With Audi u can say every car above A3 has Torsent 4WD with VW it is hard,it is sure every Golf,Jetta has Haldex but with the Passats it dependes wich Model Year,u have some with HAldex and some with Torsent on this cars u have to look how the engine is fitted in!

@WoZIMoo True, it's VW labelling Vs Audi's. However, the "real" quattro (with three diffs) is only for cars with longitudinally installed engines (i.e. only last but one passat's for VW). An Audi A3 quattro has actually the haldex system like this Golf 4Motion.

@SuperJohnSB The Quattro system never had 3 diffs since the 80s and has 2 if you take the sport rear end on S/RS models. They mostly used Torsen center with open front and rear, using ABS sensors to monitor individual wheel spin and applying brakes accordingly. VW/Audi calls this "amazing" technology Electronic Differential Lock.

@WoZIMoo not quite. it IS actually a different system. but VW/audi mixes them. like all golfs, A3´s, etc. have 4motion while all cars with longitudinally mounted engines have quattro.

@WoZIMoo yes, and that makes the difference. ;) this and the rear-diff-lock on older audis. hillclimbing at its finest.^^ feels insane until you reach the top and start thinking that you have to get DOWN again too... :S :D
