of M&M's.

I liked treets better because I seem to remember they had a thin layer of toffee round the peanut, then covered in chocolate.

  • lol wow u really did like them ! :)

  • Yes, in the '80s, M&M's were introduced to replace them.

  • Did Granada TV pop up on this clip? It's one if not the best production company for ITV and the North West region of England. The logo has changed many times through the years though if that's what you meant. Great vid.

  • Not forgetting Texan Bars, Hanky Panky snacks, pickled onion Monster Munch, Alpine soft drinks, Rupert Bear orange coloured chocolate, Space Dust, plastic toys in cereal boxes, teddy boys, grebs, mods, punks. Thank God for Golden Nuggets.

  • You can still get pickled onion monster munch, they're just smaller, or are my hands a lot bigger? Space dust ooh yeah.

  • I brought back a lot of memories. Sky Channel started in 1981 on Cable TV. Voltron was on the Children Channel about 1985 and Kylie in 1988 - that what the 80's mean to me I'm 29 now

  • Started on satellite back then, cable firms simply re-broadcast the satellite signal. It was called Satellite Television UK back then. In 1982 Murdoch bought the channel and renamed it Sky Channel.

Then in February on 1989 is switched to the newly launched SES Astra satellite and Sky launched a few other channels at the same time.

  • The 80's was the last truly great decade. Britain plummetted deeply into the realms of crapology in 1997, if you catch my drift, and brussels issuing edicts on what we can and cannot do doesn't help either! Someone build us a time machine and get us the hell away from now!

  • Actually, most of the 80s sucked. The more Thatcher got her claws in, the worse it got. Dammit, pass me the Pacers and Sky Divers!

  • Thatcher screwed up the country.

We could become a much better country if we embraced Europe, instead of listening to tabloid lies.

  • Thatcher planted the seeds, Tony Blair nurtured, grew and harvested it! The 80's were better than now, and I don't care what anybody says, I believe it to be so. At least in the 80's people still had a modicum of decency and respect, unlike now!

  • I agree wholeheartedly BHX

  • Nope. Its better now. Things have improved dramatically and the sooner we are fully incorporated into Europe the better

  • Presto supermarkets!! I used to go there when I was a kid. Tab Clear, just Coke with no colour. Used to watch TVAM and Mad Lizzy all the time. Opal fruits have never been the same since they changed them to Starburst. You'll have to add proper British manufactured HP sauce soon...

  • Tab Clear was best described as... inoffensive. If I remember, it reminded me vaguely of several drinks including Irn Bru and Coca Cola without being as good as any one of them. It's going to become to the 1990s what Quatro was to the 1980s- but Quatro wasn't that great either.

  • Excellent video! I think I must have had the last packet of 'Treets' in the world. I kept them in my deep freeze for about two years after they were replaced by the multi coloured M&Ms - but one day I gave into temptation and ate them.

    Dr Lilo

  • I still miss Treets and was very sad when they decided Marathon should be called snickers.

  • Do I remember correctly that Treets were pretty similar to peanut M&Ms now?

  • yes they were, but if memory serves me right they were alot larger nuts than the now M&Ms

  • also had a toffee version of treets in a blue packet with yellow writing on!

  • sounds amazing!

  • very nice. I don't know how you managed to remember all of those you missed out BT Cellnet and Littlewoods, not that it really matters, I'm sure hundreds of products have stopped being manufactured, do you still get Refreshers?

  • I think i tried to get a Littlewoods pic but with no luck.I think refreshers are alive and strong!:)

  • yep, refreshers are alive and kicking....i sometimes buy a pack from my local Martins newsagents.....lovehearts are still going too :p......and yes i'm officially old!!!!!!

  • TV-AM

Wasn't that the show that featured a cartoon at some point?

I remember getting up in the mornings between the ages of 4 and 6 in the 80s and watching the cartoon, typically Popeye.

  • famous for Roland rat if i remember.

  • TV AM was what came before GMTV, it was the entire breakfast ITV franchise. It was on every morning for several hours, and they did a kids programme on saturdays called the Wide Awake Club (and WAC A Day in half term weekdays).

  • Much better than GMTV too!

  • I liked it, I have never been to England or anywhere in Europe for that matter, but I have an interest in all things British. Hopefully I will get there one day.

  • Slow connection
