  • the explicit version appears on the cassette version of "the art of story telling" album

  • unknown classic....thats all i can say

  • i sparkle

  • The beat is just SICK!

  • @ThatsSomeSHHH yes....Large Professor (Extra P) produced it.

  • yeyeyeye large proffffffff hard as FUCK boys.

  • that shit is dope man

  • this shit is dope man

  • great fucking song

  • Dope

  • forgot about this one, Large professor on the track whooooooooooooooooooooaa

  • Also sad that Will Smith aka Fresh Prince didn't put a verse on this...It would've been ill to hear Will rhyme with Slick Rick on a Large Pro beat...He would've shut up even more critics...I believe Will would've killed it.

  • Good lord, I can't get enough of this shit, the beat is too ill and Slick Rick's flow is like butter

  • Mad dope

  • 'Even the sun is like, 'that kid over there, brilliant.'

    GOD I miss Slick Rick.

  • Great.

  • I'm not feeling this.

  • @bugstrut You're not feeling your balls neither as you are speaking shit on the Ruler!

  • @bugstrut RFLMAO!!! You're hilarious homie...If you wasn't feel this then you wouldn't have stepped up in the building just to catch an ill vibe up off it...Shit is bananas...Slick Rick needs more work to get in with Large Pro because their hot heated catalog remains unfinished...They could do a couple more bangers together...This one ranks #1 !!!

  • This was originally on some of the Art of Storytelling tapes. I lost that old one, and now when I buy it it's not on there.

  • @ Debutante24 wut about the late GURU from Gangstarr? he had that monotone style too.

  • @ACuriousStagbeetle In the Gangstarr family, check for Bahamadia, she's an exceptionnal female MC with that same monotone flow.

  • Slick Rick will always be in my top 10. joint is incredible. i see you Large Pro!

  • 'even the sun be like that kid over ther brilliant'

  • it has a place in my heart ...

  • Slick is the only mf who can create fire while rapping in monotone.

  • @Debutante24 The ONLY? How could you and 7 other people ever even use the word monotone without thinking Guru?

  • @spin1200s

We all are mourning Guru these days, Spin, but Slick was the better rapper in my opinion.

  • @Debutante24 My last comment was inspired by the word only. Before or after his death, the word monotone would remind me more of Guru than Slick Rick. As for "better", we can talk for days without resolution. While no one has Slick Rick when it comes to stories, I'd argue overall Guru's better. He's got a wider catalogue, larger vocabulary and greater overall impact (he was essentially East Coast hip hop embodied).

  • @spin1200s

You're giving Guru way too much credit.

  • @Debutante24 dude you can never give the God enough credit yo, he needs them props kid, he was too slept on.

  • @spin1200s I disagree.

  • @Debutante24 dont forget about Guru too though.

  • @GreenT619

Sorry man. May Guru rest in peace, but I like Slick's music better.

  • @Debutante24 im guessing youve never heard of guru brah.... tisk tisk

  • @ShouldaTapp3d

I don't care for Guru..may he rest in peace. Read down the pages and you will see others trying to pull me into some debate about who was the better rapper. I agree that Guru has a place in hip-hop, but he was never in my radar. That's all I have to say on that.

  • @Debutante24 Pretty much agree except Rakim too

  • @Hieroglyphics4Life

I don't consider Rakim's style to be monotone, but he IS among the best MCs of all time.

  • @Debutante24 hmm gotta disagree there. Rakim's probably the most monotone i've heard besides like Diddy or somethin. And Now that i think of it Slick rick's not really that monotone. For one, dude sings alot in his raps and also does lots of voices in different pitches and shit like that all the time. His voice is soft though but w/e

  • BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER. lol no lie this soundtrack was amazing.

  • @actSHAUN I agree, this soundtrack was so damn great, will smith with dru hill & kool mo dee, dr. dre & eminem, faith evans, mc lyte, enrique iglesias and the ruler, slick rick, great soundtrack, I agree it was amazing

    -Rosa

  • oldschool!

  • I agree with that :)

    SLICK THE RULEEEEER!

  • swagger has to be the most rediculous word ever invented... sorry

  • and i dont care what you think....sorry

  • and 'rediculous' is also kind of ridiculous... sorry

  • This 12'' is too damn rare, been lookin' for it for years.

  • Produced by The Large Professor

  • true dat. i can tell that percussion from anywhere. same as on Tribe's 'Oh My God' beat

  • never bought the soundtrack coz i thought it would suck just like the movie but maybe i was wrong if this kinda music was in there.lol

  • i love this song. i have it on the sound track CD too.

  • somebody send me this mp3

  • Dammm, thats like the fatest beat ever broa

  • He doesn't have a British accent.

  • All of this is subjective... but I'd say he's got a slight british accent, and it's normal, seeing as he left England when he was 11 years old.

As for the song... how could I have missed it? Thanks for uploading it.

  • "dismantle all vandal who can not hold a candle near.. i outglitter the chandelier"

  • one of my favorites by slick!

  • i have loved this song for years, i can never get tired of it. quality.

  • i may be wrong

    but my assumption was....

i still had the tape deck in my car so i bought this cassette

    my friend bought the cd

the tape had this and another track

i assumed slick rick was trying to be old skool or something and put the bonus tracks on cassette instead of cd

    eh??

  • oh

because it is on "the art of story telling" album

    on cassette

it was awesome when i was eating mdma back then

  • my CD has this track.

  • The Art of Storytelling album

    hmm

    good to know, thanks

even wiki doesn't mention this track

when it first dropped it wasn't on the cd.

still have not been able to find info about this

  • The art of story telling doesn't have this track, if thats what you were saying

it's not on behind bars or great adventures of slick rick either cos i've gt all of those nt sure bwt therulers back though.. i'm gettin it sometime soon hopefully

  • but

    my cassette does

    i don't know why

i just happened to dig it up yesterday,..strange

I have everything the album list in the same order

but I got 26 instead of 24 tracks

Side B track 2 "Fresh" (after Frozen)

Side B track 7 "I Sparkle" (after Unify)

  • oh lol kool

i guess the cassette is better then lol

lol and thts the only place you can find em?

lol all of slick ricks albums came out on cassettes first didnt they?

lol i would have only been like 9 or 10 when the art of story tellin' came out so i defo dnt remember lol

  • yeah i got to coexist in the multi format age

before MP3 i'd rock a discman in one pocket and a cassette player in the other

    haha,

i don't know why i bought the cassette

    probably cheaper

my friend bought it on CD the same week but when he heard this joint he's like what the ..?

if you ever come across why they did this

    let me know

  • ahh right kool yeah i hear u lol

yeah if i ever find out why i'll tell u lol :)

  • i had this on the art of story telling album u sure cause it was towards the end of the album.yo have u ever seen him in concert i had a good time

  • you got the CD then?

Prehaps it's because I brought it off itunes =/

I majorly want to see him in concert, most off his concerts are in USA and i'm from the UK lol so not really had a chance... also i'm only 16 so I would have missed all the UK ones (if he done any, i'm not sure lol)

  • oh dude i had the most fun he pulled out a suitcase filled with jewelry and jus talked his shit in my opinion he started that big bling shit muthafuckas do now.yea i bought it in 99 good album.i saw him when i was 16 too so i dont see why u cant see him if he comes to the uk,i wanna do a show out there

  • Yeah if he did a show here I would deffo see it, but I mean a) I haven't really been listening to him for long and b) as far as I know he hasn't done a show here recently as far as I know

Lol sounds good :) can't wait for his new album either lol.... hopefully it's good

  • nah he rarely does shows now for whatever reason but when he does its deffinately worth the wait i dont think hes gonna drop anymore albums the adventures of slick rick ismy favorite

  • Yeah... I heard that he's half way through a new album called ferocious google it... it's meant to be out 2010 or 2011 sometime I think. And yeah the adventures was my fav to but the rulers back was pretty good
