This is great! They're all amazing musicians, and Bill Berry is amazing, as always, in this performance. I think he was always very underrated in his musical abilities, and also as a drummer. I picked up the drums just to learn all of his parts lol!
In 1989 some friends and I traveled from Boston to Macon, GA for the last show of the Green World Tour. We made our Athens "pilgrimage" on the way back. We stopped by Wuxtry's (open) and Walter's BBQ (closed). Amazing what some fans do because of these guys. Thanks for posting these amazing clips
That wasn't the one where they played Murmur and Green in sequence, was it? Oh I think that was Atlanta...I got that on tape. Yep, my friend and I drove 20 hours straight to see Athens.
No it wasn't that one (unfortunately), it was the last official date in Macon. If you remember the scene in TourFilm where they're all hugging on stage at the end of a show, that's the one.
fucking awesome

What's with this half dead crowd? Had REM just not hit in Germany at all at this time? German crowds are usually great.

I am a R.E.M. fanatic, and I have to admit that this has always been my least favorite song by them. Souped-up white boy funk never suited them.

@infernus44 it's supposed to be ironic and not taken to seriously, like various other REM tracks Shiney Happy People?

@infernus44 "White Boy Funk"?? I totally disagree. I think this is REM through and through and I love this song.

I've often wondered what the unsuspecting Germans thought of REM after Stipe's 'interesting' performance at this show..... LOL

My second favorite R.E.M. song. Disco rock, not unlike what the Stones dabbled in.

The guitar is amazing, sound like a lot of instruments and is only one guitar player.

Yeah, it's a 12-string. Looks like the old Roger McGuinn signature Rickenbacker 340/12, I know Peter owns one.

Great! Thanks for the info :)
