I agree. Why the HELL would I want to go to a casino to play digital poker. I have been playing live, brick and mortar poker in casino's since the day I turned 21 (12 years ago), and I will be PISSED if the casinos decide to change over to digital poker. I love the chips, the cards, the dealers, and, most importantly, I love the tells I pick up from watching others handle their cards and their chips. IF AIN'T BROKE, DON'T TRY TO FIX IT!!
Leave it to a stash of computer morons to come up with a plan like this. They've been slowly trying to integrate computer play into all the games for years now, but this goes too far. If all poker rooms eventually convert, I'll give up poker. I agree totally with MeanGene, why fly to Vegas?
I guess this machines allow low rewarding poker cames like low limits and sitandgoes to be profitable for the casino, so it opens casino playing for more players. Of course there's nothing compared to real cards, chips and dealers, but if I go to Vegas I'd rather play 0,5/1 NL in one of those than 2/4 in a real table.
Well, when you consider that in 2005 the Excalibur's poker room had grown to well over 25 tables (most of which were low stakes) and is now reduced to usually no more than three active tables with these poker machines, my guess is that they made a poor decision. Unfortunately, in this economy, it might be difficult for them to reverse such a mistake.
My recommendation is to boycott this stupidity, forcing them and anyone else who gets a similar idea to stay true to the spirit of poker.
In fact I just read that since 2 weeks ago there are no electronic poker tables anymore in the excalibur casino. As I said this had a reason if it was to allow players to play lower limits. Apparently they kept the same game structures, so it was pointless because everyone prefers to play live pure casino poker... but I still wish they had those in the casino of my city so I could play poker inside the casino without putting my wage at stake
Stu Ungar is rolling over in his grave. What a sac-relig to live play.
I really, really hope this stays at the lower limits and doesn't proliferate to every game. I want to play cards with cards, real chips and dealers. I don't mind tipping dealers. All of that is what playing live is all about. If that's not your thing, I'm sorry stick to online poker.
I've never played any online/video poker, and I'm 26. Been playing since i turned of age. Just a giant video game.
glad it failed

That is good news indeed. I had not heard that.
But you should know, there are still plenty of places to play very low stakes poker, at a real table with real cards, in Las Vegas.
Perhaps I will see you at one sometime.

Ridiculous! If I wanted to play poker with machines, I'd stay home and play online, not fly out to fucking Vegas to do it!
