  • Great video!

  • Police, DEA agents, FBI agents lie. They get rich off the illegal imprisonment of US citizens. They have stress-free easy jobs. And they do ZERO service to society, imprisoning people for speech and drug choice.

By contrast, these vastly underpaid climate researchers risk their lives, improving our knowledge so we can make the right choices that will save our economic future and improve quality of life for everyone.

  • Death spiral my ass.

  • ROFL only 10% more than the lowest ever recorded and yet we know there have been periods when there was NO ICE AT ALL. I mean for the love of god you people are dense if you buy into the hysteria. The average global temp is 14.2C and we know that when we arent in periods of glaciation (which we still are) that the average temp runs about 22.0C.

  • For those that the Earth has changed many times before you are correct. But usually, in the past these changes happened over a period of millions of years. Global warming has happened over only decades. The strongest effects happening in this decade. Global Warming is a natural thing. But human activity was quickened it.

  • @alinasofya Period of millions of years? Are you really that damn stupid? I would like to direct your attention to the period starting in 1645 until 1715. If it takes millions of years, then how the hell do you explain the Maunder Minimum? You cant because you're trying to blow smoke up everyones ass!

For the climate to swing one way or the other only takes a few dozen years. What takes time is for glaciers to grow and for them to melt, but it doesnt take anywhere near millions of years

  • so what did it look like in the mid 1930's when it was warmer then it is now?

Where did the polar bears go 500 years ago when it was warmer for centuries then it is now?

  • Where did you get your evidence that it was warmer globally during those two periods then it is now?

  • Lowest sea ice ever... Since 1979

    Dave.

  • So...... What's the big deal? You are howling at the moon. The Earth has changed many times over the last 4 billion years. We just weren't around to see it. There is nothing we can do to cause it and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Archeologists are finding artifacts where the ice has receded. The Earth may be tilting more. The sun may be in a stronger phase. Who knows? All we can do is watch and adapt to the Earth's changes.

  • " There is nothing we can do to cause it"

Are you sure? Nothing? if we were to set off all the nuclear bombs in the world at this instant, nothing would happen?? "and there is nothing we can do to stop it."

Well that really has to do with the answer to the 1st question -- if we ARE doing something to cause it than we CAN do something to stop it

  • Haven't you seen the data on all the warming periods before now? Some higher? How did the Polar Bears get thru it then, huh?

We don't have that much power and too many don't have a clue on the size and power of the Earth.

  • 1. Yes, is has been warm before, But the current warmth is unsurpassed in the last 1000 years at least .

AND the CO2 levels are WAY up past any time in the last 600,000 years

We are performing an unwise experiment on THE ONLY PLACE WE CAN LIVE with all this extra CO2

    2. Polar bears are not the issue. They're only one species. What biologists are saying is that a MASS extinction is happening.

    3. You didn't answer my question re: nuclear bombs. -- why?

  • Didn't answer the nuke question cause it was dumb. Radiation more dangerous than temperature, unless you're standing where the nuke went off then it wouldn't matter.

  • Really? Ever hear of nuclear winter? Look it up.

We humans have the ability to change the Earth's atmosphere in a day. Which kind of destroys your argument that we are not powerful enough as a species to change the environment.

According to the US Geological Survey Humans emit as much CO2 as 7000 additional volcanos

We 6.7 billion humans DO have the power to change the environment and that's exactly what most scientists in the world are saying we are doing

  • 2008 Sea Ice Ends Year at Same Level as 1979

  • Arctic ice record low 2007.

    Antarctic ice record high 2007.

Antarctica, is an entire contintent that contains about 90% of all ice and snow in the cryosphere.

What is not reported is more important than what is reported.

If perception is limited then the whole picture cannot be seen.

  • Growing ice in Antarctica was absolutely predictable as consequence of global warming. But even in this case it is not significant. And next thing - it is sea ice. But in total Antarctic ice sheet is losing mass.

Research of University of Colorado at Boulder shows that "the total mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet is in significant decline".

About that check video "NASA: Antarctic Ice Sheet In Total Losing Mass"

  • I have already viewed the suggested video and it is said that the different techniques have not given a clear result one way or another. This is a 4-5 minute interview!

I own a book first released in 2007 from Nasa called "Our Changing Planet" with almost 350 pages with extensive scientific data and there is an extensive section devoted to the cryosphere along with advanced satellite data.Antartica is not receding.

But if Antarctica were receding this would still equal zero proof of AGW.

  • No difference how much minutes interview is, but is says about research and data. Check description of that video to read about research. NASA participated in that research.

    >> Antartica is not receding.

According to that research (and another research too - see next my comment), total mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet is in decline. In another words - yes, in some places ice grows, but in some it melts. And in total - mass balance is in decline.

  • Here is from another NASA research:

    01.23.2008

"The team found that the net loss of ice mass from Antarctica increased from 112 (plus or minus 91) gigatonnes a year in 1996 to 196 (plus or minus 92) gigatonnes a year in 2006.

...These new results are about 20 percent higher over a comparable time frame than those of a NASA study of Antarctic mass balance last March that used data from the NASA/German Aerospace Center Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment."

  • Again we end up in a quagmire of different scientists from the same scientific body coming to different conclusions. Might this have something to do with the fact that more is known about the moon than Antarctica. And you are forgetting my comment that it does not even make any difference either way, this is no proof one way or the other that anthropogenic CO2 is causing any receding or advancing of ice on this planet.

  • There is no different conclusions. Ice which grows in Antarctica is sea ice. But this is not all ice in Antarctica.

To know mass balance of ice in Antarctica you need to consider how much ice grows and how much melts. If difference is positive, that means Antarctica in whole is gaining ice. But this difference is negative. That means in total Antarctica is losing ice.

  • >> no proof one way or the other that anthropogenic CO2 is causing any receding or advancing of ice

Until now it was not very clear. But recent news says:

"... study indicates that humans have indeed contributed to warming in both regions. ...Today's study, according to the researchers, suggests for the first time that there's a discernable human influence on both the Arctic and Antarctica." (BBC News, 30 October 2008)
