Bill Hicks was kinda funny but very cool and totaly vital and missed. However, he had so little material, he did that crucifix joke in EVERY show and he did pat himself on the back a lot for being subversive. I think Doug is far funnier. As far as Carlin goes, some is ok but some is dull as dogshit. I heard Complaints and Grievances today, how rubbish was that? I lasted 30 mins and turned it off. His routines can be funny (guys named Todd etc) but up with Hicks and Stanhope? Never in an aeon

He doesn't hate it. Indeed, he loves it. If he didn't want to be compared to Hicks, he wouldn't be associated with Sacred Cow Productions ( a production company Bill started ).

Any comic who can be categorized as 'edgy' ( not a word I or Carlin liked ) liked Hicks, and if they say otherwise, they're lying.

Exactly. I think people misinterpret "influence" with "ripping off". I'm sure Stanhope is influenced by him, but he certainly doesn't try to copy him. Hicks always had a positive spin on his message, where Stanhope is exactly the opposite.

If you listen to each of their catalogs in chronological order Hicks goes from nihilistic to optimistic, while Stanhope started out some what optimistic and just got more and more nihilistic.
